COP wasn't for about a year, but recently it has been put back on the list. However, it has yet to close since that change.

Yensid "COP could use some TLC" tlaw1969

COP was closed when I was there before Christmas, but opened by the end of the week when the Christmas crowds arrived.

Well, the UoE pavillion has widely been rumored to be replaced... most think it would be with a Monster's Inc. ride.

When is the Test Track re-hab and what will be done during the rehab?

I hope the Monsters Inc ride remains simply a rumor. Monster Inc has no business being in Epcot. It best belongs in MGM.

Agreed.

Stop trying to make Epcot more "kid-friendly" and leave it the way it is! :zipit:

This is why many fans love Epcot with a passion ..it's more for the "adult" crowd while MK is more for the families and kids.

I love Epcot because of how it doesn't pander so much to the kids, but I do think UoE needs a big change. The Ellen thing was only funny the first time, and the dinosaurs feel tacked on to the video- the two have almost nothing to do with each other. Plus, the dinos are incredibly dated. I think a Monters Inc ride is a terrible idea, but Energy does need a tasteful change.

They explain why they have the dinos in the movie. It's where the fossil fuels come from. I have to disagree that the dinos look dated. While they are old, I think they've held up pretty well. They don't look horrible like some of the other old AAs.

Grrrrrr....

All the reason for people to get all the music they can out of that ride before it shuts down! SOMEONE, get the music when they load the vehicles! It's the best!

The Test Track rehab is listed on the homepage of this website. It lists all rehabs and park opening times and is a good reference so we don't keep rehashing and rehashing here in the forums. Please read. As to Universe of Energy, it is woefully outdated, and I do not imagine that they will redo this attraction. It does make sense for them to replace it with something else; perhaps even with similar theming. Still - we can do all the speculating and rumoring and complaining here that we want. Until Disney announces a change, that is all it is -- rumors, speculation, and complaints.

It is great. You can find a great quality download of the piece over at the sound of magic.

Oops! Mybad.

Thanks - but this doesn't state what will be done during the re-hab, does anyone know this?

Seems to be just a general rehab... Track is being worked on extensively, lots of painting, and all of the cars are getting a lot of TLC. It is set to re-open Feb. 15th.

As far as this UoE rumor goes... I don't see it closing AT LEAST until TT is back open, but even then I'm not sure just how soon we'd see it going seasonal because it still is fairly popular... I work at The Land and get countless questions every day from guests about where they can find "that ride with the dinosaurs."

personally... it is the one classic EPCOT attraction i will not cry for... loved the diorama... other than that it died when it became ellens energy adventure. there are new sources of energy and new technology that would be better placed in Future World.

That's sad...I really like UoE. They should only have one pavillion closed at a time while they update them...get Wonders of Life switched over. Honestly, with all these rumors of things closing at Epcot, I'm getting very incredulous. They are not about to close WoL, UoE, Mexico, Canada, and France until fall 2007...especially now that we have our Pixar pals working for Disney, now...no more of this garbage.

NRG an endangered species

I've seen this coming for a while, though I hoped it we could hold on to Energy for a while longer. The Ellen version absolutely pales in comparison to the original, but it still features the groundbreaking Traveling Theater (to me, the ride system alone still makes it worth the trip, nearly 25 years later!), the grand spaces, and the "big show" elements that made the original EPCOT attractions so great.

But it only takes a quick look around to see that classic EPCOT Center attractions are an endangered species. Energy, Spaceship, and Living with the Land are the only attractions to retain any vestiges of their original selves. Spaceship in on life support, and if it's retained more-or-less as-is, it'll be because of the daunting logistics of rehabbing the attraction within the unique and limiting structure; and perhaps because of it's position within the park.

Living with the Land is probably on borrowed time, because--even though it "seems" self-supporting, it's not. They use some of the produce grown there (not all of it is edible, due to extensive pesticide use), but it's far from cost-effective to grow. In fact, I've heard the costs are quite astronomical. Probably the only thing keeping it going, is Disney's contract with Nestle.

That leaves Energy. Sponsorless, high-maintenance, and dated with the Ellen theme, it's ripe for either complete closure (under the guise of "seasonal" operation) or the continued Pixarization of the park. I knew that when Exxon pulled out, its days were numbered.

Since then, I'd also heard of Imagineers visiting the site, presumably to look at its potential to hold another attraction. I'd like to think it would get a freshening instead, but it's unlikely. Much as I hate to admit it, it doesn't fit in Epcot now, not with the mix-mash of largely vapid and pointless attractions that have taken over Future World.

Once it's gone, there won't be much reason for me to visit Epcot again. The only things that might bring me back--for an hour or so--would be Spaceship and El Rio de Tiempo (whose days are also numbered, I'm afraid).

Whatever they do to, the spirit of Universe of Energy will live on in EPCOT's Universe of Energy Companion site. If you have a hankering for the Energy that was--and may soon be lost--I invite you to stop by.

I wish you were right, however, I got to actually see a memo sent over disney communications via a blackberry two way device, about said changes.

Sad day when Disney can't keep its rides open all year.

Maybe they will change their minds, we can all be hopefull

mind telling whos blackberry you saw it on, because Disney can trace it back to that person as well and he or she will be fired

my point is not how bad the AAs themselves are (even though they arent that good), but how badly portrayed the dinosaurs themselves are- tail-dragging dumb slow drooling beasts, living in swamps to support their own body weight. UoE is a huge capacity ride that is rarely even close to capacity, the ride vehicles are expensive to maintain, and nobody's supporting it financially. It's nearly gone, go see it while its still there.

oh, and the music was on the official 2005 album, along with a bunch of other great extinct songs.

I love the music from UoE, it is another piece of very powerful music like so many other songs at Epcot.

I think that U of E will just be closed for refurbishment, perhaps changing the theming. With all of the other Epcot attractions that will be closed or being repaired/refurbished, it makes good business sense to have Energy working while TT is down, for example, and then as soon as its functional, to shut down U of E.
On a funny note, my kids always refer to it as the ride with "the lesbian in jeopardy... with dinosaurs!" They still find it a fun ride/show.

I still enjoy how grandiose the ride is. The extended pre-show story, the large ride vehicles and show building, the huge AAs, etc. It is indeed one of the last vestiges of classic Epcot. If it is to be replaced, however, I won't cry about it --- as long as they put another slow moving dark ride in it's place. We don't need any more fast, thrill type rides in Epcot .. we need more dark rides!
