Think of all of the things one can substitute for the word "train" above...
Hence my use of quotes around "fine" . . . didn't want to give the impression I agreed with the assessment.

As far as I'm concerned, the train is an essential element of the park that anyone with pride would insist on returning to service quickly.

And there are many things that could substitute for "train" in this case as well.

I hope the underbelly landscaping of Tron turns out well.

While Shanghai’s Tron is gorgeous, the landscaping and ground interaction stood out as a weak point.

The train and pathway to Storybook lead me to believe Magic Kingdom’s will have a more scenic underbelly, but we’d just have to wait and see.

I always love the Disney defense tactic of responding to criticism of contemporary Disney decision making by contending that WDW has always been badly designed and full of stupid decisions. REAL Disney fans know the parks always stunk.

As in all things, balance is necessary. There is something between the straw man you describe and "In the good ol' days the parks were always perfectly themed, no backstage area has ever been visible from on or off property even with a telescoping lens, and economics never affected blue sky creativity."

Think of all of the things one can substitute for the word "train" above...

You could also at the same time replace "3 years" with "approaching 30 years".

I was agreeing! I understood the "fine" sarcasm and was applying it to their treatment of sooo many other things that are merely "fine" and therefore ignored.

What you said was right on, and it is sad that so many things could substitute for "train" in your statement, and it'd still be true.

When did they move the Rocket Rods to WDW?

It’s perplexing that this building continues to stand. It’s ugly as sin, has no place in the land now, and can’t possibly be a huge moneymaker. all i can figure is that deconstructing that building and keeping space mountain open are not possible to do at the same time.

It's cheaper to leave it up vs tearing it down, and it's retail space so it generates at least enough money to justify staffing it.

But I agree it still needs to go.

I believe they sent the trains out to get a traditional refurb, no?

Genuinely, there is value in the company making it a third rail electric train while making it look like a steam engine for show, but this company will not do it.
The Roy O Disney is currently at Strasburg being refurbed. Walter E Disney came back a big ago and the Lilly Belle was done a few years ago.

Trees and shrubs at the back of the gift shop have been cleared, along with lots of the facade.
Also looks like the rear-wall has been taken out, perhaps new sets of doors for a new entry/exit to gift shop?

What value is that? The steamboat and steam train are very important elements of magic kingdom in my opinion. The historical operations make the place “real” and not just a fake facade.

Oh that’s sad. The roy is my favorite (since it’s a 4-4-0 and the oldest) and I was hoping I’d get to see it again before it was “modernized” - oh well. I was on the Roy’s very last train before they closed the railroad.

Roy has not gone yet. Roger is the one currently at Strasburg, and is probably getting close to being finished if he isn’t already. Walter returned in August of 2020 and Lilly returned in July of 2016.
I’m sure Roger will be gone a while longer although he was relatively recently refurbed in the 90s so I’m not sure if the work needed is as extensive.
