Updated TSMM On the Way?

The ride is basically a set of different games already. Adding to the number of possible games for each stop would be a relatively easy. This could be combined with the rumored RFID technology too so if your not a fan of Halloween, you don't get the overlay. They could also track witch versions you've played and make sure you get a new line-up the next time you ride.

I like the idea of RFID tech, but i would have to have a blocker too. I don't feel the need to have Disney track my every move.

Oh you have no idea really.

I'm feeling chippy today :D:lookaroun

RFID in TSMM @ DHS? There's a new one on me.

I really thinking it would be leaps and bounds cheaper to add different games to TSMM than it would have to replace the old Star Tours film. Essentially in TSMM all you're replacing is the on screen program the ride stays the same timing and all. With Star Tours you would have had to reprogram the whole ride to correlate with the timing of events in the new film. I am actually really glad they didn't do that and are now revamping the entire experience. As a HUGE Star Wars fan I can NOT wait to see what they have up their sleeves for this one. Maybe I'll just ride Star Tours 2.0 all day sometime just to get a bunch of the scenes.
But you are partially agreeing with me there. I said that Star Tours with just a new film would be a waste of money and effort. My point was and is, I feel that Toy Story Mania (I don't know why we keep calling it Midway Mania, it's only called that at DCA) with new games is just like Star Tours with nothing but a new film. As you say, the TSM ride would stay the same -- not that it's much of a ride to begin with, really. As with you, I'll be very excited to ride the new version of Star Tours precisely because it's going to be not just a new film, but a transformed experience.

Certainly, adding a new game to Toy Story Mania would be less expensive than other types of overlays like the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay at Disneyland's HM. But it wouldn't be free. I suppose people who ride TSM over and over would get a kick out of seeing a new game. But those are the people who, by definition, are still excited by the ride even after multiple experiences. I don't think anyone who is tired of the basic, and I do mean basic, concept of the experience is going to want to re-ride just with the opportunity to see a character from the new film introduce a game that is functionally identical to all the other forms of target practice the ride initially offered.

I also like the idea of having additional games and a randomizer of sorts so that although you may end with the same game each time, you won't get there the same way.

Nope. Our ride is Toy Story Midway Mania.

It's only why they put it on every sign...Console...Logo...Costume...And of course RIGHT IN YOUR FACE at the beginning of the attraction.

And no, the games changing completely for different vehicles is an idea that rightfully would never be adopted.

After all, these games are playsets. They exist in plastic, cardboard, and glass. They can't magically switch out, that's why all the games operate in the logistical world of Toys. The Games are static and have been set up just for you. The gametram travels to them. Putting them on Shuffle would essentially break all the hard work to making the Real World show design and on-screen action blend perfectly.

Why? Because the toys only have a set number of games that they can set up? Besides, I don't know what games other people are playing, so how does this create an inconsistent storyline?

what if one of the games was done like it was on a Nintendo DS or iPAD or something :lookaroun then based upon your current score you would get a different game for that round...

Because seeing a whole game set up completely changed in a few seconds is more than a little odd.

It's hard to tell from how well, Manic Midway Mania is, but the lengths gone to make it feel real is extraordinary. Such as the Doppelganger effect, preventing you from seeing the same character on both sides of the track. Dropping down a curtain and changing the set completely makes it seem more like a Video Game than an experience that you travel through. And since Day 1 of the concept, that's what they wanted it too feel like.

Just Bumping to note that they Canceled the Midway Mania rehab at the last minute. They just can't bring themselves to close a popular ride for anything around here, can they?
 :brick:

This doesn't dismiss any rumors, but still. There you have it.

That's a shame...But I could not fathom facing Studios without TSMM to mop up the crowds that came for it.

The Magic Kingdom was a MAD HOUSE when Space Mountain was closed last summer, but we all managed. And it isn't like TSMM would be closed for months

True..sorta...I never realized a difference in crowd levels for MK in August of all times.

Pirates of the Caribbean had a 30 minute wait when we were there on a average day in July. Once the newness of the Sparrow AA's wore off, it was basically a 5-10 minute wait during that time of the year.

I thought that was normal for summer. I remember being excited for such a short wait with 20...
