Walt Disney World to build 2,000-room Hotel: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

I earlier posted that I didn't see any activity going on at POP when I was there in Oct. I must admit we spend most of our times at the parks, so if there were movement over there I might have missed it, but I stayed there two years ago, and not much has changed. There were construction vehicles but I didn't see anything going on. Like I said we were facing hourglass lake in the sixties, and if there was a bustle of activity going on I think I would have noticed. I'm curious myself how things are going. The first time I stayed there a few years back, I saw vehicles over there all the time, but I think they were using the old buildings more for storage, at least that is what a CM told me.

I know it isnt the same scale, but when I had purchased a new house I was able to see how fast the house went from a empty lot to looking complete at least on the outside. It was literally a week from the time that the framing went up to the time it looked mostly done!!! I'm sure once they start, it will be a pretty quick process. Someone with a little more construction background might be better able to shed some light on this though. Marie

We were there at POP mid Sept and there was activity going on the new resort.
Anyone know if they have completely finished the remodel at POP? Last I heard they where finishing the 50's.

How many of the existing buildings can still be used? There will have to be a huge team water blasting and fumigating.

There were two guest room buildings built, and the main building. You can see them on satellite imagery. They'll definitely have to do some serious bleaching and powerwashing, but they can all three be used.

exactly! The water team will be in the pool for sure, at Disney's Art of Animation Resort at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

 I absolutely love to laugh, but I rarely see anything in life that makes me laugh heartily. Thanks!

Can someone please give me a brief history of this Hotel complex. I never stayed there and don't know why there are unfinished/abandoned buildings. Thanks:D

The readers Digest version is construction was started on both phases of Pop Century at the same time. 9/11 happened and tourism went into the toilet. Disney decided to finish the Classic Years side and mothballed the Legendary Years. It has basically sat untouched until construction resumed earlier this year. The Legendary yeas section will now become the Art of Animation resort.

Just some updates for ya...

they have absolutely been working on the Hotel. They have now removed the years off the front of the hotel. And there were lots of workers there too. You can see everything just driving by...

Thank you Master Yoda for the background on the Pop Century hotel. It was to the point and answered my question perfectly. You truly are the Master.:king:
