Mask mandates WILL make things ugly. A truly disturbing vision of the mask police in golf carts or Segway's harassing people because they may be outdoors (ever so briefly) w/o a mask. Politicians smiling because they found another revenue stream. If I go running, biking, hiking, driving my car, work in my yard or simply take out the trash NO I do not wear a mask because to date no one has been within 10 to12 yards of me far more than the mandated 6ft. At places of business or when in areas where others are and distancing becomes an issue, indoors or out, I do wear a mask. It is called common sense and common courtesy / consideration of others. Draconian imposition of such mandates is an opening for further abuse of power and authority. If you like authoritarianism go to The Peoples Republic of China.
Mask mandates can be done right - here in MA, the law is that you must wear one indoors (when not at home, obviously) and outdoors - but outdoors only when 6' minimum distance cannot be maintained. $300 fine per violation.

LACKING mask mandates is going to cause huge spikes in cases, business re-closures, and drag this out even longer than necessary. Never mind businesses trying to require masks and the jack-knobs who feel the desire to challenge those rules...we've already seen enough violence because of them thanks...give businesses the support they need to enforce mask rules by having mandates in place.

ETA: Common sense doesn't exist anymore.

That way, business owners would have the freedom to decide how to operate their businesses and customers would be able to decided if they were comfortable enough with those operating decisions to patronize.
That’s not how businesses work when it comes to any other health and safety issues. There are rules they must follow and if they don’t they can be fined and even shut down.

We have had a mask mandate in NJ since the lockdown. The dystopian slippery slope didn't come about. We await your apology for failing to deliver on your promised hellscape.

Joke's on you, New Jersey was already a hellscape *before* COVID.

My dad used to say that Jersey's state motto was "Drive through our state, you'll appreciate your state more!"

The concept of masks and social distance is “educated guesswork”, especially the distance part.

In my opinion, given 100 percent CORRECT mask usage AND 100 percent correct sanitation (hand washing, cleaning all surfaces), temp checks and folks staying home when they have any symptoms, in my opinion, we could drop the social distancing like in Asia.

BUT, humans will be humans and we won’t get that.

Do we want to? I mean the 6’ rule could maybe go but personally I would prefer some social distancing remain in the future.

I was speaking in terms of queuing in theme parks specifically and only in an ideal world if the other precautions were complied with 100 percent. Folks have always had their comfort zone and will stay away from other folk naturally as has always been.

I presume all will go back to normal after we have a vaccine anyway.

I prefer people give me space, so why eliminate the one thing I want permanent? ;)

Fair point. It is fairly accurate to forecast a relapse to previous behaviors once the much anticipated vaccine is actually given wide implementation. Sad, I feel a lot of people look so much better with masks on and keep away. Just saying.

@marni1971 , I'll do a quick search myself, but briefly, what's the Paris Ride Reservation system? How is it different than FP+? They will need to implement something it seems as lines are reportedly stretching ridiculous distances in the socially distance queuing.

Also, would it be realistic to think that a "one way" traffic system can be implemented. I'm thinking the stretch in Fantasyland, the corridor with Pan and IASW. To enter this area, you need to come up from LS. And you exit out towards Pinocchio's. Maybe "one ways" in other tight areas where there are extended queues pushing into it as well. ???

I believe you reserve a standby time and then go get in the standby line at the time. I don't think you can book it in advance; you do it that day while you are in the park.

I think the purpose is just to keep the standby lines from getting so long that they are stretched out way beyond the standard queue. So once they reach a certain point, they turn on the standby reservation system, and instead of getting in the standby line you get a time to return and wait in the line at that point. So if you had a standby reserved time at 2:30, and then you return at 2:30 and get in the standby line and wait however long the wait is.

Sounds magical.

You have a 30 minute window to return. Without Fastpass the line should move well (albeit with attraction capacity lowered)

Sounds magical.
Better than lines spilling out everywhere.

So it’s kinda like the old paper FP system where you get assigned a return time. But there is a chance you don’t need one at all just go directly to standby anytime. Also, without the need to run to certain kiosks to grab a ticket, I can get into that.
Any thought on the “one way” idea?
