Walt Disney Company 100 at [Cabochon] Disneyland

Disney's developing a bad habit of piecemeal introduction. Same as when Galaxy's Edge opened without Rise of the Resistance (which would have been enough to counteract the middling reviews it got in 2019), same as with WDW 50th, and now also with Toontown opening after MMRR in Disneyland.
the entire point is to spread expenditure over multiple fiscal years (which is why construction also takes at least 2 years, usually more) - making it look better, most importantly, to the shareholders and Disney company board

there will definitely not be a disneyland 70th anniversary celebration
I think that’s a safe bet. Highly doubt we’re getting anything, besides an acknowledgement, food, and t-shirts.

I’m actually fine with no 70th anniversary. The 75th is a bigger deal anyway. Also, given that the Disney 100 is not a park anniversary celebration, and I was not expecting for them to do anything special at DL for the celebration, I have no expectations for what they deliver and don’t necessarily care. I’m good either way.

I can easily imagine they are. I genuinely feel badly for them over their 50th. And now for the Company's 100th birthday they seem to be participating mainly by removing the junky stuff they got for the 50th. Celebrate! 🤔

When I first saw photos of them a few weeks ago, my jaw dropped open. That they ever got approved in the first place is a clear indication that the current executive leadership at WDW are either grossly incompetent, or drunk on the job. I can't think of another excuse to give them.

I mean KiteTails was hilariously funny, and I am thankful for all the laughs it gave me via YouTube, but even something minor and bad like KiteTails proves my point when you consider the damage it does to the "brand" and brand standards they once had for themselves in the parks.

The current executive leadership of the parks are either grossly incompetent, or drunk.

Not helping is that the barges served as "fountains" during the daytime. Which only makes them look even uglier!

The Disney100 Celebration at Disneyland Resort officially kicks off January 27th, 2023.

"Beginning Jan. 27, the Happiest Place on Earth will receive new platinum-infused décor throughout the resort, new sparkling looks for Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and their pals, special food and beverage offerings, merchandise and more."

"At Disneyland park, Walt Disney’s original Sleeping Beauty Castle will be dressed in style for the anniversary. Celebrating wonder, the castle will be adorned with elegant platinum banners and bunting, accented by a magnificent cabochon featuring the three Good Fairies who illuminate it with their shimmering pixie dust. Two majestic water fountains will grace either side of the moat, while a beautiful wishing star will sparkle from the tower above."

"As you begin to plan your trip to visit Disneyland Resort for the Disney100 anniversary, please know that theme park reservation availability for Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park is currently paused for dates beyond Jan. 8, 2023, and will resume for guests in the coming weeks. "

Disneyland has finally gotten fountains!

I also didn't think any theme park would celebrate the 100th, so the fact Disneyland is the hub of in-person celebrations is fun. It's all a bonus, I just hope the new shows are good.

I think all the Epcot stuff like Poppins, Play Pavillion, Moana Water Thing, and Guardians were supposed to be done for the 50th. I'd imagine Tron was supposed to be ready as well. Still though the in person offerings and entertainment for the 50th was really bad. None of the shows actually celebrated Disney World.

People paid big money to be there opening day and there wasn't anything noteworthy.
O for sure Disney Worlds 50th and Epcot 40th double whammy for everything there. I think the Festival Building was for 2023. All changed for Covid.

I was one of those people there on the first and I agree it was extremely disappointing. If they had all the gadgets at once though may have distracted people long enough to get away.

Then again things like Ratatouille and Harmonious were never meant for the 50th so truly who knows what could’ve been the celebration sans covid.

Remember Disneyland's 50th?

Every Disney park around the world celebrated. Disneyland had a HUGE ceremony on the actual birthday, with special guests and performances. An incredible 50th anniversary parade, one of the best fireworks to date, and a stunning golden decor package.

Add in that Matt Ouimet ensured Disneyland was in good condition at last, and it really was a special time, with a decent amount of heart.

Compared to WDW's 50th, which had nothing special at all on the actual day of the birthday... and shows that didn't tie into the 50th in the least... and no 50th parade for MK... and a lacking decor package...

I know Covid impacted all of it. But I do think they dropped the ball, especially for the actual anniversary date.

If anything, they should have focused ALL energy to Magic Kingdom, make that the 50th hub, go all out in just that park...

But they spread the offerings among all four parks, and you end up with a celebration that feels... sparse.
I get why they celebrated resort wide since it was also the resorts 50th but the offerings at Magic truly were a let down as they were spread throughout four parks.

Even the things we got were a bit misguided like the selection of characters for the statues being more focused on Disney+ vs park history.

One of the best additions was the upgrades to the Electrical Water Pagent. Oh well hopefully this serves as a lesson to the company to car a bit more .

I'd prefer the banners not be there, but this could have been much worse.

Huh??? o_O There's no banners there. I only see a few magnificent cabochons.

Look again, please. No banners. Magnificent cabochons only.

But seriously, I do like those fountains.

They can't be used for fireworks shows in any meaningful way. Or at least shouldn't be marketed for fireworks shows as only the first row of a few dozen people out of 25,000 parkwide viewers stand a chance of seeing them change color or something during the fireworks.

But as a fun little sparkle during the daytime as you walk across the drawbridge? Or have your picture taken on the walkways surrounding the Castle? Yeah, those fountains are nice!

You make some very valid points. And you are being very kind there at the end by hoping this serves as a lesson to TDO and Burbank. Because I no longer can trust them.

The problem here is that senior leadership in TDO and Burbank allowed all of this junk to happen in the first place. For a major event like the 50th. It's no longer a symbol or a warning sign or the canary in the coal mine, it's a blaring fire alarm going off in a crappy WalMart.

The people leading the parks now are either grossly incompetent, or drunk.
