Oh no - is this what's coming next?

Pretty sure the slideshows will be on all park icons. Maybe for DHS it will be on the ToT, but probably not.

If they do have projections on ToT, I doubt families would be on there. I surely hope they do put em up and do WDS projections nightly and have shows. Oh. My God. I would show up every night.

I never thought I'd see the day where I would rather see Pepto-Castle.

Perhaps they could have spent that research money more wisely by trying to figure out that people don't want the castle to be messed with.

Sad.

At DHS it would be on the BAH

I'll be the odd ball here.

I LIKED it. I think it was pretty awesome. I was hoping for more for WDW but I think this technology is amazing. Keep in mind the videos we have seen are tests. I am sure those photos will be way better when this actually launches. The potential here is large.

Here's the thing that concerns me:

At night, in the MK, will this slide show of photos be a constant thing with that horrible music playing? The greatest part about the Magic Kingdom at night is the ambiance and atmosphere that comes from the castle and sounds of Main Street.

Here's my 2 cents. Individually, I like most of the parts of this promotion.

I kind of hate the song, but really, I hate most pop music too, so the music does not bother me too much here as I just assumed it would not be my cup-o-tea anyway.

I like the idea of the 'real people' centered TV ads. The one they showed today got to me in a way that a lot of their commercials don't (Except for the "I'm too excited to sleep" one, which hit the nail right on the head).

I think in execution, seeing some photos up on the castle will be a cool experience for most folks, and if I get to see my family photo up there while I am there, it's a bonus for me and my kids. I dont think that pictures of guests on the castle will bother me too much. I've been going to that park for over 30 years, and I've seen it in all sorts of states, dressed as a cake, parts under refurbishment tarps, lights, etc. Some pictures projected on there is not going to ruin my experience one tiny bit.

I even like the idea that they used the official blog as a place to let us see an annoucement on what is happening for the parks. I'd like to see more of that. Keeping us rabid fans in the loop is great.

It's just that they blew it out of proportion. Something the scope of this should have been handled with a press release, an official blog post with some pictures and a sample ad, and that's it. Making it seem like something exciting was being announced was just way overkill. Having a press conference, hyped up on the blog and Facebook, for something that the most average Disney guest would say "that's kind of neat" is just asking for a large portion of their fans to be underwhelmed...

Seriously, I raced out of a training session, grabbed the closest lunch I could grab, and back to my desk to tune in to THAT? Meh.

I agree, but who cares? What possible interest would anyone have at looking at complete strangers on the castle? They do something like on the globe at Illuminations, and it's boring as hell. Nobody cares.

If you want to use the technology and do something like show clips from Disney films or something, fine. But strangers photos?

It will be okay if the Photo's are not the center of attention but I think they will be. I wish they would just scatter them throughout Wishes (I have a feeling Wishes is dead, sadly). Either way, I don't see the extreme hate! There is no way this will be on the castle all night so whats the deal? If you don't want to look at them, ride SM. It could be a crowd killer. And if it turns out the crowds don't care either, Disney will just get ride of the pictures anyway. I don't see how this will effect anything in the slightest bit. This is why we never get something new. This is not directed to anyone specifically.

EDIT: Apparently, this will be just an addition to Wishes. I think it will be awesome. Keep in mind all we have seen are tests.

Maybe some of you have speculated on this and I missed it, but I can't figure out what Disney hopes to gain from this. I mean, it is a marketing plan, but what's the end game?

John and Mary Doe from St. Louis upload some photos and then get an email from WDW saying "Hey - we loved two of your pics and we'll be projecting them onto the castle six weeks from now??"

So John and Mary book airfare for 6, 2 hotel rooms and 5 nights at a deluxe on the dining plan, to see their mugs on the castle for 10 seconds, while 40,000 other guests ignore them?

I don't get it.

Why can't Disney market what makes those "memories", not necesarily the memories themselves? Seeing your face on the castle for a few seconds doesn't sound like it'll be making too many memories for anyone.

WDW is (or was) special in many ways...world-class attractions, immersive environments, quality food, beverage, and merchandise, friendly class members that would go out of their way to service you, and a place where everyone could go to escape the world for a bit in a vacation kingdom. But everything seems so dumbed-down now. Magic Kingdom is (or will be) essentially a kiddie park. What happend to rides for everyone, not just the lowest common denominator? What happend to replacing light bulbs before they burnt out? It's too bad the average guests don't realize that they're being shorted, and that their money spent at WDW would've gone a lot farther years ago. Disney should fix what made their parks memorable in the first place.

Does anyone have a rough idea of how much it costs Disney to market these new "celebrations"? Couldn't they save a boatload of $$$ by either keeping the same "celebration" longer than normal or just make one slogan and stick with it without a constant change to the theme for the year?

I understand anniversaries, but can't they just save the money?

All pointless Disney "celebrations" must have a crappy generic pop song to go with it.
Exactly. As soon as I heard them announce they were performing a song, I listened to the first 5 bars and tuned out. The songs are not really offensive, but just not my thing. AT ALL.

Honestly, all the "celebrations" are a microcosm of how much Disney has lost it's way. Instead of relying on their world class attractions and terrific storytelling ability, they've turned to gimmicks and fake emotional ploys in order to attract guests.

It's a shame.

Yup... I figured it would be a new celebration. I was wondering when they would announce it, and here it is. Yippie-skip.

Honestly though, after seeing the demonstration video of the new projector, I am amazed how something with SO MUCH POTENTIAL could be TOTALLY WASTED on this fecal matter of an idea. No one wants to see pictures of other people!

I'd rather see a new fireworks spectacular using the projector for added effects, like they did on Wishes with the Sorcorer's Hat being projected on the castle, just on a bigger scale.
