Updated TSMM On the Way?

The norm for me and POTC (not including the 6 months post refurb) has been 20-30 minutes on busy days.

If that's the case, maybe we actually just waited 30 minutes and it was posted higher (45?) because it definitely was a ton more people than usual in the summer. I have 30 in my mind. I hadn't waited outside like that since Christmas Day a few years ago.

So what was the time frame for the TSMM refurb? Where did you hear that this was cancelled?

I was under the impression that they would debut the new games in Tokyo, and then decide whether they wanted to implement them in DCA and DHS - was this further along than originally speculated?

The rumor for the downtime was to add gates to the unload area to prevent guests from coming to close to the moving cars and the track. From what I have heard, it can occasionally be a problem. However, I think someone was right that they can't justify closing down such a popular ride, especially if they feel that the problem isn't that common.

I thought there were air gates at the load area. I know there are railing to assign you to the rows.

When does Tokyo's TSMM open? Perhaps the plan would be to just put off installing the air gates until they upgrade the games.

When was the ride supposed to go down originally?

TSMM has air gates. Crews took measurements to also place air gates on the opposite side after guests unload. Occasionally they have to e-stop it because a guest comes back over the line after they get off.

So then the upcoming refurbishment that was canceled before it was officially announced was not to install gates at either load or unload but to do something else.

Am I the only one losing their mind reading this thread?

I think you might be.

Load and unload for TSMM is at the same place, so calling two different things is what might be confusing. On the side that you load, there are currently gates. However, when you get off, you just cross over a (yellow?) line on the floor and continue toward the exit. People (w/ kids) that are waiting for family members on another game tram wait right beyond the yellow line at the "unload area". Most of the time, a kid may go running to their family member before the ride vehicle stops, so the CM e-stops the tram.

The idea is to add gates on that side too, to prevent anyone from crossing back over. Then both sides would have air gates. I believe I heard that there was a crew that came in a while ago that took measurements for new gates on that side, but it now seems the refurb might not happen.

So the gates on the unload side would be the purpose of the canceled refurbishment. Still nothing about the new games addition being canceled.

Now back to your regularly scheduled TSMM thread.

I'm not positive that the gates were part of the refurb, but there were/are happening. (not positive if they will still happen or not)

The games probably would be placed overnight and wouldn't require a downtime, unless they had major issues with it overnight.

From the Blue Sky Disney Blog:
http://blueskydisney.blogspot.com/2010/03/blue-sky-buzz-toy-story-four.html

Come this summer, there will be something else though. When a new Toy Story film comes out on June 18th there will be an exciting surprise waiting for those in line to ride the attraction. New games. That's right, when you go inside to ride Mania after TS3 opens there will be whole new games to enjoy. The Imagineers have created a whole new collection of things to shoot with those pull string cannons for you to enjoy. It's also a way for Disney to test the strength's of the old games and see which ones fans like and which ones could just go away. There are no plans yet as to when they'll go away. It depends on how long those lines grow and how much time guest have to wait before a decision will be made to return the attraction to its original games. Should they prove popular, it could be quite sometime before you see them return.

Yeah, I got that vibe too - It just seems that these types of easy things are what TDO is all about.

They love Tower of Terror because they can re-program it, and call it a new offering, the same thing can be said about Toy Story Mania. All of the animatronic driven attractions are much harder to change that quickly.

Oh, no, I could totally see that happening.:brick: It depends on cost.

Hopefully RSox is right on how they would market it.

Hah... I hope I'm wrong. Because often times they'll do things like make a cheap inexpensive modification to a ride and use that to excuse not making major upgrades to things that need it, or parks that are in need of new attractions.

I hope so, too, especially for DHS, at this point.

That blog makes it seem like it might only happen at DCA but that's probably not the case, right?

You would think we would also get them, yet I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't. While many have claimed this could be done overnight, this information hints at a few days. This is probably more realistic as you would think a test and adjust period would be necessary as well as give them some time to clean up before reopening it as a "refreshed" attraction. Now if it has to be down at all, we know TDO could decide against the upgrade. Let's hope this gets pushed down from the higher-ups due to the movie tie-in. Then it's a sure thing IMHO.

It's supposed to be down for about a week-- after spring break peak is over. And while I'm not trained at Toy Story, and someone else could speak better for how intense it is... it takes a LOT of computing power to make that happen. Two computers in each car! And an entire server room to facilitate all the games. I'm not sure it's really as easy to switch out, add to, or whatever else with the actual games as it might seem.
