OK. I can help out a lot with some inside info, I have a quite few of friends that work in maintenance at WDW.

The term “WDW maintenance” is way too generic and covers too much ground. There are many types of maintenance and many different maintenance depts. Like Reedy Creek, transportation like boats, ferries, trains, monorails, etc,, water park and resort maintenance, golf course maintenance, Downtown Disney maintenance and park maintenance.

Then park maintenance is broken up into different depts. Also like the paint shop, carpenter shop, support and facilities(works in the kitchens and air conditioning) and then there is attractions maintenance that works on the rides and then there also separate maintenance depts. That just work on the parades.

So you should make the distinction of which maintenance depts. are doing a bad job, not just all of them. So do very well and have good management and keep everything in good shape, then they are bad managers that just look at the bottom line and hoping for that next promotion.

Hey there! Will be sending you a PM in the near future!

Just catching up here...and a slightly different opinion.

I think people wanting you to start a full-on business plan with this are being a BIT premature.

Start a blog. Put up an email address for contributions. Make some posts. See how it goes. Then build from there.

It makes me think of a Madonna quote from long ago. It was early 90's, and Madonna was criticizing (without mentioning her name) Paula Abdul in TV Guide. She said, "For your first tour, you should just get up and stand there and sing." This was referring to Adbul's first show, which was a Madonna-scale spectacle. Now, one could write a very long article about the slight hypocrisy of that statement, and everything around it - but it's obviously stuck with me for 20 years or I wouldn't have remembered it now. I think about it quite often, because, in spite of the motivations and source, it's a very valid point.

Set up a Wordpress blog. Set up an email. Make some posts. Don't put the cart before the horse. It's good to be prepared, and you don't want to jump in foolishly - but it seems like setting up advertising and business plans and such is just premature.

Just my two cents. ;)

Ok. be glad to help out.

For instance, if you want to bring up some problems at Splash Mountain. it would have to be directed at MK Attractions West Maintenance. MK is divided up in 3 attractions maintenance depts: West, Central, and East.

The West side takes takes care of Splash Mountain, Big Thunder, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Tom Sawyer Island, Country Bear, Tiki Birds, Aladdin's Carpets, Jungle Cruise, Hall of Presidents, Peter Pan and Small World.

Have you all decided on the website name? Like I said, I have SaveWDW available still... You are more than welcome to use it.

we're going to be sticking with fixthemagic.com for the time being. We have some great stuff in the works and have been working many late hours getting everything going!

No one asked for a full on business and advertising plan :)

But to think that it'll get some attention outside of the online Disney fan community without some advertising or media notification is silly.

Yeah, no need for a business plan, since there's no business in play.

But a plan of action is necessary, and a divisive way to spread the word is key. No budget for buying Google ads yet, but once we establish the ground rules, get the site running, and show that we're serious and professional, perhaps some donations will help the cause.

Easy and cheap way to do it.
#1- Use social media- if you can buy targeted FB ads, better- if not, it's ok. Make twitter work for you. Add as much social media connectivity to your site as possible (if using Wordpress, use Facebook or Disqus to manage your commenting; make sure you set it up for easy sharing, etc).

Be smart about spreading links. An example, I wrote a blog post about drinking beer in Puerto Rico and mentioned a few bars. I sent out two tweets with correctly picked hashtags 12 hours apart- I also posted the link in the Facebook fan pages for bars that were mentioned. In 24 hours, having spent $0 and maybe 10 minutes total of my time, that one post received over 3000 hits, and I've received an email from a well known travel blog asking me to license the content.

The point is, that because I was smart about spreading the link; I only spread it to places where it would be beneficial AND RELEVANT to all parties involved; I was able to maximize the traffic and thus my message's reach.

When you post something, don't do a bulk posting of it across the web. That's spam, and that's annoying. Pick a few targets, a few apropos hashtags, and move on. If in 12 hours it hasn't been read as much as you'd like, delete the tweet and send it again with new hashtags, and maybe an @mention to a well-known tweep you'd like to read it.

#2- Learn how to draft a press release (there are rules, I'll give you the basics via PM if you're interested). Send out press releases of everything. Send them everywhere- EVERYWHERE. This won't ensure that they'll be used, but it won't hurt when you suddenly find yourself mentioned (yay! free advertising!)

And the added bonus. Since it will appear in the press as an article (that's how press releases work) and not advertising, your article becomes factual evidence- which is just kinda cool.

True, but it needs to actually be something before you promote it. ;)

It would be kind of like promoting yourself as a rock star before you record an album, or even a song.

Otherwise, it will go the way of the previous attempts. Content is key, and the point of advertising is to bring people to your content. But if you have no content to begin with, all the eyes in the world won't matter.

I see your point and agree with it. But once content is made, will they promote it at random, or will there be a plan. A plan needs to be in place and ready to execute once the content is there.

Wow, thanks for the info, Rob. I need to learn more about Twitter and hash tags, apparently.

Also, I'd love some info on a proper press release. Please PM me at your convenience.

I admire what you are doing and I think you are doing it for the right reasons. I remember when I was much less knowledgeable about Disney and WDW and I started reading Al Lutz and Micechat during the fix Disneyland days. I tuned in all the time for his "declining by degrees" updates and they did make an impact. It isn't just big things but also all those little things that add up to the decline of the overall experience and I think that is what Al did a great job of pointing out. I also think he did a good job of giving credit where it was due- when Matt Ouimet stepped in and started making positive changes those were documented too. Positive credit given can make an impact too. I also understand how some people can say this will never have an impact but you don't know if you don't try. Nothing big ever happened without a starting point and if you beleive in what you are doing and it matters to you, then I think you can be successful in many ways. I for one wish you all the luck in the world and I will support you in your journey. I do really think that pointing out positive changes as well as negative ones is vital.

How is the site coming?? Any Idea when it will be up

Coming along nicely. Obtained free hosting from my best friend (who is also my IT guy and hosting provider). Installed wordpress on the server. Installed phpBB. And tonight I installed a CMS for the static pages.

Started skinning the blog and will work on the rest this week while others setup social media, gather contributors, and start contemplating the mission.

Hi Brucie,

Tom will be able to give more detail on when the site will be up after he gets through that shortlist he posted!

We spent the weekend mapping out the layout of the maintenance tracking section, and we've also started compiling the various topics for the next couple blog entries. So we're definitely making progress!

Launch strategy is also on the list as an urgent pending action item.

Thanks for the continued support everyone!
