did they destroy anything to build this? or is it being built in that beach area between crush n gusher and shark reef?

I'm still disappointed that they choose to close the shark reef, it was a unique attraction not found elsewhere

i'd be curious to know the real reason they decided to close it

It's being built on land that was primary backstage space.

Unusual, yes, but not unprecedented. Mammoth at Holiday World (a similar "family" style waterpark raft ride) utilizes a lift where guests ride in the raft up the lift hill. Mammoth was built by the company ProSlide and Disney has worked EXTENSIVELY with ProSlide in the past (in fact, all the slides at Blizzard Beach are apparently built by ProSlide [http://www.proslide.com/about-us/innovation-timeline/]. As such, it would make sense that this is a ProSlide attraction and thus guests riding in rafts up the lift would be proven already by the manufacturer.

Ground level loading also allows the ride to be ADA compliant (additionally, when you count the amount of time your on the lift in the length of the ride time, it makes a 30 second ride into a multi-minute ride which allows Disney to advertise the ride as being one of their longest ride duration water rides).

ProSlide confirmed on Twitter that this is one of their rides: https://twitter.com/ProSlideTech/status/832229316884836353

If you've ever wondered where water slides come from... well it's a small factory next to the highway in Quebec.

Assuming a similar rate of decent as Teamboat Springs at BB, I would guess this will clock in at about 45 seconds

That was indeed where Proslide got their start, in an old Fiberglass Yacht hull plant. They grew out of it so fast that it is now used as their Logistics and shipping warehouse while the Fiberglass pieces is built in a few plants around Ontario. The headquarter and design center is in Ottawa.

For fun, here is a picture I took last year of Proslide first ever Water Slide, built at Parc Aquatique du Mont Saint-Sauveur in Quebec back in 1987. It was originally just plain 4 body slides, but they recently made them a lot more exciting by having riders try to sit on a mat while going down! Turns a tame slide into a thrilling one because you have no handles and you go down a lot faster.

If I'm not mistaken Preston Whitmore, the eccentric billionaire who funds the expedition in Atlantis: The Lost Empire, was included in one of the SEA portraits at Mystic Manor in HKDL, though I'm having trouble finding confirmation of that at the moment

wow in less than 2 weeks? I guess the barren land and coverings is what they are going with. Will be interesting to see what the views from the ramp really look like.. and the view up at the slide from the splash pool

I don't think they ever properly identified any of this guys as Whitmore, even though by all accounts he should have been part of SEA's membership. I've been wanting them to do this for so long.
