United Kingdom at Epcot to Celebrate the Royal Wedding...

I was completed obsessed with the Charles/Diana wedding way back when because I am the same age as Prince Charles and just felt a connection somehow. I am a big traditionalist so the Pomp and Circumstance really intrigued me. My ancestors came from England (maiden name was Dexter) in the mid 1600's so maybe the fascination is in my blood - literally. This wedding of William and Kate has not captured my full attention yet though as his father's did, but today I am getting more into it and I do plan to watch the tv coverage of it.

My take on the whole Royals thing is this - it is an historical and traditional part of England and is what makes England-England. It is kind of the difference between a Six Flags and Disney. Without the spirit and influence of Disney, the Disney Parks would not be "Theme" parks, they would just be a fancy carnival. England without the Royals would be like a fancy city with old architecture and some nice countryside.

Best wishes to the happy couple. They seem well rounded for this more modern culture that the Royals will have to be part of. Queen Elizabeth is still a very vital lady and has seen a lot of historic events during her reign and it will be interesting to see how the succession for the throne plays out in the future. My sincere blessings to the Royal Family and all of England on this happy occasion![/QUOTE]

Nice sentiment. I was only 4 when Diana & Charles married but remember it well! Diana was my favourite royal. I went to Kensington Palace the night they brought her body ready for the funeral. Saw the car with the coffin go by with Charles and the boys in the car behind. The whole of Kensington garden was covered in flowers and candles. Very sad. I will shut up now as someone is bound to take the p--s out of me!

It isn't a net cost to the taxpayer.... tourism that the Royal family generate and the subsequent tax income far exceed what the Royal family take from the taxes (which is minuscule anyway).

Estimate to cost each British taxpayer One Pound per year.
That's a lot of bang for the 'pound'.

It is extremely huge because:
A. He will be the future king.
B. Princess Diana's Son
C. Royal Wedding
D. The people of England love him
E. People love Fairy Tale weddings.
F. Many more but I am giving up.

Since England pays for a Royal family they should pay for an evil queen as well. That would be much more exciting for the rest of the world. And if the royal couple can get through all of her attempts to derail them as a couple we get our once in a generation wedding. Thrilling.

True. I thought as DISNEY fans we would "get" why England and the media is so hyped for this event. I'm an american and heck even I'm kinda excited. This is like a real life fairytale. Fantasyland type stuff (sort of?). I really hope it's like something out of a movie. If not I'd be disappointed. It's got me interested I'll tell you that. My wife gets mad cause she's like "you weren't even that excited for our wedding". LOL yes I was :animwink:

For a moment there you sounded like an American.

Of course the references to England in the quoted posts should actually read United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland).

I stand corrected. I have Irish and Welsh in me, too and our son-in-law has the Scotch. I just jumped to conclusions because Elizabeth is usually referred to as the Queen of England. My mistake and please don't throw me in the Tower of London (just kidding!) http://forums.wdwmagic.com/images/smilies/r.gif By the way my last name is King - I am just all over this whole subject (pun intended)!

Yes, FOX News is not very informed on anything, and are arrogantly glib about it to boot. Was Glen Beck doing color commentating by the way?

Used to love the BBMF in fly pasts, saw them plenty as I was at Northolt for nearly 10 years.

I have a passion for WW2 aircraft (and others!) so this was amazing. Duxford is one of my favourite places in the world (other than WDW) the rumble of a lancaster is the best feeling.

My last tour was as an instructor at Cosford, and we used to take our students to the museum on the airfield every other week. Between that and having free access to the Iron Bridge and Black Country museums it was a hard life. :ROFLOL:

I used to enjoy watching the U2s when I lived near Alconbury.
