I did not read the whole thread, just the initial question...

We like BOTH, for different reasons, I like the value of Universal, you get an entire week, both parks, unlimited for 109.00....I mean really, you cant beat it....my kids love the fact that its not princess filled, they are just so sick of that....but they love Disney for pin trading, they find that to be ALOT of fun.
I love all the thrill rides at Universal.....my husband likes that the crowds seem to be smaller (at Univeral) when we go. I like the food options, cheescake factory counter service, Starbucks in the park? Come on, can I hear an Amen!? lol

We always stay at a Disney resort, Universal resorts do NOT have food courts, this is something my family needs, my kids are snackers and sometimes Im just not hungry when they are, so they can grab a burger and I can just get a drink and we can head back to our room or to the food court tables, I can grab a bite later when I AM hungry, cant do that in a Universal hotel, you all have to be hungry at the same time, its all restaurants. You also have to PAY FOR PARKING at a Universal resort, this urks me to no end, you have no idea.

Now do not let anyone discourage you tho, Universals Islands of Adventure is beautiful and fun visually, I ABSOLUTLY love it, last year we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge suites and went to Universal all week, this year we stayed at All Star MUsic and went to Disney parks all week.

GO! I think you will really like it!

Whenever I find myself wondering why Disney is doing this or doing that and it's obviously something Disney shouldn't have done, I go to Universal to remind myself there is much worse out there :D.

We were thinking of spending a couple of days at Universal back in March during our 10 day WDW vacation, but changed our minds a month or so before we even left for the trip. We all decided we didn't want it to cut into any of our Disney days. It was only our third trip and we still felt like we had plenty to see and do at WDW.

Sad thing is, we had already bought one 2 park, 7 day pass and now I am still stuck with it. The travel agent told us they were going to be going up in price when we booked our trip months earlier, so I had my brother buy one while he had the money. Felt bad that we made him buy his before changing our minds about buying ours and going, so I bought it off of him and took the loss myself. Have been trying to sell it on classified sites in my city, but to no avail. Starting to wonder if it would be worth buying a few more and actually going to US in 2011 when we head back to WDW.

Yes Universal is indeed an excellent park and should be used as the bench mark for the standards Disney must try and achieve, though sadly character meet n greets aside they havent quite had much success lately.

Nah, while Disney's classic dark rides are simply amazing, the use of technology and the uniqueness of Spiderman makes it standout as simply the best dark ride experience I have ever been on.

I know I probably stand alone in this, but I'd take Peter Pan over Spiderman any day of the week. Spiderman's technology is cool, but 3D doesn't do much for me. It's like motion simulators in that respect. I can't suspend disbelief enough to buy into it.

Nah, you aren't alone. I'm sure plenty of people feel the same way, and they are most assuredly entitled to it. I just hope they have actually been on the attraction before forming an opinion of it (I know you have).

Been on it many times. Odd as it sounds, though 3D doesn't do much for me, the ride is still great fun. I'm boring. I like Carousel of Progress, TTA, classic dark rides.

You're joking right? I mean come on! Charging for express passes? Although given that nobody is over there most of the time it's nice and you usually can walk right on.

I mean come on, building the two best themed attractions in the past 15 years! What's the deal with that?

Do they charge, from my experience their resort guests get if free, and besides if its not needed no one will actually be paying, will they? But then you are talking out of your hoop arent you.

I am going next winter to Universal and Disney to check out the new Harry Potter Park. I have never been to Uni, but I have been to Disney 3 times. I am 16 and I still LOVE disney, especially the parks that are aimed at what I would call "teenage-to-adults". (Hollywood Studios/Epcot) I am looking forward to trying both, but in my mind, I don't think that I would enjoy Universal as much as I do the creativity of Disney.

My family payed for the express pass (3 to be exact) during August and thought it was extremely worth it. It knocked off an extra day of the trip so we could enjoy more Ft Wilderness.

It's a shame so many people have this idea about Universal and won't go because of it. I think many look at it as a Six Flags. I skipped it for many years myself. Now don't get me wrong, Disney is my first love, and is always our reason to vacation, but Universal is WELL worth a couple nights. To me, Universal more than Disney needs to be stayed on-site to get the most out of it. Loews, which operates the Universal Resorts, knows how to treat their guests. And the Express option is invaluable.

2 things about this.

1. There was a free option similar to FP at WDW. Disney sued them to stop it.

2. All Universal resort guests still get it for free.
