DL's POTC is certainly superior to MK but the difference is not nearly as big as many people often suggest. The big difference in ride length is mostly filler for DL especially in the beginning of the ride -

And here I thought people, especially around here since this place is WDW centric, under report the differences.

I would say the difference between WDW and Dl Pirates is even bigger than the differences among Mummy ride Orlando vs Hollywood’s version.

And what you call Dl Pirate filler I say is the very best part of the attraction: floating along the bayou passing the Cajun huts and banjo playing and making our way to a brick lined watery corridor and greeted with the coolest Disney moment ever: talking skull.

Ok 3rd greatest Disney moment on Earth but you get the point anyway.

They were considered filler at Disneyland. That’s why the scenes were not built. That’s how the scenes were viewed. That’s not how they are viewed now, but at the time it is how people like Marc Davis viewed them.
Right, this is what I was getting at. They were initially considered filler, but they’re not filler now.

This seems to be true of everything in the original design of MK. They looked at Disneyland and asked, "how can we cut filler, add capacity/throughput, and increase the size to take advantage of the space?"

But in some cases, what they cut as "filler" was not just filler, but key to making things special.

With TRON, I'm wondering if they might have done something similar by making small changes (compared to SDL) they thought would not be of any consequence.

I thought WDW pirates was shorter and cut out scenes because
A) it was a rush job (people kept asking where the amazing pirates ride was)
B) some scenes would overlap with the plans for WRE which was supposed to use some of the same "gags" from the DLR pirates

Was there really anything to cut from the Shanghai version? It's only like a minute long.

Nothing on-ride that we know of, but the pathway leading up to the ride, the signage, building cladding, and some of the landscaping/ambient theming are different, as well as the train tunnel. Some rumored changes to lockers.

Notice SDL's multi-level walkways:

We saw the track before they put the building up. It's the same

Well the Shanghai version is the centerpiece of the land. The canopy makes a lot more sense there and works better -- it still looks cool at the Magic Kingdom, but it's hidden from even like half of Tomorrowland. The design doesn't make as much sense tucked back into a corner, and they don't have as much room as they had at Shanghai either.

Yup, in Shanghai the entire concept and design was purpose built for the specific land, view from the entry points, and integration of the other buildings. The fact that WDI decided just to just pick it up and plop it down next to Autopia and Space Mountain and say "Done!" is one of the most embarassing creative decisions in a very long line of recent embarrassing decisions.

The idea that any Disney theme park fan defends this is frankly beyond me. It would be like saying "Hey, that volcano at Disney Seas is pretty popular, why don't we just plop that down where the sub lagoon/autopia is in Disneyland? Bam!"

They truly just have stopped caring and the fans who respond with "But it goes wheeeeeeeeeee and it is better than nothing!!!' only fuel it.
