Unsettling “security” checks.

Yes the 4th
........via the 14th if we are talking about Florida law enforcement personnel as well as those acting as agents of law enforcement as opposed to central gov't creatures like an FBI.
Absolutely. I was trying not to get too detailed - the original threads on this subject started to look like law school classes.

Sorry but the reality is security or no security Disney will pay if something goes down. If you think doing this insulates it from liability, then you have not been paying attention the last 30 plus years.
They would probably pay a lot more if they did not have a security check any lawyers out there voice an opinion

Folks have to understand that this is a practice taken up by other major hotel chains across the world. Chains like Hilton have instituted the same policy that the room will be visually inspected at least once every 24 hours. This is not just something Disney is doing; it's happening throughout the hospitality industry and across the nation.

This is also the sort of policy that is focused on safety of the guests and the property and no amount of complaining is going to stop it. Safety is always the highest priority and it should be. Just because you never had to do it in the past is irrelevant. We live in a different world unfortunately, and this is the new norm in a growing segment of the hospitality industry just like security checks entering the parks that you didn't have to worry about in the past. And if you are the guest who starts aggressively pushing back on the practice the reality is they are going to start asking what you are trying to hide. You don't have to be actually trying to hide anything but if you push back too hard, they are going to ask why. If you try to do something that obstructs their access to the room you are going to end up raising suspicion that you are trying to hide something and the whole thing is likely to escalate.

This is private property and for the safety of the guests, their property and their brand reputation they are 100% within their rights to institute this policy. When you checked into the resort you agreed to abide by all of their policies. And if you as a guest are unable to live within those boundaries there are other choices in the marketplace you can choose that do not have similar policies. But you should understand that the number of places without those policies in place is getting smaller and smaller as this becomes normal practice in the hospitality industry.
Again.

My problem with the actual security check is my personal feeling about it. And yes, I realize Disney is in fact the owner of the property and can make the rules they choose.

The bigger rub in the situation was the repeated disregard for the door placard which by Disney’s own voice stated: if the door sign is out we will make arraignments via the phone to schedule a room check. This was repeatedly ignored and our “moments” (whatever they may be under the letter of the law) in our room were disturbed. Over and over again at two separate resorts.

Just wrapping up a split stay (Kidani/Poly) this week. Along the way we were notified at both resorts of the daily trash service that is really a security check (a search of your room and belongings for weapons)

This is no doubt in response to Las Vegas. I’m a realist and can understand the policy although it is security theatre at best. I’ve also been a bit put off at the level of absolute disregard for our privacy. There is still a placard on the door though now it says room occupied in lieu of do not disturb and let me tell you we were disturbed 4 out of six days. We are early risers and love the afternoon swim and nap before assessing the evening plans. Four times we were woken up by a cast member entering our room without permission through the room occupied sign. I should have prefaced this with the info that is passed on to guests stating if you put the sign out this then triggers housekeeping (yes housekeeping does the “security check” not actual security) to bypass your room and place a phone call to arrange their entry to complete the Security check. Our sign was put out every day and not one day were we called on the days we were away, they came in anyway. On the days we were there pleasantly slumbering and were awoken, we politely told them we don’t want the trash service and assured them all was ok; only to find our trash emptied later that night.

We have teen aged children who we allow to stay in the room at times and now we have to worry about a total stranger from housekeeping coming in weather we want them pet not.

This policy does not make me feel more secure, in fact, we have never felt less confident in our private space here in WDW than we did I this week.

Perhaps they should just search my vehicle and luggage upon arrival and leave my room alone. Those in charge of this ridiculous policy might also actually search the rooms and maybe just maybe rethink the newest cash grab that has come in the form of the start wars lightsaber and staff cases I’ve see every day that 100% could house an actual weapon.
It has been stated by many people both recent and in history that when we are saddled with fear we will give away our rights including privacy. They have already won!

Just a question though... did you check in wearing camouflage and combat boots? That might explain the attention to your room.

This policy has much more of an impact on the people who spend time in their rooms mid-day in between park visits. My family will most likely not even know that someone was in our room, as we are out of the room by 8:00 am and do not return until after 9:00 pm every day.

I've never understood why people skip the cleaning service. It's paid for! Yes, I travel with valuables and simply stash them away. Lock your suitcase if you're worried. I'm happy to see the ladies vacuum and change the sheets / towels and always leave a nice tip and sometimes a thank you note. It's a small kindness for people working to give me a better experience. As a bonus it has resulted in extras like pin sets for us...

The cleaning ladies are trying to make a living and I like a tidy room. A win-win... And security will never bother you.

Ummm there are men housekeepers

If that is what you room tag stated it was different from everyone else's.

"The Disney hotel and it's staff reserve the right to enter your room, even when this sign is displayed for maintenance, safety, security, or any other purpose. The Disney Resort hotel staff with knock an announce their presence before entering".

The last several times, there was a letter on the bed explaining the room check policy and offering to schedule a time if that was what you wanted. But I don't remember any wording about not ever knocking if the room occupied sign is out.

Same. It's the only time you can get someone else to clean up after you uess you have a service at home. Use it! And also, there's a safe in the room, so you can lock your wallet. I stuff my laptop in a drawer and it's always fine.

You know what's funny?
In 35 years of traveling we have never stayed anywhere involving a room security check. When we stay in hotels for an extended period we always ask that the cleaning staff to not come by. We can clean up after ourselves. We have never been woken or knocked on.
This new world you speak of sounds very paranoid.

This practice is definitely not done anywhere in Canada. So crazy......
Pretty common in larger markets like NYC nowadays.

I just got back from CSR. Got my $10/day resort credit. Didn't notice/wasn't inconvenienced by the room checks at all. In fact. One of the few times nobody even knocked on my door (at least when I was in my room)......plus nothing went missing.

I guess I find this thread weird. I am rarely in my room during the day but even if I were... All it takes is one bad nut, as evidenced by Vegas. (I’ve stayed in Mandalay Bay and it was quite surreal to see that news report).

Obviously, Disney needs to be a little better in doing their call thing that the OP was on about, but as to the security checks themselves, it’s something I’m not going to get in a tiff about.

We live in a society where there is a mass shooting nearly every month. There’s the occasional news report about someone ‘accidentally’ bringing a gun to the park entrance. The point about human trafficking someone made.... I live in an area you’d never think it’d happen, but the ‘upscale’ is sometimes just an easier mask to hide behind, as evidenced by a recent news story.

So I’m not even sure why anyone finds these security checks surprising... welcome to the good ol’ US of A. For better, or worse.

EXACTLY.
And to me when you understand the why it makes it easier to take at least in my opinion.
Just like TSA its annoying security theater and they miss important stuff and then stop me for an ankle tattoo of Figment and purple ink has metal in it.
I know its just my tattoo and its annoying that I get a pat down every time even after saying I'll pull up my pant leg so you can actually SEE what's under there but I also understand they need to cover their butt so they will still be patting me down.
What's always funny is when I'm wearing shorts and they say WAIT and then they say oh obviously you have nothing on your ankle. Carry on.
I got patted down and wiped for bomb residue because my pants were bejeweled on the back pockets and they were detected by the swirly machine at Orlando airport. They showed me the scan and my butt was glowing.

Last December my crotch was glowing lol. I was wearing leggings so not much I could have been hiding. I think it could have been that they were velvet and maybe the texture or shine somehow prompted it. It was kinda embarrassing to stand there and have a woman feel my private area with the back of her hand. She obviously wasnt going to find anything.

Let's be realistic please. The drugged out beaten girls selling themselves are showcased in the movies to show this sad way of life. Does one think all these girls work for themselves? They owe someone a debt of something such as "welcome to the USA, now start paying your debt off"..
Here... you want some realism? Disney trains people to look for signs of trafficking... and that's a good thing.

and it's not just the sex trade...
