Warning: double booked ADR's may be cancelled!

Read this on another board- someone said they double booked for some meals to keep their options open while they finalized plans (their bad, they admit) and when they called dining found they had cancelled all double booked ADR's! another person chimed in and confirmed that they did as well (husband tried to surprise wife but didn't bother cancelling original reservation) and found ALL of their ADR's for their trip were cancelled. A CM from that board had warned people before that they've been doing this informally for years, but apparently the new system makes it easier for them to spot double bookings and cancel them.

On line reservations make double booking even easier. However, doing so could mean you are without a reservation that night, or as some have discovered, ALL nights of their trip. It couldn't hurt to call or run your ADR #'s through the on line system to make sure there were no mistakes made too.

I wasn't trying to get into a debate on fairness ....but :sohappy:!!!!!!!! I agree with you! On the other board, someone question the legality of the cancellation- um, Disney is under no legal obligation to hold your reservations, just like you aren't legally bound to show up! :ROFLOL:Guess he was a lawyer.

If this is true then well done Disney. The threat of having all your ADR's cancelled for being a selfish ______ and double booking should be enough to put most off.

I am so glad that they are doing this too. I'm just worried about one thing, I have reservations for 5 at one place at for 2 at another for our party of 7, will this be a problem with double booking? We are set up under grand gatherings because there are a total of 11 of us. Surely they would see this, right? We only have one day like that and the rest of the time we are all dining together.

Since they are attached to a reservation and the numbers make sense, they should- but you may want to call in and have one of the two ressies put under a different name to differentiate them. Some CM's reportedly are doing it automatically for situations like yours.

You have to figure in the requirements gathering meetings that the idea of automatically disallowing double-booking was discussed. The code to accomplish this is very simple, and you don't even have to give the user a nasty error message. All you need to do is not show search results that overlap existing ADRs. No error message required.

Thats what I would like, something like a 2 day window to resolve double books, and no double books at a certain cut off time, such as a week before your trip

I in fact just had some double books. I had reservations, then my kids asked if I could get a different place to eat, then I had to move some things, and then a time opened up at a place that was booked before.

End of story I had two nights double booked. One was booked under the online system using no log in or trip ID, the others were via a call, and using my room reservation.

Long story short, the next day I called in and canceled the conflicts - they CM by the way must have thanked me a dozen times for releasing reservations I was not going to use.

I have a question. Or maybe I'm just needing some reassurance here. LOL! In January we have a trip planned. My in-laws are going, too. We all agree that we don't wanna do everything together. There are restaurants the in-laws want to eat at that we don't. Our rooms are booked under separate reservation numbers: ours is a party of 4 and theirs is a party of 2. I am the one doing all the bookings, ADRs, payments, arrangements, etc. so the address and phone number listed for both reservation numbers is mine. I'm thinking that when I book all our ADRs if the in-laws have dinner somewhere other than us at the same time that it will NOT see this as a double-booking as long as the resort reservation numbers associated with the ADRs is different. Is this correct? In this scenario I don't want us to be viewed as a double booking when we aren't. Y'all think this will be okay? :shrug:

I called a few minutes ago and booked a new dining reservation for my parents in their name for that one night. I didn't want to take a chance with anything. I asked the CM about them canceling like that and she didn't know anything about it. Anyway, like I said, I am so glad that they are doing that but there are times where a party of 7 may book 5 at one place and 2 at another. Oh well, I'm safe now, I could just see that one day messing my whole vacation up. :ROFLOL:

That is correct. As long as they are booked under different names and different numbers the system has no way to recognize them as a double book.

ugh...I tried to cancel a double booking I had. I checked Sci Fi for a better time. I originally had a res for 3:20pm and wanted to eat earlier so I booked it for 1:20pm and tried to cancel the other one. I looked it up online...no luck, just kept saying they couldn't find my ressie. So I called and they tried to look it up over the phone, couldn't find it by confirmation number so I thought that I may have written it down wrong.

I gave her my name...both ressies were booked under my name but I wasn't 100% sure which of my 3 phone numbers I used (I usually use my home number but she couldn't find it) I asked her to check by my name and she couldn't find it.

So now I suspect I have a booking for 1:20 and 3:20 on the same day with no luck canceling my dupe...hopefully if they come across the booking and decide to cancel one, they cancel the right one because I'm not sure what else I can do :shrug:
