UGG - now we have a date change...Sept vs. Oct.

My dear husband, calls me from work last night to confirm our days (October 4-11th) to be sure he takes the right days of vacation when discovered it won't fit with his schedule, which means we have to either two weeks later (not value season, but during halloween celebration) or two weeks earlier.

Is that going to make any kind of impact on our stay, either weather or crowds wise? I am thinking that the chance for hurricane stuff will be worse in Mid-Sept, right? Hoping that it won't affect our trip in a bad way... maybe it's actually a good thing. Hmmmm.

Thanks, Danielle

Wow, nobody replied.

Here are my thoughts:

Weather differences between September and October: negligeable (sp?).
Both are within the Hurricane season (September tends to be more active than October, but you can't predict weather).

Crowds: The worst time of those two months involves Columbus Day weekend (monday October 10). Other than that, the crowds will be higher on weekends (locals show up while the weather is good) but mostly dead during the week.

We arrive (I think) the 16th to avoid Columbus Day, but still experience Halloween (Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is a BLAST).

After making recurring visits in October around the 3rd or 4th week of the month, we now have been going in September each year due to October becoming more busy than it was a few years ago. The crowds are not that bad then, but September is great. As for the hurricane thing, I agree with the last post. Both months are in hurricane season and you cannot predict when will have activity. You have to take your chances. We once went to WDW in November thinking it was so late in the hurricane season we would be ok, but there was one churning off the coast of Florida anyway. Our last trip in September we left home the day after Hurricane Ivan hit us and left WDW as Hurricane Jeanne was to strike, but I still would take September.

We have been there both in Sept and Oct. Both were great times to go but Sept was less crowded. We loved the MNSSHP in October and the temps were slightly cooler. You really cant go wrong with either time, as long as you avoid the holiday weekends.

What about the end of Sept, first of Oct. That way you still get a value rate and you can enjoy Food and Wine fest (Sept 30-Nov 13) and MNSSHP (first part of Oct., dates have not been released yet but it is usually around the 1st Friday) My husband and I have decided to go Sept 29 - Oct 8. That way we can enjoy everything and leave town by the time the crowds hit for Columbus day.

We are arriving on Oct 1 and our first day at the parks will be Oct 2. I have asked in a number of forums and this seems to be a good time to go. We got a great rate at a condo in the area ($264 for a week!) and I have been told the weather is ok with a short shower from time to time, but still warm, not hot.

That is a great rate! How did you find that?

The rate is actually for military, but according to the site I went to, vouchers can be bought and GIVEN to others (family, friends, etc) but they cannot be resold.

I looked into tha available condos and they truly seem pretty decent. The one we are getting has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths.

Aside from the first two weeks in December; the weekend after Labor Day was an absolute ghost town when I went. October seemed to get more and more crowded every time I would go. As far as hurricanes go; the chances of Florida getting hit majorly like 2004 is far out. And we can't put our lives off because of seasons. The old folks around here say that we (New Orleans) are in for the 'big one' because it's been 40 years since a major storm hit. However, we can't plan for just in case......

There are positives with either time.
End of September gives you the better rate as you know. If you do lapse into the first few days of October, you can still do MNNSHP (the first ones may be Oct 1 or 2) as well as the start of Food and Wine.

I personally would want to catch those two events if you are travelling that time of year.

Mid to late October I feel is a little cooler than Sept., so from the comfort factor, that may be an advantage.

Bottom line is going either time is a whole heck of a lot better than not going!
