News Walk Around the World Bricks to be removed around the Magic Kingdom and TTC

It's not just cheaper, it is much faster. Could you imagine the complaints if they spent a year with construction for a walkway??? My family has a brick there, but it is what it is. I would be more upset if they spent the time doing removing it rather than have it ready for our trip next year. Not to mention they are probably inlaid in concrete which means even if they do all that work, the bricks still may be cracked.
No concrete, that is the root of the problem. They are set in sand and it gets washed out so they have to be reset.

I’m not sure where people are getting the idea that these will be replaced with asphalt. The days of colored slurry are pretty much gone. It is very possible that any new hardscape could still utilize pavers. Even concrete is able to far more than a typical sidewalk.

How many would break if you tried to remove them?
If desired the bricks should be able to be removed and preserved. These types of walkway programs are carried out over years and have bricks added to them.

Speaking as someone who tripped on these on the daily because they had come loose or lifted up more on one side because of one reason or another, I say good riddance. This walkway needed to be ripped out years ago, they weren't maintaining it as it was.
I’m going to have to agree. My mom tripped on a loose one the last time we were there. Scraped her knee pretty bad but thankfully avoided what could have been a lot worse injury.

I’m actually in agreement with TDO that the MK entrance could do with a little reworking from a flow standpoint. The security machines too. Not to mention a smoother surface makes for more easy accessibility for those in wheelchairs/with walking aids.

I truly do get the sentimentality here. Those bricks made me smile. But they either needed much better maintenance (and fast) or to come out.

I purchased a brick in 1994. It was right when you came off of the Monorail. I do not remember being told that it would only be there for a set number of years, but I am not disputing it. In years past I would make a point to stop and see it, but the parks have gotten so crowded, I did not stop to see it on my last trip down. Probably will not go back for a couple of years, so I will never get to see it again. Sad.

I bought ours in 1994. Ours is right outside the Monorail entrance at MK which is between the Monorail and the MK gate. One helluva location between two small trees. I am heart broken to see it no longer there but thankful and amazed that it was there this long. We're talking 25 years! When I would have sworn the guarantee was for 10. I knew this day would come but it was the best $100+ (maybe it was $150) that we bought and have 0 regrets. I can't blame Disney for not being able to give me my original brick as it would be near impossible since they are cemented in.

Thank you Disney for letting me be apart of Disney World Property for 25 years.

When they repaved DLP a couple of years ago it took a while but really improved the look as the old personalised pavers were different shades, many were worn, broken and some replaced with blank mismatched ones. Hopefully all the area will be tidied up with the old bag check area removed and and any other clutter such as that used security marquee removed.

Excellent attitude. Love it.

Well, this is sad. I really liked seeing all the bricks whenever I go.

Last year, I couldn't find our wedding brick from 1998, I think it was gone. The numbers were all over the place and no longer in perfect order, clearly a bunch had been removed, destroyed, replaced or whatever.

I'm interested in the replica brick, any more info on that? Can we call already?

Isn’t there a (former) member of this forum that counts and documents the number of cars in the parking lots to determine occupancy and attendance??????
Len? He uses maths and sells it.

Speaking of which, I will gladly go document someone’s brick if they are willing to pay. I’ll take any major currency. Act fast and I’ll take a Live Photo for free.

Nooooo not @lentesta. I think the parking lot bandit overstayed his welcome around these parts and is not around anymore.

We’ve had our stone since 1994 and at the time we were told it was guaranteed for 10 years so for it to last 25 years is great. We took pictures of the stone every trip we made. It was to the right of the grey stones close to the entrance on the guest service side. Yes it was getting worn but still looked good.
My husband passed away last year so when I flew down with a friend in Dec we each placed a favorite picture of him next to the stone and took pictures. So glad I was able to that.
Any friends or family that went to MK always made a point of looking for it.
