I love it, best car I've owned.
If only they wouldn't have called it a Mustang. It's a nice vehicle but it doesn't look like a Mustang. Either they should have made an actual electric Mustang or called what they made something else!
Complete side note: I just think it's funny how the "brands should stay out of politics" crowd says nothing when Musk as X frequently and directly engages in politics.

Interesting.
Let me go on record to say that I don't think Musk should be directly engaging in politics. Making twitter a forum that is open to all sides is fine but, as a Tesla shareholder, I don't feel he should be engaging the way he does. To paraphrase Michael Jordan, "a lot more Democrats buy electric cars."

A Mustang Mach E reminds me of a sacrilege but unfortunately it is the sign of the times. I will keep enjoying my V6 naturally aspirated hydraulic steering stick shift, buttons and dials etc.

It's pure marketing. At the time it launched, for the price they wanted no one would've bought it as its own model. Meanwhile Lincoln is a low volume brand compared to Ford, so it wouldn't sell in volume as a Lincoln. But as a "Mustang"?... it sold

Why is that a shock?

Do you think all Brands are the same? That is literally why the term Brand Identity exists.

I don't expect a rock band's lead singer to act the same way as a public school teacher. Jokes aside, those are different brands.

He posts transparently as a person because his brand both in company and individual is based on him doing so.

Just so I can derail this thread further. I literally don't care what it's called, it's fun car to drive and Mustangs are fun to drive, too many people are butthurt about the name who haven't actually driven one. I beat so many ICE Mustangs off the line who try to get me going, it's hilarious.

i dont like how the mach e is called a mustang either but I do like the way they look, I just wish they were called the new Edge or Escape instead haha. Also Corvette is coming out with an SUV vette as well....seems to just be the times

By surprising I mean "surprising." It's no shock to me that people are highly conditional in their beliefs despite insisting otherwise.

Also not surprising to me that the "brands should stay out of politics" crowd frequently muddies what is political versus not, or I should say, prefers to co-opt traditionally non-political positions to align with their own biases.

One could make the argument that both X and Disney are alike brands that wield significant public influence.

I don't like GM naming an SUV a Corvette either. It would make some sense if they made Corvette its own brand, but at the present time it is a Chevrolet model. It would be like Porsche naming the Cayenne the Porsche 911 Z or something like that. I will stop completely derailing this thread now!

Where does one get a 911 Z ?

That would be a very bad argument from someone who does not understand brand identity.
But as a consumer, it's obvious to see at least where the Venn diagram marginally overlaps. I'm not making a brand identity argument, just a "I find this interesting" observation. There's definitely an element of hypocrisy at play.

I am not saying it is wise what he is said and certainly not saying it is right or should be the tact anyone has.

However, I don't expect Marlyn Manson to present himself the same was as The Aquabats. Both are fantastic musicians and personas.

Branding.

Clearly, not much overlap because Elon's success comes from disruption and being the anti-Disney.
Elon Musk is not an entertainment industry leader to families but a disrupter.

You can find hypocrisy if you would like but understand why it is different.

No, I hear you - not saying you're advocating for or against him! I hear your point, and yes, the differences are greater than the similarities. I'm not advocating otherwise. These differences matter to those who are able to have a nuanced conversation, like what we're having here.

I'm simply saying at large, and on the surface, the hypocrisy is glaring.

It’s all funny to me. The politicians hate him. Yet at the same time depend on him and his company for getting us to space and broadband to the masses. And also have the most popular electric car company that pushes their green agenda forward. To have someone politically opposite that has power over you like that is driving them nuts. 😂
