The official word from Disney insiders is that an announcement went out yesterday confirming that a “newly designed” Tomorrowland Skyway building was on the way. When the facility reopens in November they promise an “improved view” of Space Mountain for everyone

I saw that. Curious as to what that is suppose to mean... Maybe it will be turned into an observation deck of sorts, or maybe a counter service restaurant that everyone wanted in the first place...

I think they just mean that rather than a large 2-story building between much of Tomorrowland and SM, you'll have a 1-story building whose footprint is half the size of the old building... Picture it, if you're over near Buzz, CoP and the old Galaxy Palace theater, the skyway building kinda obsures the lower part of the mountain...

Just a guess, though.

(Of course we won't get into the fact that there's also a 2-story TTA track and butt-ugly Stitch stage in the way, too...)

Or perhaps they'll be re-landscaping the area behind the station, making it more park-like with a nice view of SM.

A seating area around the lines of quick service or this below comes to mind...

In this economy, is Disney really spending money to improve the aesthetics of a small part of Tomorrowland? Is a slightly better view going to make Space Mountain...more popular? It's hard to believe that's the primary view.

I suspect some other use. A sit-down restaurant would be nice. Not sure if that can be accomplished by November.

Maybe they are going in with the expectation that when the inevitable Space Mountain delay is announced (at least, when this hopefully is announced) they will delay this project as well?

I think a little ice cream shop or mini QSR is more likely, though. I bet it has some use, though.

Man I hope it's not delayed, we planned our November trip around it's 'projected' re-open sate.

For the sake of your trip I hope it is open. But if for some reason it is delayed, I would only remain optimistic that it is delayed in order to do more work to it and make it BETTER. So for SM's sake I hope it is delayed. No offense though, I hope you have a great trip! :)

None taken. I agree, I want a stellar refurb to the attraction, when we were their last October, I could not believe how far they let it go. If it's not open, it's not the end of the world for us. Their is still plenty more to do. I would just love to see what they have done to it while we are their.

Interesting. Most likely it will be an observation deck of sorts but the restaurant idea seems more probable. I would hope they use the original "Timekeeper Restaurant Show" idea. That would be loads of fun and would bring back the robot without changing anything else.

Into? Did I miss that part? I think it's just an improved view of the outside. A sit down restaurant would be nice. They should make it look like one of the Jetson's buidlings and make a rotating restaurant at the top so you can see the whole park. :zipit: Sorry, that's a little overboard on the armchair imagineering. :)

A second-story seating area with dining in that location would be ... you'll forgive this ... stellar. This side of the park needs a more substantial dining option. Cosmic Ray's is fine but its setup is awkward. Noodle Station is inconsistent. And The Plaza can't handle crowds. The equivalent of something like Liberty Tree Tavern here would be boffo.
