Water pipe break behind Splash

Heck, I'm still trying to figure out why water was dripping in over the logs on the lift to the big drop the other day. It hadn't rained that day and no water part of the ride is up there.
I was wondering the same thing. I rode splash last Thursday, then again Sunday and a bunch of times Monday and it was dripping all 3 days. My guess is that there is a flume right above that spot that needs a little patchwork during the next refurb.

That is the odd thing, I don't think there should be water in that area except for a fire sprinkler system since it is well above any area where water would be delivered from unless there is some reason for a gravity assist by pumping water up there. I was on it on Tuesday. I don't really know the plumbing but it seemed like a very weird place for water to be leaking from.

Drew with the constant finger on the PULSE of WDW.

I don't believe anyone else's posts contain more actual NEWS than yours. Pound for pound, yours is full of constant info. Many of the other folks around here post rumors, or what MIGHT be... Constantly, you give us good, solid, accurate info. That's not to diminish what our "insiders" post... Their info is just of a different nature and style. You're always sharing changes and info that quickly is confirmed. The "first reporter on the scene", as it were.

The effort is much appreciated.
Indeed it is.

I thought that Splashed skipped its Jan. 2012 minor refurb because Big Thunder got its massive refurb. Since Big Thunder is up and running, I would figure that Splash will get a massive months long refurb.

How long has Splash been going without a good refurb? Since January 2011?

It's gotten to the point that Phil can't just keep closing one ride down a year. Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Splash, Peter Pan's Flight, and Space Mountain are all in pretty bad shape, and need extensive work

To my memory, its been like that for all the many many many years I have been going on it, I mean my memory could be hazy... I thought it was done purposley to make it like a creepy, drippy, wet, cold and gross cave?

There is a sprinkler system that waters the grass on top of the mountain.

I don't believe that it opened today. It was definitely closed around parade time, and one of Engineers I spoke to was not optimistic about it opening today. I guess we'll have to see tomorrow. Unless there is someone out there posting live from Night of Joy?

Longer than that. The only substantial change during the 2011 refurbished was the installation of the lap bars. Having ridden it right before and right after the refurbishment (I was living in Orlando for quite some time while waiting for my new home to close so I had a lot of time to waste there), almost no broken elements were corrected. The only repair work I noticed was right before you go back inside for the Riverboat scene. They repaired a broken part of the rock work beside the small waterfall. Nothing else seemed to be fixed. Still needed a top to bottom repaint and broken or partial movement figures were still as they were.

As of this morning its not running and theres no water running through either. They do have a street show as a replacement.

I really hope this is a minor problem and is fixed soon! At the end of October I'm taking my best friend to Disney who has never been, and all she wants to do is ride Splash!

They really need to strip the theme and associated infrastructure down to the structure's skeleton. Then rebuild it with a theme and exterior that is appropriate for the location and a modern Disney theme park.

It never really fit in the current location. The theme is all wrong for modern audiences. Certainly few under thirty even know the origin story. And it is impossible to maintain.

Splash Mountain just is not worth the trouble anymore. Not sure it ever was. Close it and reimagine it already.

The ability to enjoy an attraction is in no way tied to your knowledge of the attraction's origins. If it were, the ride wouldn't be as popular as it is. As it stands, the ride is incredibly popular to this day, there are few attractions at WDW that even come up to par with it IMO (in fully working state), and it continues to draw in guests of all ages (including kids who love the characters).

I'm not against something new provided it's inherently and completely superior to what was there. But there have been way too many "Under New Managements" or "Imagination 2.0's" for me to blindly jump on a gut and replace bandwagon. Perhaps if something was built on the scale of WRE or better we'd have something. But as it stands, Splash in 100% working condition still feels awesome and relevant. And if something new were built, it would be best if it were an addition and not a replacement.

It is popular becaust of the ride system not the story. Keep the ride system and give it a great story and it will be just as popular if not moreso.

And while they are at it they can fill it with modern tech that is actually maintainable.

A great story for modern audiences will also move merchandise so the attraction can actually finance its own upkeep. See POTC.
