Iā€™m still waiting for the people on here claiming back in May and June.. that when the parks open it will be mobbed and sold out everyday no matter the capacity. Hopefully they come back soon, would love to have a conversation with them.

Bless. Theyā€™re too busy sending me selfies of themselves from FANTASYLAND holding their vaccine prescription receipts. Iā€™ll let you know when theyā€™re free to chat.

In May and June (prior to the announcement) conditions in Florida were much different than in July and August. Didn't Chapek indicate that they were looking at having much higher numbers in terms of reservations when they initially announced reopening plans? Evidently it wasn't until the numbers in Florida skyrocketed that reservations plummeted.

Unless Chapek was lying, those people were saying something similar to what Disney was expecting. Conditions changed so the numbers changed.

Actually I should have said from March through August. Yes, they were talking that as soon as Disney closed. If I remember right, and I can go back to posts from then, it didnā€™t matter if things were skyrocketing it was that there were thousands of people that would go no matter what if they were open. I get what you are saying but I think you may be losing the context of the actual discussion which was it will be mobbed at opening and stay that way no matter what.

Until this weekend, most reports have been of light crowds.

My son went to Epcot in mid-July and took this photo on an early Sunday evening, showing the United Kingdom Pavilion from the south:

This is an image someone posted yesterday (Sunday) of the UK Pavilion from the north:

Based on what has been reported at all Orlando theme parks this weekend, Govern Ron DeSantis is crazy to suggest increasing capacity.
It's been said a few times by some folks, but weekends, especially holiday weekends, will look like that. I went last Thursday and it was a complete ghost town, literal walks not once stopping for Test Track, Frozen etc.

Well, I was waffling on going or not in 4 weeks. WIth these crowds, reservations starting to fill, and hours being REMOVED, Disney makes it a pretty simple decision. It's not going to be long when wait times will be pre-Covid, with fewer hours, and no entertainment.

I wonder if there are enough idiots to pay premium price for the extremely reduced product. I sure hope not.
I donā€™t know Iā€™d draw many inferences from this. I think if you go midweek (if you can swing it) itā€™ll be dead, dead, dead and virtually everything will be a walk-on.

I don't recall the no matter what aspect.

There have been lots of incorrect predictions. Some said Disney would never require masks or if they did it would never be enforced. Some said Disney wouldn't open until the end of the year. Some said we'd see major spikes from the parks opening...

I don't really see the point of focusing on wrong predictions when it comes to Disney World. If Disney itself wound up being "wrong" in its predictions, why would we expect fans to be any different?

Agreed. It was a comment back to another poster. That was it. Nothing more.

We were all excited to mid-September, but cancelled our trip when this news came out a few weeks ago. Expand capacity (aka make more park passes available) and put hours back to normal and people will come.

I'm a nut, and I know it.
Booked a visit for the end of this month last week.
Coming from MA, on a 'PIN Code' offer ol' Mickey sent me last week.
Was planning on Disneyland in happy California, which is my preference, but the Park is still closed...so.....
Epcot and MK it tis'.

The shorter hours actually work for me, as it will make getting together with friends of mine in the area a lot easier now.
Typically it would be tricky, as the Parks would close later in the evening and make our window of opportunity for getting together challanging.
This time however it will be nice to visit the Parks during the day, and then in evening hang out with friends.

So why did I decide to go ...?
I've been discouraging people I know who were planning to visit to hold off and wait until next year to get more 'bang for their buck'.
They have families in tow, and kids that would want to experience a lot of the elements currently not operating.
So I'd discourage it due to the sheer expense of it all and the amount of offerings and services temporarily suspended.
Far too expensive to invest in that kind of cost when only getting 25% of the 'full experience'.
For solo Park freaks like me, or pairs of Park freaks it is a different matter depending on personal preferences.

The lower attendence , lack of FP and other aspects will make this feel like the impromptu visits I make to Disneyland that require little pre-reserving.
At Disneyland in CA, I absolutely love just showing up, walking past the turnstiles, and then deciding on a whim what to do and then just DO IT.
None of this 'reserve everything six months in advance' mentality.
Just show up and enjoy your day with no 'schedule'....as a vacation should be.
Like 'vintage' WDW in the days of yore!
:)

Yes, I will miss the entertainment this time around.
The live entertainment , parade, and night time offerings in the Parks are a large part of the overall experience.
However, I have seen these multiple times over the years in person so I don't feel like I'm really 'missing' anything.
This visit will indeed be 'different', for sure, and that in itself is part of the appeal of going.

After being confined for the last five months cooped up here with most of the Spring and Summer local fun being cancelled, it's time for some adventure into the wilds of Orlando.
This purple dragon is now committed, and headin' into the firey 'hotspot'.
Bring it on.

Clearly casual non-passholders are NOT coming. And Disney seems to care not if they do.
People will go to Disney properties regardless. Every year when my wife and I discussed Disney trips, if I balked at a trip, she would glare at me like Queen Grimhilde and say "It's Disney!". When she passed away her final wish was for me to take the children and grandchildren to WDW and let them have whatever they wanted, if the money in savings was not enough to do it anyway. Well, money is not an issue and I kept the promise and made her wish come true. My point is going to a Disney park has evolved to more than going to an amusement park for many people. It is serious and personal and for some something that harkens back to the very beginnings as children going to Disneyland. So if the parks are open and operating COVID19 is not going to stop park attendance.

Yes, there are those that have some strange obsession with WDW. And they kept paying the ridiculous sums for less and less. Those folks are NOT showing up. My guess is a lot of those folks will realize their obsession was out of control, and this will be the catalyst for them to stop the insanity.

Yes, the hardcore ā€œIā€™m homeā€ people will continue their insanity, but I think Disney has cut to the bone, and is in no rush to add anything back. I donā€™t understand their business decisions. They just cancelled Christmas LIGHTS, as rumor has it Universal is actually doing a small version of HHN. Disney claims they canā€™t do park hopping safely, as Universal is in month 3 of park hopping, and operating a water park.

I can only speak for me, myself and I and the three of us will continue to go. There are plenty of protocols in place to address the illness and the reduced crowds make it more pleasant to enjoy moving about the properties. COVID19 is to be respected not feared. I agree the current corporate thinking is puzzling but things are changing quickly and in many ways. I am actually very curious to see the next development.

And you were humble bragging about money. The rich Diznoids will be unfazed, can Disney survive on them and local APers?

Seems like Disney don't even know where to put their priorities now. Ratatouille ride is supposed to be open by now and it seems like Universal will open their new rollercoaster earlier than Rat with how much fast the progress is even though it's scheduled for 2021.

On the other hand, I went to Universal this past weekend when all parks hit capacity and there were A LOT of angry turned away guests. So I guess the reservations is a better option.

Is that what you understood? Oh well, you believe what you want it is a free country. My going to Disney and my families going to Disney when ever or why is not about money. Cost is just a fact about going to Disney. I do not care if anyone is fazed or unfazed. I am not interested in what others spend or don't spend and Disney's dependency on certain categories of guests over others. Not my problem. I just enjoy the Disney trips I take and do not judge others.
