I'll be the odd ball here.

I LIKED it. I think it was pretty awesome. I was hoping for more for WDW but I think this technology is amazing. Keep in mind the videos we have seen are tests. I am sure those photos will be way better when this actually launches. The potential here is large.

I wil join you.

As someone who wasn't freaked out about this mysterious announcement, and someone that didn't spend his whole afternoon watching the press conference, mostly because I was at work, I actually liked the idea a lot! :sohappy:

Until we see it in execution it is hard to come to a solid conclusion, but this has a lot of potential. My only concern, and the one and only way on which I see this being bad, is if the slideshow - and any eventual song they pair it up with - ends up destroying the atmosphere by the castle's front.

Otherwise, I don't see how could this be bad. That video actually brought tears to my eyes.... :o

EDIT: I just saw the video of the projection test, and I hope they improve things.

The beginning of this thread was kind of amusing. Star Wars expansions, broadway-style shows, and so on........ where are people getting these ideas? And why would you have any reason to believe it would be anything of substance? If it's "DISNEY PARKS" related, it's disappointing news. This one was no different. How about they stop creating new themes and just create quality? That would give people a reason to come.

Why do they keep messing with the big icons of the parks?

The Hat, the Wand, the Cake, the toilet paper on the castle....

Aren't there a number of other places to do these things? There are other places that aren't as iconic and stand alone as the Castle, Spaceship Earth, etc. where they can do stuff like this. I don't get it...

This whole idea makes the castle look like a screensaver.

I think they should have done the 3d pipes instead...

I'm sure they will! However, disclaimers aren't really legal shields.

Right.

When PhotoPass contacted us to see if we'd let them use our photos on marketing materials, we had to sign a waiver and send it back to them. (We haven't seen our likenesses anywhere, but we did get two vouchers for free PhotoPass CDs).

If they add a disclaimer to your ticket media that says something like, "If you're here, we can take your picture and use it however we want" they can probably get away with it. Similar to any sporting venue where you might be on national television.

What happens to those folks that don't realize what they are signing away rights to in the way of their images and they are in the witness protection program or something like that? Would that not pose a huge risk to their anonymity? This has legal headache written all over it.....plus it's just going to look tacky.

Yea, there's no way they can legally put a disclaimer on the ticket to allow EVERYONE's picture to be used.

If you're in the witness protection program, I'd like to think that you'd have enough sense to NOT sign the rights to your image away.

And honestly, aren't the chances of this sort of worst case scenario rather minute?

If you're in the witness protection program, you have "people" who take care of that kind of stuff for you, and you'd be more careful than just signing forms willy nilly.

Besides, if you go to a public venue (like WDW), you're going to be in pictures and then on the internet no matter what. People take pictures and post them on their own social media sites. Disney is just doing the same thing. There won't be names attached to the photos unless you submit your own media to Disney with a story.

For marketing materials...no. To display on the castle, yes. When you go to a pro football game, it's understood that your image will likely appear on the Jumbotron and/or national television. The same applies to WDW. You're in a public venue where photos and videos are being taken.

They can't put your face in a TV commercial or brochure unless you sign your life away. But they can most definitely plaster you on the castle if they took your picture that day in the park.

Lol....no you are right...dont bother to improve the parks but using an extremely popular property for the BOYS...lets do more princess stuff because little boys just love princesses........

That a "Marvel Land" would be an improvement is certainly open to debate.

As for boys...there's Pirates of the Caribbean, there's the Tower of Terror, there's the Stunt Show, there's RocknRoller Coaster...and if Disney wanted to use more boy-oriented characters, there's the Incredibles, the Lion King, and so on. The latter two properties have been miserably underutilized in the parks, so, IMO, Disney should use them and nuts to Spiderman.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
