Tripods

This may be a silly question but we have never tried it. Are tripods allowed in the parks? Thanks

Yes, but CMs/Security reserves the right to ask (and often does ask) Guests to move them or stop using them if they're somewhere they could impede traffic flow or otherwise cause a safety hazard.
A monopod is sometimes a better way to go, or a smaller tripod.

Would never go anywhere without one. I have a tiny one for standing on trashcans, a medium one for when I'm sitting down and watching parades and a full one for night shots.

They're allowed, but just be prepared for some serious attention by WDW Security. They seem to believe tripods are the symbol of a professional photographer....

I usually only use mine at the end of the day for night shots when there are less people in the park.

Always take my tripod... especially for night shots. Has never been an issue by security. Also, a monopod works well and a bit easier to tote around.

I always take mine as well. I have never had any issues but the night we went to MNSSHP many people thought I was a photopass photographer for some reason. I was trying to line up a particular shot and I turned around and there were several people waiting for me.:lol:

You can bring them in, but chances are someone from security will ask you a couple of questions when they see you using it. There is nothing to worry about, though.

Oh the tripod....I had a bad experience with a man using tripodS one evening on Main Street. He set up FOUR tripods blocking the entire street and would not let any one pass by! I, of course, wanted to get to the rides, and seeing as how he was not a Disney employee went on by. He got angry and threw one of those big Disney lolipops at me then proceeded to kick over one of his tripods.

But yeah, as long as you don't use more than one and don't block off large areas of property...go for it! :lol:

I'm totally getting one of these for my next trip, wish I had thought of it last fall.

I take my large one in a backpack, but only at night. Never had a problem with a guest or CM when using it.

I always carry my Gorillapod with me. Awesome tool. However, it only works so well. You are limited to what you can shoot from. So if you want to take pictures of Wishes at MK, you pretty much have to snag a trash can to put it on top of. Or may luck out with a railing somewhere. But most of the prime shots are hard to get without a regular tripod.
But at Illuminations at Epcot, a Gorillapod works great since the entire lake is surrounded by railings you can latch onto and get decent shots.
I have yet to bring my regular tripod, and thats just because I don't check luggage. And TSA frowns upon you carrying on things that can be used as a weapon. But if you check luggage, and don't mind carrying it with you all day, paying for a locker, or going back to get it for night shots go for it!

Either way, just remember other people are there for their vacation also. Don't be a jerk about using your tripod and you should be fine.

They actually have signs at TDL as well as stating on the maps that tripods should not be bought into the parks.

I've got nothing against them, I just can't be bothered to carry mine around, but I can see why you are asked not to bring them.

I typically set aside a specific day for "night pix" and only bring my tripod that one night. They're a PITA to lug around anyway. :lol:

A friend of mine has actually been escorted out of Disneyland for using a tripod... however once he complained to Guest Relations about it (since there's no published policy), they poured on the service-recovery... he wound up with VIP seating to nighttime events, etc.
