This heat ridge is keeping things from coming up, but anything is possible. I believe I've seen one report where it has a chance at the Fl. panhandle, but I haven't heard that in a few days.

There's another system that they are saying will probably become a major hurricane and will come on shore in Mexico, but if the heat ridge gets a weakness, then it might have a chance to come up further north. We'll have to watch that one too.

I'm moving this into the weather forum, as I suspect we'll be following a few storms before the hurricane season is over. ;)

Projected date TD four may affect Florida: August 21st

My arrival date: August 21st.

Ugh.:hammer:

Based on what I've seen, the arrival date is often later than they predicted. That may be good for you, but not so good for me. I'm scheduled to fly in on Sept. 6 for the Pin event. It better not ruin it for me.

But then again, I've been to WDW once in between 2 hurricanes and had the best time of my life. So I'll take whatever I can get! :)

I just saw this on my local news and checked up on it on Weatherbug... I'm there from the 16th through the 24th, I hope that this thing takes a turn sometime soon. Does anybody here know of anything that might get in its way and move it?

Being there during a hurricaine doesn't really bother me. WDW is far inland, and they are certainly prepared for a major storm. The worst that will happen is we loose a day in the parks.

What worries me is air travel on or after the day of landfall. If our flight is canceled we may not make the trip at all. Or worse, we wind up stuck in an airport other than home or Orlando.

Hey, guys, don't even start to worry about this depression yet! It is way out there. Didn't become a storm over night and there are no predictions so far that it is coming very close to Florida. If it turns like they they think it is going to do, the storm will stay East of the Bahamas . But as we all know tracks change so it needs to be watched.

I guess it is time for us locals to really make sure that the batteries work, the hurricane food and water supply is stocked, and the shutters are ready to go up without having to be in the Home Depot parking lot lines if it does come this way. .....ugh!

Neverminds, didn't realize that the previous poster's image managed to update itself.

On other notes, my local news (in Boston) is expecting it to reach a Catagory 2 or 3 storm. Anybody have any ideas on when it would hit Disney if it should?

It looks like this thing should stay away from Disney as of the most recent predictions.

In other news TD5 just became TS Erin several minutes ago.

As of Today, Dean is officially the first Hurricane of the Season!

from Acuweather.com ...

" As of 5 a.m. AST, Dean was centered 485 miles east of Barbados in the Lesser Antilles island chain. The storm was moving west near 24 mph, with maximum sustained winds near 75 mph and wind gusts at 85 mph.

Hurricane warnings have been issued for the islands of Dominica and St. Lucia. Hurricane watches are in effect for the other islands.

Dean is moving through an area that will allow it to continue to intensify. It could reach Category 2 strength later today, before pounding the Lesser Antilles tonight and Friday with strong surf, heavy rain and battering winds that could produce flash floods and mudslides.

Dean is forecast to head toward the Yucatan Peninsula next week; however, all interests in the Gulf, the Caribbean and the Southeast U.S. should closely monitor the storm over the next several days"

There is absolutely no reason to be nervous over this if you are going to WDW. While not 100% accurate with the tracking, you can safely assume that this storm is not going to hit Florida. While you should still check it (new updates come out every six hours), there is no chance right now of this thing hitting Florida. However, if you have plans to visit Cancun, think twice.
