My personal favorite:

I remember we were about to enter MGM so we got our Ap's out and got in line!!! So we get into the shortest line we can find (obviously) aned rush the gates. Well....... little did we know we got in line behind a group of 2 parents and their MANY CHILDREN and on top of it none of them speak a word of English!!!!! So of course they have to all have AP's:hammer: and they obviously never did the finger scan before!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! I swear to GOD if it wasn't for that awesome CM at the turnstile we would have been there forever!!!!!! He was able to speak fluent Spanish and somehow taught even the kids how to do the finger scan!!!!! It still took a while and was actually kind of funny to see them yell at eachother in Spanish and make it look like a Chineese fire drill when their passes weren't working!!!!!!!!

I THINK THAT SOME SPANISH SPEAKING PEOPLE KNOW SOME ENGLISH BUT FEEL THAT THEY CAN PRETEND NOT TO UNDERSTAND ANY ENGLISH WHEN A CM TELLS THEM THAT THEY CAN'T DO SOMETHING!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

That is probably my biggest pet peave in WDW and will always make me MAD!! Please don't play stupid!!!!! LEARN SOME FRIGGIN ENGLISH AND ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND IT!!!!!!!!

I only had trouble with them on the trip where we had special military tickets and had to use the finger thingies. Man those things are a pain in the butt!! Luckily it was September so the parks were empty and no one was behind us.

Or on a similar vein, how about those people at the fast-food eateries who wait until they are AT THE COUNTER to figure out what they are going to order! ARGH! You were in line for how long? Jeez people!

Getting back to people who pretend not to speak English, one time on the Great Movie Ride there was a couple who looked like they were of Latin descent who took flash pictures at EVERY opportunity. So EVERY time they do, the CM yells RIGHT TO THEM "No flash photography!" But no, they just keep right on flashing...uh...taking pictures. So later, after the ride was over, the CM brought over another CM who spoke fluent Spanish, but as it turns out, the "Spanish" couple couldn't speak a word of Spanish! They were just faking the whole time, just so they could take illegal pictures! Can you believe THAT?! Well, it's more of a laugh than everything else, because they weren't hurting anybody, but c'mon people!

I don't even know where to begin about gobuckeye's post about Spanish speaking folks. I'm Latina and have family that speak English well enough to get by, but they try. At least someone was understanding about these people's situation. These people must have saved a lot of money to be able to go to WDW and get AP's. Now they have to learn English too?? I could have sworn everyone was welcome, and that WDW was very accomodating to its foreign guests. I do think sometimes people pretend to not speak English, but sometimes it's just an actuality.

To end this incessant rambling, let me warn you: never come to Miami until you learn some Spanish! "LEARN SOME FRIGGIN SPANISH AND ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND IT!!!!!!!!" Otherwise, you'll be in trouble .

Hope you got the sarcasm in that, but oh well. :)

So, what can be said about the English speaking American who, even though he/she understands the language, decides to break the rules, be rude and disrespectful and generally buck the system?

Your post is a blanket generalization which is offensive. I have personally had many more problems with the average Joe Schmo at WDW that any foreign guests. True, this is only my experience, however, it seems to me that someone who doesn't speak the language very well has a bigger disadvantage in understanding rules than someone who does speak it very well and either chooses not to understand or believes that they are above the rules.

That's exactly what I was trying to say and couldn't word it correctly. Thanks!

Here's the kicker...

I was at Animal Kingdom on Christmas Day 2003 (I'm gonna be there in 8 days --- so excited) and this poor elderly gentleman inserted his credit card into the turnstyle. The CM was very polite in saying that they would accept the card at the ticket counters behind him. He looked at the CM and in a very sweet voice replied, "but I just want to give you my money and see the Animals". I really wasn't in a hurry so I escorted the man to the booth to get his ticket. I also led him on a private tour of the park because a) it was christmas and b) he was very nice.

Moral of the story: Disney wants your money, but not that badly.

I am a manager at a movie rental palce in North GA and ther are more mexicans here then others.(nothing aginst them) and wehn we do our "late calls" I hate it when I call them I know very little spanish and I agree with you. I think they pretend to not speek english just to try to get out of late charges. (it don't work). I am going to start classes just to learn spanish.

well.... I'm rather offended, seeing that I took the time to learn English and even lose my Spanish accent.

Al carajo con todos ustedes.

In my experiences at WDW (as well as other places), most "violations" of rules are committed by folks who appear to know "FRIGGIN ENGLISH" . Unless you've been in a situation where you don't speak the native tongue, you have absolutely no idea the anxieties/barriers one has to endure to try to communicate a problem to another person. I suppose the closest anyone may feel this in a similar fashion is a first time parent with their baby: The infant could cry at the top of its lungs and the parent may not understand what to do to help it.

tidbit: did you know that the english language is the hardest language to learn.

especially when you have words like....... fixin', yall, aint, gonna, etc, etc. but the is in my neck of the woods.........

for your slang terms that would be hard for a latin person to understand in your neck of the woods.................... go watch Fargo.

Ok....... I was just showing one case that made me mad. It was just that group that made me angry............ it doesn't mean that I dislike all Spanish speaking people!!!!!! Personally, I have no problem with people who speak Spanish. Heck, I actually kind of like the monorail instructions in Spanish. (I don't know why)

I just sometimes get made when Spanish speaking people make fun of other people in the park thinking no one else can understand. WELL I DO!!!!! I knew my four years of Spanish in high school would pay off sonner or later. I mean I remember a group from Brazil inside of POTC saying some VERY NASTY things about the people in front of them in line!!! I know it was just one case, and that doesn't mean I dislike all Spanish speaking people!!!! Just in those rare cases.

Actually I have a pretty funny story for you guys......... here it goes......
Ok so my aunt and uncle are at the preshow for the Backlot Tour ( you know the one that shows some stunts from Pearl Harbor) Anyway, as you know, a member from the audiance is chose to play on the set!!!! Well, the CM chose a man named Esteban who obviously doesn't speak a word of English!!! So when the water jets start going off the CM's tell him to "duck" well obviously he had noooooo idea what they were saying so feeling distressed HE JUMPS INTO THE WATER!!!!! I know this story would not be so funny if he would have hit one of the water jets!!!!! But........ just the thought of that happening is sooooo funny:lol: !!!!! Poor Esteban!!!!!

That's all!!!!! So please take it easy!!!!!

Turnstile Trauma..

boy I thought this thread was about not fitting through the turnstiles...I swear they make them more and more narrow every year...darn those sadistic Disney Imagineers...kick my self esteem right where it hurts so I feel compelled to do some binge shopping to make myself feel better...

....that's my conspiracy theory and I'm sticking to it!

I have somewhat of a turnstile horror story...

I was exiting Haunted Mansion, and somehow the turnstiles at the top of the exit had become locked (whether by accident or by malicious pranksters is anyone's guess). With the turnstiles locked, it was very difficult to leave this little room, and the moving walkway kept delivering more and more people to that very small area. It was getting more and more cramped, and people started yelling and shouting, because it was getting pretty ugly - it's not like the people on the walkway could just stop, as they would have had to walk backwards just to stay still. I was about 2 seconds from just jumping over the turnstile when, fortunately, a castmember heard us and came running over and unlocked them.

I always though it was dumb to have a "turnstile" style exit there. A simple gate or even nothing would do just fine.

That and Chinese. I think that if you say a word it has to be pronounced in a certain pitch or else the word won't make sense.

I could be wrong though. *shrugs*

this may have already been said, but another one of the probs with the turnstile slowdowns is that the paper tickets are kind of flimsy and they sometomes dont want to feed in to the ticket reader. (I think that the only paper tickets are the single day ones) I think that If Disney went to all plastic cards, since they are hard, it might eliminate some of the turnstile slowdowns.

but plastic cards tend to have problems with their magnetic strips after a while.... and it would require people to spend money to replace their lost or stolen ones...
