I always seem to get an upset stomach when I come to Florida, it is not something that I normally suffer from and I am always careful what I eat when at WDW (ie nothing that I would not normally eat at home).

Last year I think that I visited every restroom at MGM often in a hurry!.

Any advice would be welcome as it is a shame when some days of your holiday are spoilt.

I have a verrry sensitive stomache and whenever i eat something i haven't really had before i always get an upset stomache so i can share your pain. What i do is always carry imodium (sp?) with me and take it before i eat and also if you don't have imodium with you just go to the nearest store and usually they have some kind of medicine that they sell that helps.....

It does ruin your trip but ive learned to just carry medicine with me or just eat what i know wont make my stomache upset :) Hope that helps!

On the plane when you fly over don't drink water unless it's in a can or a bottle.
Try drinking a beer also, with the idea that the alchohol will kill any bugs.

Also- maybe don't eat at the Rose and Crown.

Good luck
:)

i would see your doctor, maybe he could prescribe something
if you get sick while at the parks, go to the first aid station,
they have all the peptobismal and other medicine that could help
hope you have a holiday with out pain in your stomach

As someone who could be considered an expert in this area, here's some advice. Take immodium! It will keep you from running to the bathroom. If it's just nausea, try taking a ginger capsule. Motion sickness, also ginger or something like dramamine. I also find something like Tums or Rolaids can help in a pinch. For me, if I can stay away from carbonated drinks, it also helps. If you are someone who is sensitive to adapting to local water, be sure to not only drink bottled water but watch out for any drink with ice! Good luck!

Your upset tummy might be caused just by the change in the water, especially if you're from overseas. It isn't that the water is bad, just different and your sensitive tummy can't handle the new microbes.

I'm going to second the Immodium, that stuff works wonders. Liquid works faster than chews or pill, but those are easier to carry with you. They sell them in the shops at the resorts or you can get it at any drug store/grocery. Many gas stations even carry it.

You are not the only one it happens to. You are traveling (stress on the system) eating foods that may use different ingredients and drinking water that is different from home. Relax and try to enjoy your trip, keep the Immodium handy and you will probably need on one or two doses.

Imodium (the Advanced formula) is your friend! I've had this problem before, and now I don't travel without this remedy. I'm still trying to figure out my particular trigger, but until that happens I'll just treat the symptoms.

To echo everyone else, Immodium works wonders if you have a crabby stomach. I would also add that pepto also works really well for me too.

Do you ever drink or digest the tap water at all?
That could be the cause of it.
My sister gets sick every once in a while and it's caused by the tap water usually.

Sorry, this doesn't really help, but on one trip a few years ago, we were at Epcot and my then-teenage sister didn't... feel very well. I've heard of several people who "Eat Around the World", but my sister literally "Went to The Bathroom Around the World."

Whenever I travel, I always take a dose of Immodium in the morning whether I'm having trouble or not at the time. My system always acts up when I travel no matter how careful I am about what I eat and not drinking the water. A dose first thing, preferably liquid, helps keep the attacks away, and if you do have one during the day, try the chewable pills.

I always thing of those overactive bladder commercials "Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go RIGHT NOW!" :ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

I feel your pain completely! My digestive tract doesn't like to function properly (and I've had every medical test done to figure out why... still no clue) so here's what I suggest trying:

-like others have said, don't drink any water unless it's bottled! Our water here isn't bad but as mentioned, you're not used to it so that could be it. This includes anything you have on the plane as well
-that said, make you hydrate a lot with bottled water or a sports drink. It helps a lot. Especially stock up on sports drinks if you end up feeling poorly.
-stock up on food that you know you can eat. I tend to not eat any food in the parks, except at a few table service restaurants, and just eat what I bring. Sometimes it's just crackers, pretzels, things that are easy on tummies, etc, to get me through the day. Even if your stomach is upset, it's good to have something on hand that you know you can handle to help the blood sugar out
-get the Imodium as recommended on here. Personally, I avoid it but I do keep some prescription stuff in my purse for emergencies. I don't use anything because for me, it just seems to make me worse the next day, but that's because I have a special tummy haha.
-don't be afraid to go to your hotel midday and rest. You're probably not used to running around for long days (who is?) so all that exercise can bother stomachs as well. Not to mention the stress of traveling in general!

Good luck! I hope you feel well for your trip!

I'm fine when I'm actually on WDW property but the days leading up to my vacation I'm usually a wreck! Thats when travelers stomache decides to pay me a visit. Immodium is the best med (without a prescription) out there for it, it really does help! That and the adavan to help calm my nerves usually does the trick in a snap!

As others have said, it is probably the water if you are drinking tap water. We have really good water in Chicago, but the water in Orlando upsets my stomach.

I have IBS and a sensitive stomach, so I have unfortunately had many vacations affected by GI issues. These problems run in my family, so we have the advantage of knowing where the nearest restroom is at all times while in WDW (we're getting there with DL ).

Anyway, I have taken both Pepto and Immodium, and I can say that for just an upset stomach, Pepto works great (whether it's nausea or acid/indigestion). Dramamine is not only effective for motion sickness, but for nausea and vomiting as well (I always have a couple doses of all of these on hand when in the parks....it pays to be prepared!).

For, um, bathroom issues, Pepto really doesn't help me (if you are having both an upset stomach and the other, you can take both; however, my pharmacist said not to take them at the same time and recommended taking them an hour apart...I recommend checking with your doctor or pharmacist before combining meds).

In October, my aunt brought the new Immodium chewables. They were amazing and really saved the day! They worked within about 15 minutes for me, and I didn't need a second dose. Plus, you don't need water, which is a plus. They have now become a must-pack item for every trip. Also, I find that keeping mint Lifesavers or other mint candies can soothe an upset stomach, although it can make acid worse.

I also find that the combination of intense sun and heat (plus not drinking enough) can cause stomach upset. I'm careful to drink at least 8oz of something every hour, and I am so careful about balancing being outdoors with being inside in the A/C.

This may sound like a bit much, but there have been many trips where days have been ruined because of GI ailments. Bringing the right meds and taking precautions (like the great tips others have mentioned) can really minimize any inconvenience or suffering.

Next time you travel on a plane to Orlando / WDW, maybe try taking digestive enzymes with each meal you have on board your flight over. I find that can help prevent or help to minimize getting an upset stomach in the following days.

Hope you feel better soon!
