Yeah, but look, I understand why some people wish that WDW could get the Haunted Mansion overlay for Christmas. That turns the Disneyland version into a very different ride, with different characters, different settings, and so on. But it hardly seems worth it to make a new version of a TSM game such that I'm throwing bean bags at ghosts or something like that for Halloween. I mean, if you're already tired of pulling that string and knocking junk down -- and as you may have guessed, I was, even after the first ride -- differently themed versions of the same thing aren't going to make a difference.
I was just on that ride for the first time about a week ago. AMAZINGG.
What is difference between Toy Story 3 and the other movies?
I don't think it would be a bad thing, I'm just not sure it's an efficient use of resources. Honestly, when all is said and done, an overlay wouldn't be that cheap. I think there are lots of other ways to use the money that would be more bang for the buck.[...] Like I said, is the ride going to be a completely new experience? No, it's going to be the same dart-throwing, ball-tossing, ring-flinging 3D ride it's always been. I don't see why adding newer holiday overlays would be a bad thing. [...]It'd be like saying you weren't excited for the possibility of different Star Tours scenes every time you ride and that one beginning, middle, and end is enough.
That's what I've heard from two 'semi' reliable sources. And since another online site has mentioned it in passing as well, I'll toss it out too.
The story says TSMM will be 'updated and changed' to reflect the opening of Toy Story 3.
It's certainly possible. And Christmas and Halloween versions have been in the pipeline.
The only caveat here is Disney often touts technology that can easily be changed (see Star Tours). And it never is.
I wonder if they could head towards a "Random" game experience, where you have several games for each character (or even different characters) that are randomly chosen for your ride. I think with the technology it would seem entirely possible, and could be an easy change with no real prep work...
Or they could leave it as it is:lookaroun
DisneyLD- It is rumored that the Bo Peeps Balloon Pop game is being replaced by a game promoting Toy Story 3.
That's all I can say, feel free to speculate the rest.
Again, this is info passed onto me from a reliable source, and this is always subject to change. The way Disney has been promoting its upcoming movies in the parks (Princess and the Frog anyone?) I'm sure this will happen.
Cool stuff, hope it does get them.
And Servo- if it's just for a few days, I hope they clean up the queue a little bit...It was a tad battered.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a planned rehab/cleaning/freshen-up time period coming up. And I've heard the rumors about TS3 being incorporated.
But my biggest question is, well... is there really time to get that much information while you are in the ride? I mean, things like "understanding their personality" aren't really possible when all they are doing is introducing a game, right? They're on screen for like... 2.4 seconds. Then you play. Then they swing you around to something else. The queue would be a better opportunity to "know" any characters. Mr. Potato Head is the one you really "meet."
I just don't think the ride time allows you enough opportunity to make a difference to which character is hosting what game. It would be an appearance, and whoop-de-doo... but who cares?
Would it be unreasonable to retrofit the in car monitors to be touch screens? This could allow you to choose which games you want to play.
I don't think it would be a bad thing, I'm just not sure it's an efficient use of resources. Honestly, when all is said and done, an overlay wouldn't be that cheap. I think there are lots of other ways to use the money that would be more bang for the buck.
I feel the same way about Star Tours, if all we were talking about was the film. What I hear is they we're getting not just new film, but 3-D, the top opening up and something happening above us, in-car effects, and so on. Plus each of the various films in the new Star Tours presumably will have a different ride and feel to it. But it's no surprise that they never simply changed out the film for another one, as they originally promised, because that would be similar to what I'm talking about with Toy Story Mania: reasonably costly, and wouldn't enhance the ride very much. "Original" Star Tours, and a "new film but otherwise exactly the same" Star Tours would be less distinguished than Star Tours and Body Wars were. So I'm glad that they never changed the film out and waited until they were ready to completely redesign the ride -- assuming they actually do it, I'm always wary until it actually happens...
