Wasps

Sorry but I do not expect Disney to spray for insects. I actually would prefer they didn't. Randomly spraying chemicals around a highly populated area is not smart and most bugs are beneficial whether we like them or not.
While I can sympathize and even agree with your environmental position I think the safety of humans trumps being kind to insects. There are a good number of people that could be seriously injured and even the remote possibility of death if they got stung - almost anyone would have a day at least partially ruined. The chemicals that Disney uses (as well as the many other methods they employ) are well regulated and do not inflict substantial harm on the environment and it doesn't seem like we are running the risk of not having wasps and mosquitos by killing a few million of them.

It isn't a matter of being kind to insects, its a matter of they outnumber us by huge amounts. At certain times of the year, it is an impossibility to keep all of them away. Perhaps if lucky, the majority, but, they will still be there. There is no magical screen surrounding WDW that keeps them out. They have to rely a great deal on a predatory type of system because chemicals and huge crowds do not necessarily mix well. And it only lasts until the wind moves it away to any other spot. Chemicals help, and I'm sure they use them to an extent. However, there can be to much of a good thing when it comes to chemicals.

I'm all for being kind to most insects. Wasps, however, are pure evil and should be shown no mercy. My suggestion- Disney needs to assemble a crack team of dogfigthing hot shot pilots with good fighting planes, miniaturize them (admittedly, this is the trickiest step), and send them after the wasps.

And those same people can get stung outside of the park and in their own homes so your point is moot.

I'll bet they still have the machines from Body Wars that shrinks down the vehicles. Just dig them out of storage.
They may also still have the "HISTA" equipment stuck in a closet someplace. So really that should be easiest part.

I talked with the manager that was on duty at the time. They asked if I needed medical assistance, which I declined. Luckily I'm not allergic to stings but I told them I expected to see the problem resolved within the hour as someone else might not be so lucky. They came out a short time later and fogged the area. As for compensation I wasn't offered anything nor did I expect anything at the time.

Why would a person get any compensation from being stung, right?. They are attracted to the soda fountains that the general public uses. They make a mess and spill all over the place so that does not help. Maybe they need to take away the self serve fountains. It is nature, no amount of spraying is going to eradicate all wasps. Why, oh why cant Disney control nature? Damn you Disney, make it never rain and get rid of all pests in the world.

The compensation reply was to someone else that was like "I hope you got compensated." As I stated earlier in this thread, my specific instance was at one of the quiet pools at POR. The reason I asked management to handle this specific problem was because there were several dozen wasps that were swarming near the pool and hotel rooms. A few wasps I wouldn't care about but the amount that I saw and the fact that they were aggressive is the reason I asked for them to be dealt with.

Yep, when I re-read my post it sounded bad toward you, not my intention. I rewrote to agree with you more. I know you did not expect compensation. I don't see why anyone would expect Disney(or anyone else) to be in control of insects. Humans have been trying to rid themselves of them since forever.

Got stung at Typhoon Lagoon trying to refill my cup... i only stood there, wasn't even trying to swat the damn things... the cast members were nice as anything but why on earth can't disney keep these pests in check? blizzard have the mist machines which keeps them away from the fountains.

I didn't realize it was Jersey week again

Knowing wasps (and I do, because one stung me in the face once for no other reason than I was there), the wasps probably kicked out the pleasant, neighborly bugs who lived there first. And by "kicked out" I mean "murdered in grisly serial killer fashion", because wasps are EVIL.

Another vote for wasps are evil

They could even use the old Body Wars to shrink them Now I see someone beat me to it

If A Bugs Life has taught us anything, it should be that grasshoppers, not wasps, are the ones to fear, although there are some people who do not enjoy being "stung" during ITTBAB at DAK.

Again peeps!! i know its open air, what i mean is, Disney have some amazing ways of doing things in the parks, surely they can come up with a clever way to deter them from that one area. just like they do in Blizzard.
