If Disney was in the process of signing a contract with two entities for rights to use a property as popular as Lord of the Rings, you can bet that it would be multi-faceted. That is, you can bet that there would be more than one product in the parks from that property.

Of course, that's a big if...

Star Wars is even bigger and there is only Star Tours....

I definately like some of these rumors.

The thing about the GMR is, don't get rid of the Alien scene! That's one of my favourites. If they're going to get rid of a scene and replace it with Pirates, then replace the Tarzan scene.

For some reason ... I don't think an Imagineer (which is what it looks like he is claiming to be) would misspell Disney. Especially in a username.

Maybe its just me.

The info is interesting, but I'm doubting its authenticity.

Oh please, adding a new scene to the GMR isn't going to "counter-act" the Harry Potter-land at Universal....

I immediately thought he was referring to LOTR when he said "counter-act" Potter. I agree that one scene couldn't do it, but I also question how Pirates and Potter are competing franchises (just because they're both recent blockbusters does not mean they draw the same fanboys). If it's a scene from LOTR, I would think that more LOTR is in the works for the parks. But then again, I really doubt the poster, we've seen so many types like this--have one nugget of valid information, and try to weave a tapestry of projects around that.

I also thought of LotR right off the bat, and never even considered Pirates until it was mentioned here. While it's obvious that it would be easier and more feasible than going for the LotR rights, do you really think they'll just settle for Pirates? We're talking about a franchise that is already based on a full-length AA ride...which still exists in Magic Kingdom. There is absolutely no need to create a single scene from Pirates for GMR when the full ride is as popular as ever and now even includes movie elements.

I'll stand by my initial feeling that it's LotR. Might cost more money, but it makes more sense creatively than Pirates does...not to mention it fits better with the "Potter Swatter" description (same genre, plus the parks are already full of Pirates and one more scene in GMR would not be original enough to be described as a reaction to HP at Universal).

I will never give you additional information, only one post and it will not be often. I like this site, I like the fans, and I like creating a buzz. As you see my statements come true, you will come to respect my info from the soon-to-be WED Enterprises.

For today:

- Haunted Mansion is receiving major refurbs at Magic Kingdom. In an effort to separate it from DL HM, the Florida iteration, and to increase its re-ride numbers, it is receiving an upgrade that will allow it to be "more haunting" when the sun goes down. Additions will also go to the classic daytime ride, but much of the work is going to a spookier flavor of the night.

- Typhoon Lagoon is receiving a new series of themed waterslides adjacent to Crush'n Gusher (the area currently referred to as the "boneyard" by CMs). The plans have been finalized for some time, but management delayed the construction due to the upper-brass considering what many considered an ill-fated third waterpark.

- Toy Story Mania development has already hit several snags. The biggest snag is that the "videogame" sections are not up to the bar imagineers had originally set. You can expect a delay in TSM's opening date as Lasseter is rumored to be willing to up the budget to ensure that the WDW Toy Story ride is a real E-Ticket attraction. Many imagineers are still very skeptical about the game segments and are hoping for a complete overhaul.

- Two HUGE additions coming to The Great Movie Ride in Disney MGM Studios. First, the Footlight Parade section is going to be receiving a refurb for restoration to its original grandeur. Some modifications will be included in order to prevent the maintenance requirements previously brought on by the scene. Second, the entire Alien scene is going the way of the dodo. In its place will be a scene from a recent trilogy, along with new dialogue for the hijacker who will fall for the alure of a certain piece of jewelry in the scene. You can expect some big PR buzz about the latter as some are already calling it the "Potter-swatter." Obviously its just one of several additions Disney views as having a significant response to any additions other theme parks or resorts may be featuring.

Now have yourself a grain of salt.
Do you know when the additions to The Great Movie Ride will take place?
I hope it's not closed in Sept.!

I would rule out any Pirate references in GMR.

Why? Because why would you glorify a movie in an attraction that is based off of an attraction that you own approx. 5 miles away?
Just go to the real deal... with movie enhancements already in place.

(Mary Poppins... the only other Disney movie scene in GMR... does not have an attraction)

Based on the "recent trilogy" reference, Disney could also create a Spiderman scene on the GMR because they just signed Stan Lee. I'm not sure what rights Univer- I mean the U-place has on the Spiderman characters though. Also Spiderman wouldn't fit the "jewelry" reference unless it is Aunt May's ring which he tries to catch in mid-air on his fight with the New Green Goblin and gives to Mary Jane in 3 (highly unlikely).

My bet is on LotR.

I have to say this newbie does have some believable stuff in his posts, but i don't know if it is actually credible, it sounds credible but you never know. I guess we will have to wait and see!
