IMHO those out of town I would not bother for July and August trips just too many unknowns. A trip in September until the end of the year I think things will go much smoother and less restrictions as well. Depending on what you look at Florida is in a Phase 1, 2, and 3 right now things from PH3 are already open in this phase and so on. I would honestly let the locals work with Disney to work out all of the kinks.
I believe Disney is hedging this..:

Because the summer is shot for them...they have two fall scenarios:
1. Things go back to normal and the ramp back to normal with pent up demand
2. Virus issues come back and they have to draw it back down again.

This “test period” under the conditions I think satisfy Wall Street while also limiting what they can handle to their comfort.

We are scheduled for November 7th so plenty of time for things to smooth out. Hopefully there is not a big covid return in the Fall but at that point if they have to close the parks again we should get to reschedule.

I think most owners who rented their points would allow someone to change the date as long as t’s not beyond their use year. No harm to them. Disney or really DVC could continue to waive the change rules to make it most easy to do. That would help their own owners too that are booking for themselves.
You’re forgetting the 4 months of backlogged reservations and the forced extension of what should be now expired points...

Reservations are gonna be “tough” for awhile. DVC was not designed as a weekly rental market with middlemen.

Ours expired in May and I would have renewed it then if our May trips hadn't cancelled. After that, I had decided to just wait and let Disney tack on x number of days, and then renew at the end of that.

But...if there might be an affinity event that might include AP's, I'd like to have an AP. :) Right now, all we have is expired AP's, and because of that, I don't know if we'll be included in announcements for AP's??

Are you saying that you were able to extend your passes during your phone call, after agreeing to the terms?

Also wondering...what were the terms of accepting the extension?
You need to call Disney and tell them you wanted the extension, not the partial refund, for the days missed. How many days were there between the time Disney closed and your expiration date? That's how many days your pass would be extended. That would also mean your pass would still be active.

I’m not even talking about allowing them to extend a full year. Just move it back to later this year when the parks are open. There is likely going to be plenty of availability the rest of 2020.

Yep it's not the best solution but it's a fair solution IMHO plenty of availability.

Thank you! I didn't realize you had to call, I thought they were proactively extending if you didn't request a refund, but I haven't seen that happen.

The passes expired May 8th, so 53 ish days.

And sorry for this bonehead question, but the 53 additional days start, when? I presume it's July 11 and that would push our new expiration to 53 days beyond that on Sept 2nd? Thanks again!

If paying in full the extension was automatic. If it was month to month you have to call. I pay for my pass in full every year but I called a few weeks ago to extend the passes for my parents that pay month to month. I manage both of their accounts so wasn't hassled about being authorized to make changes to their passes etc.

Weird, we are out of state AP's, so paying in full is our only option. So it was paid in full and hasn't been extended. (Unless there's something I'm missing when I look at this online??)

It never expired...but since the ticket systems has been “frozen” since 3/17 you maybe can’t see it in real time?

As it stands now...your pass would be extended to however many days past July 11 that you had left on the original expiration counting from 3/17...

...I think...and now ive gone cross eyed 😵

Paying in full was an automatic extension, I would assume that is also the case for out of state passholders but I'm not sure. I believe the CM told me the dates in app wouldn't update until the parks opened. The month to month passes basically had two options.

1- Passes don't extend but you aren't billed during the months they are closed. If your pass expires on 6/15, then your pass expires on 6/15, but you also weren't charged your last 3 months. This was the defaulted option.

2- Opt to agree to being billed after the parks reopen, with your pass extending the number of days closed. You had to call for this option.

You are still able to buy APs, even today. It's only regular park tickets and special tickets that they aren't selling. If they do the same as Shanghai, you buy an AP today, the end date will then be extended to cover from today until the end of the advanced reservation period. It really is that simple, and again, no reason to think that Disney will have a different policy for WDW APs that they do for Shanghai APs.
I just got off the Phone with the VIP AP pass holders # after waiting 35 min i was told that NO AP purchase and NO renewals and that even the shut down the Fast Pass Selections as well we moved out trip yesterday from 7/5-12 to 7/25- 8/2 I also tried calling the DVC # and all i get is busy signal.........

Yep. I‘m trying to figure out what to do with an August trip. Aside from health concerns I don’t want to go under these restrictions and without knowing how things will actually work. My preference would be to just push to August 2021 but with the point rules I stand to lose a handful of 2019 points banked into 2020 and all of my 2021 points that I borrowed. Ironically my 2020 points are the only thing I can keep and bank into 2021 if I cancel now. Since my use year is March I’m considering rescheduling for Feb 2021 soon since that‘s the furthest out I can go. The 30 day rule screws me too because if I don’t cancel by July 20 all the points go into a holding account and I have to wait until 60 days out to book a replacement room with them. So I have no time to see how the new rules will work in practice. I do wish they would relax that rule even if they can’t allow me to extend beyond Feb. I could have a few more weeks to look at the situation. It is what it is. DVC has been a great overall product for us, this is the first time I wish I just had a cash reservation.

I called today and asked for a partial refund of my AP, which I believe will be about 113 days worth. I was going to renew online, but I was paying the balance in full with Disney gift cards, so I called ticketing and asked if I could pay for the renewal over the phone with multiple gift cards. I was calling anyways regarding a refund for my AH tickets. Not only did she allow me to pay with multiple gift cards, but she also applied the refund that I was getting for the AH tickets to the total beforehand. I had no problem renewing and the passes are sitting in my account waiting to be used. I did not get the partial refund for the other APs yet. They are not processing them, but said they would be in a few weeks. You are going to have to pay the renewal rate in full ($1080) if you want to renew now.

I was able to renew this morning around 9am. However, I did have problems with the APs being put in the account---they put all three APs in my name and would not let me transfer them to my husband and son online. I called and got that sorted and just checked and they are correct now in my account. I renewed an out-of-state Platinum pass if that matters.

The person you talked with gave you inaccurate information. I can purchase a new AP from the website even today. And another poster just stated that he was able to renew over the phone today utilizing Disney gift cards. If you click on other types of tickets it takes you to the COVID-19 page for Disney, but the AP goes right through. I even chatted with another CM and she stated that APs are still available to purchase.
