Wasps

I have heard of crazy bees at AKL a few years ago but I have never seen a bee or a wasp at Disney World. I hope this isn't some kind of new budget cut where they cut back on spraying the property thoroughly.

OMG, this is just awful. In your case, I hope Disney comped you something.

So now Disney is responsible for compensating someone for getting stung while outside? Do I have to compensate someone if they get stung while sitting on my patio?

Sorry but I do not expect Disney to spray for insects. I actually would prefer they didn't. Randomly spraying chemicals around a highly populated area is not smart and most bugs are beneficial whether we like them or not.

I am sure that they do spray for insects, and I agree that we really need to be careful about chemicals that kill bees, we need bees and they are being killed at an alarming rate.

LOL. Again, the poster is a *paying* hotel guest, so it is not an unreasonable expectation for him to make use of the hotel pool and other facilities without worrying about getting attacked and stung by wasps.

We are not talking about one or two random sting bites -- the poster was attacked by a wasps nest and suffered multiple bites. So yes, he was definitely inconvenienced to put it mildly.

The hotel should not be performing maintenance duties nearby while guests are using the pool or facilities. If this was an emergency they should have just closed it. The maintenance workers chopped down the wasps nest, so this was preventable.

I don't think anyone should expect to be attacked by a swarm of wasps *anywhere* -- especially, not at a hotel pool.

The poster said he was attacked and bitten by wasps, I wasn't there so you can take that up with him.

With that said, I respect and understand your point, too. But, I *totally* disagree.

Yes it is quite unreasonable. Despite the best pest management program you could ever think to implement, there is a chance you are going to be stung when outside.

No not when it is an obvious problem that Disney can do something about very easily by spraying. I'm sorry someones life trumps people being offended by chemicals, and even if you have an epi pen with you your trip is ruined and it could be prevented by sparaying when there is an obvious problem, and besides that them being all in and around the soda fountain where drinks come out is just plain nasty.

This is where you are wrong. There is nothing easy about controlling pests. And spraying too many chemicals could be far more harmful to people's health and lives than a few bees or wasps.

It's Florida, people. The land of roaches, mosquitos and fire ants. All insects difficult to eradicate without the use of potent and deadly petrochemicals. So expect some flying bugs to be part of that mixture of fauna that so endears those of us who live here to this state.

My suggestion is that if you have any other allergies, especially food based, to get yourself tested. And carry an epi pen. I'm mildly allergic to bees. Haven't been stung since the night before we moved to Florida from Los Angeles. However, I do not and will not advocate the indiscriminate spraying of pesticides to eradicate wasps. Because (1) those chemicals kill other insects vital to our survival (pollinators) and (2) those chemicals end up in run off that pollutes the aquifers in Florida and thus our source of drinking water and water for crops and livestock. It's called an ecosystem for a reason.....

You hope Disney comped them something? For something that could happen anywhere? Ughh. Entitlement syndrome at it's finest.
I had to read that quote twice, hoping that I somehow read it wrong the first time.
I'm beginning to think Disney needs to give a wildlife test to all non-Florida resident visitors before selling them tickets..... btw, sarcasm. ;)

Yeah, like you, I'm constantly knocking down wasp/hornet nests. Hate those mud wasps. Have been stung several times by yellow jackets...now those buggers hurt.
I'm beginning to think that people are completely crazy. I just read this entire thread confused as to if people are being serious in their requests/expectations.

I honestly think some are... serious in their requests/expectations. If I got stung by a bee or wasp at WDW, I'd just think, "man, that bites..and I'm outdoors in Florida enjoying the warm weather." And nothing more.

I had a baby snake in my room at Poly last time, the morning we were checking out. Not gonna lie- totally creeped me out when I noticed it.

Housekeeping was out in the hallway, poor woman looked more frightened than I was when she saw it. She called someone at the front desk and I'm sure they came and removed it. End of story.

I imagine that if the same thing would have happened to a lot of people on Disney message boards- they would have demanded their entire 9 nights be comped. I wasn't on any boards at that time, the thought never even crossed my mind. Not that I would ask for it now anyway. No harm, no foul. Things happen. Accept what part of the country you are in, especially if you are outdoors.

Sadly, you are probably correct.

I opened up my dresser drawer one morning years ago to get out a T-shirt. Happily curled up on the top shirt was a baby rat snake. I slammed the drawer shut, called my boyfriend at the time to come get that snake out of my dresser. When he showed up 20 minutes later, the snake was still in the same spot. As he wasn't unnerved by it, he picked it up and carried it outside. While I was asking my dogs how they could have let a snake get in the house without challenge. Yeah, it took a while for me to calm down. So I understand how that poor housekeeper felt. But I never thought about suing my landlord....it was the dogs' fault. ;)

Lol. That's what I wonder most, do people expect things to be perfect in all areas of life, or just at WDW? Sites like this have been incredibly helpful for my next trip. I made so many mistakes last year. Everything I knew about Disney from child, teenage, and adult trips didn't translate into a flawless "mom trip".lol

But omg, even though they are helpful, I get so shocked by what I read sometimes!

Well, having grown up in the canyons around L.A., I was used to snakes. But not seeing one in my dresser drawer, lol. I hate to admit it, but that "discussion" I had with my dogs was at a volume much greater than normal. We used to joke that the "watch" dogs would welcome the burglars, show them where the silver was, "watch" them take it, and then escort them back out, barking "have a nice day!". Great dogs, but pretty much a failure at anything but sleeping, eating and chasing the occasional rabbit.

I *always* wear stylish bikinis by the pool and I just *love* to flaunt. Public pools are just gross to me, so you won't ever find me in that water. LOL. Sometimes, I *might* sit by the edge of the pool and just let my legs dangle in the water but that's about it. But, I try not to do that because someone almost always ends up pulling or pushing me into the pool. Eww! I totally *love* swimming in the oceans, rivers and lakes, though.

Anyway, getting attacked and bitten by a massive swarm of wasps while wearing next to nothing would be like totally devastating to me. So, I can't even fathom how you find this to be normal or part of *nature*. I never go to a hotel pool expecting to be bitten all over my body from head to toe by a huge swarm of angry wasps. LOL.

I've traveled extensively, literally since I was born. I only stay in high end hotels and I have never seen maintenance workers out working with loud chainsaws and cutting down trees and shrubs right beside guests at the pool. LOL. This is something that is done while the pool is closed. If it's an emergency than close the pool to ensure guest safety.

The OP said that the maintenance workers intentionally knocked the giant wasp hive down -- at which point, he was immediately swarmed and attacked by the wasps and ended up with multiple painful wasp bites from head to toe!!! You may find this kind of thing to be acceptable and *normal* and part of *nature* but I don't!

I used to get offended whenever I saw someone call posters here stupid Disney apologists but not anymore. Some people have absolutely no common sense, no standards and no expectations. You know those, "oh we're just so lucky to be at Disney uh-duh" types who prefer a towel animal over a clean room. Just tacky and classless people. And, I bet my last pair of Jimmy Choo's -- that they look like total slobs by the pool, too. LOL.

Anyway, these Disney apologists are just the lowest of the low and they expect everyone to have their low standards, too -- just because "it's Disney uh- duh" LOL. Um no. I am not apologizing nor will I ever compromise my high standards and expectations for anyone especially dumb Disney apologists.

Also, if I invite you to my pool party -- you will be well entertained, well fed and well taken care of! You won't want for anything at my pool party. With that said, if for some ridiculous reason I decide to pull out the old chainsaw and perform maintenance work during my pool party and I intentionally knock down a giant wasps nest right next to you where you end up being attacked and bitten from head to toe. I will make sure that you receive medical attention and will attempt to make things right, and if I have to file a claim with my insurance company for your needs to be met and for you to be compensated -- I sure will. And, you won't have to ask either. That's the kind of person I am and those are the kind of people that I am accustomed to. And, I am so grateful for that.

I am sure that they do spray for insects, and I agree that we really need to be careful about chemicals that kill bees, we need bees and they are being killed at an alarming rate.
No one here said anything about eradicating bees from the earth -- people who use hyperbole like that just to prove a point are just plain stupid to me and I think they should be eradicated from earth! I'll gladly take the wasps anyday!

Also, it's funny to hear people talk about *nature* when Disney *heavily* sprays the entire resort! I really hope Disney reads this thread and just stops spraying altogether and let some of these people get a real taste of *nature*. LOL.

I'm not trying to be mean but can you read? I am specifically talking about a poster in this thread who was attacked and bitten from head to toe by a giant hive of wasps that was purposely knocked down by maintenance workers while he was swimming at his hotel pool. Ugh.

I'm not privy to landlord tenant laws at all, as I have never rented. I purchased my first property when I was twenty, it was a cute three story townhome but since it was just brought up here. I think it was such a bizarre comment. LOL. I had to carry homeowners insurance in case anyone got injured while visiting on my property. I have never had to sue anyone and I have never been sued. But, it's really no big deal, just business, it's just how things are done.

Again, I used to get upset whenever I saw other posters talking about how dumb and thirsty some Disney guests are and how some of them will accept anything Disney tosses at them and probably pay them extra for it. Like, how Spongebob pays Mr. Krabs to work overtime, lol. Sorry, that's the only analogy that I could think of right now. Anyway, I always thought that was hyperbole. But, after reading this thread, not anymore. LOL.

ETA: @bpadair32 -- Thank you for your post. I just want you to know that none of what I said was specifically aimed toward you. It is all aimed toward Disney apologists and I really don't think you are a Disney apologist -- at least, you haven't given me reason to believe that. So, I hope I didn't come across too harshly toward you because that was not my intent.

Got stung at Typhoon Lagoon trying to refill my cup... i only stood there, wasn't even trying to swat the damn things... the cast members were nice as anything but why on earth can't disney keep these pests in check? blizzard have the mist machines which keeps them away from the fountains.

But thanks for telling us all that you only stay at high end hotels, bought your first home at 20, love Jimmy Choo's and *love* to flaunt it by the pool. Prize for most useless post...

LOL.
Apparently you missed any high end hotels in Florida, the Caribbean, South America, Central America... Most spots on the map actually. I've yet to stay at a hotel in a warm climate and not see any wildlife or bugs on property.

Also, given the fact that you purchased a condo, you probably had to pay condo fees. Those fees are in part for exterior maintenance, and no- if you get stung by a wasp outside of your condo you can't sue anyone for it. Or even ask to be comped your condo fees for that month, ok I guess you could ask, but you won't get anything besides maybe a laugh.

I'm extremely curious though, because the whole thing was kind of awesome-
Was your post written as a joke?

I used to get offended whenever I saw someone call posters here stupid Disney apologists but not anymore.

Anyway, these Disney apologists are just the lowest of the low
I've never seen anybody get converted quicker and more wholeheartedly to the dark side than since bratty Anakin didn't get his way all the time! :D

No one here said anything about eradicating bees from the earth -- people who use hyperbole like that just to prove a point are just plain stupid to me and I think they should be eradicated from earth! I'll gladly take the wasps anyday!

After reading this post several times I can only assume that is sarcastic and a joke. If so, well done it works really well as a joke. If this is actually serious well then lets just say let me know and I will respond to each section.

I know I'm "new" here, but can someone tell me if this is for real, and the posts after? I read it several times last night as well.

There is a big difference between eradicate all bees and keeping bees out of public parks as much as you possibly can, there is a place for bees but Disney isn't it and wasps serve no purpose other than being aggressive little pests.

Uhh....you can't control NATURE when you're in OUTDOOR areas.
