Because a Prince is marrying a princess...... why the hoopla?? People love the idea of a fairy tale princes and princess riding into the sunset. It's the same reason Dinsey's princess movies generate so much moola. The same reason they just built the the Beasts castle, developed a new Snow white ride and are putting the finishing touches on Ariels new pad. The same reason they just announced princess themed rooms at the resort.

Love them or hate them... the world loves their happily every after and it all starts with a prince and a princess. Never a King and Queen... we don't care about them... LOL

True. I thought as DISNEY fans we would "get" why England and the media is so hyped for this event. I'm an american and heck even I'm kinda excited. This is like a real life fairytale. Fantasyland type stuff (sort of?). I really hope it's like something out of a movie. If not I'd be disappointed. It's got me interested I'll tell you that. My wife gets mad cause she's like "you weren't even that excited for our wedding". LOL yes I was :animwink:

As for getting rid of the royals, I would rather they did this and saved taxpayers money for important things such as better education and better healthcare!!
Just my opinion

For a moment there you sounded like an American.

Since England pays for a Royal family they should pay for an evil queen as well. That would be much more exciting for the rest of the world. And if the royal couple can get through all of her attempts to derail them as a couple we get our once in a generation wedding. Thrilling.

Is this thread turning into the equivalent of an "I hate Bush, I hate Obama" type of American conversation, only spoken by members of the UK? Or perhaps a Red Sox vs. Yankees type of thing? In any case, I share no excitement for the wedding, but I certainly wish the young couple a very long and happy marriage.

Yay! An excited American! Great to have you on side. :sohappy: I'm not particulary a royalist but I'm not keen on foreigners having a go at the royal family, it's just a pet peeve.

Given your comments about castles Ill assume you are testament as to why we need to spend more on education. I was going to point out that the monarch would ultimately be replaced by another form of head of state and they tend to cost so much more, but that would probably be too much info to compute.

Ahh Pumbas, I was waiting on your input.
Not a thread goes by without a sarky comment by your good self.

As for castles, I didnt mention anything about castles - I was merely referring to everything else the person said (cant remember who it was now - my mind is just so jam packed with education!!!:p:ROFLOL:)

definitely not a hater, just couldnt care less and a waste of money!
The sooner its over and normal telly resumes the better:ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

As an American I always liked the Queen.

I was one of countless troops inspected by the Royal Couple during one of their numerous visits to Washington during the Reagan administration. Her Royal Highness walked right by me, but Prince Phillip looked at my Vietnam Era “fruit salad,” Combat Infantrymen’s Badge, Jump Wings etc displayed on my uniform. He stopped for a moment and shook my hand. It made feel like a million bucks.

I say good to luck to the young couple.

And I say, "thank you", for your fine service to your Country!

Oh don't worry. Tons of Americans are excited. Every other channel on television has been covering the Royal Wedding for a couple of weeks now it seems.

Obviously, or why would you go to the bother of noticing what I post? Or perhaps you are a stalker?

But thanks for noticing, it makes my life complete.

Aww no, I've been rumbled!!:lol::lol:

FYI - in your public profile, you may want to change your favourite parade to "Alexandra" - im assuming thats what you mean :p

I was completed obsessed with the Charles/Diana wedding way back when because I am the same age as Prince Charles and just felt a connection somehow. I am a big traditionalist so the Pomp and Circumstance really intrigued me. My ancestors came from England (maiden name was Dexter) in the mid 1600's so maybe the fascination is in my blood - literally. This wedding of William and Kate has not captured my full attention yet though as his father's did, but today I am getting more into it and I do plan to watch the tv coverage of it.

My take on the whole Royals thing is this - it is an historical and traditional part of England and is what makes England-England. It is kind of the difference between a Six Flags and Disney. Without the spirit and influence of Disney, the Disney Parks would not be "Theme" parks, they would just be a fancy carnival. England without the Royals would be like a fancy city with old architecture and some nice countryside.

Best wishes to the happy couple. They seem well rounded for this more modern culture that the Royals will have to be part of. Queen Elizabeth is still a very vital lady and has seen a lot of historic events during her reign and it will be interesting to see how the succession for the throne plays out in the future. My sincere blessings to the Royal Family and all of England on this happy occasion!

I can't understand for the life of me why anyone cares so much about this wedding.

Right?!? Last night one of the news stations was touring Kate's childhood apartment and then they were already reporting on their first child being named Diana.

I mean, give me a break already. All I care about is seeing the wedding dress but I'll catch it on the bazillion repeats through the day.

Big day for ENGLAND maybe!!
The majority of the rest of the UK couldn't give a damn, its just costing us as taxpayers!!
It isn't a net cost to the taxpayer.... tourism that the Royal family generate and the subsequent tax income far exceed what the Royal family take from the taxes (which is minuscule anyway).
