Walt Disney Company 100 at [Cabochon] Disneyland

For the 100th anniversary, Disneyland Paris got a stage presentation with their park president, ambassadors, and 100 Disney characters marching through.

WDW got extra character meet and greets and photo ops.

Disneyland got... *crickets chirping*

NOTHING.

Not a darn thing.

At rope drop there was a mention in the park opening announcement of the 100th anniversary, but since I usually don't rope drop, that may have been running the entire past year and I wouldn't know. Other than that... no characters, no cavalcades, no appearances by Bob or Josh. Not even a one-day-only cupcake.

It was just... a huge letdown. Especially considering the early announcements that Disneyland was going to be the center of the anniversary celebration. So for the actual anniversary... yeah, I guess they forgot about it.

I personally don’t care that DL didn’t do anything on the actual day. Despite that, it appears that it indeed was the center of the celebration, in terms of the theme parks. We got two new nighttime shows, anniversary merchandise/food, and a new ride. I won’t complain.

I’m more concerned about the 70th in two years.

Uh, they got a freaking awesome fireworks show, a new WOC, and seemed to put more effort into celebrating the year than anyone else. So I'm not that bothered that they didn't do a whole lot for the actual day.

It's the new fiscal year this month. Maybe there's a routine changing of the guard for the TDA President Du Jour and so Mr. Bedrock didn't want to show up when he was being shown the door? Or maybe whoever is the current Disneyland Ambassador (Do they even do that any more? You never hear or see them any longer.) put in for a pre-approved vacation this week?

Or maybe they just forgot? Or didn't sell enough Lightning Lane A La Carte tickets to Mickey's Runaway Railway to cover the cost of the confetti cannons and $18 an hour Fullerton Junior College kids in animal suits for the 6 minute ceremony?

I wouldn't have taken such issue with it if Paris didn't do things like this on the day:

Hong Kong did this:

But Walt's original park couldn't be bothered to make a banner up and have some characters march behind it for two minutes. Or even just have a moment at the train station with Mickey and Minnie where Bob or Josh show up and say "Happy Anniversary" and then leave.

They didn't even have Oswald out at DCA.

Even the cast were disappointed nothing was happening for the day when I chatted with them.

I think they definitely should have acknowledged the day somehow. With that said, Disneyland definitely was the center of the celebration. Just weird to not do something on the actual day.

I'd rather keep Bob and Josh out of the parks. Don't need soulless businessman there to spoil the festivities. The world can only take so many clueless millionaires in suits cutting ribbons.

It's kind of hard to believe we are closer in time to the 75th right now than we are the 60th...

I think the 100th and the 75th are going to squeeze out the 70th ultimately. I'm sure there will be some merchandise and if we are lucky, a parade. But nothing like the 60th.
1000%. I actually wasn’t expecting anything for the 70th until they mentioned they were gearing up for it in one of those Disney 100 videos.

I’m hoping the 75th will be on the same level as DL’s 50th. Time is flying.

i honestly think that disney is at the point where they know they don't need huge milestone celebrations to get people to go to the parks. wdw's 50th started strong but then kinda sputtered by the beginning of 2022, disney100 is just kinda ending quietly less than a year in? the castle decor is being taken down, there's no official end date, everything's pretty much over at disneyland a week after what was supposed to be the day of, unless you go to WDW where the celebration will have lasted a measly 3 months.

so... i'm kinda worried about future celebrations if we've had two straight milestone anniversaries of... meh.

It's not about getting people into the parks, it's celebrating with the guests and taking pride in the company.
