It's a "snow day" here in Michigan, which happens to be right after our 2 day mid-winter break. So, did this teacher choose to do something productive with her day?

Instead, I went back to read all of my old trip reports. Does anybody else do this?! I am my own best audience! 😆

I had a snow day too and I also did nothing productive. It was great. I have another snow day tomorrow too.

I do enjoy doing that. And as my dementia is worsening I read something and think to myself, I don't even remember doing that! 🤣

@TheMouseFan I got a response from Seth.
(Keep in mind this advice is from a 22 year old guy who didn't have much money in college). Or so he says! 🤣
-Broughton and River Street
-Forsyth Park
-Do a ghost tour/Savannah tour
-Visit Tybee Island

"There's not a ton to do besides food and drink in Savannah", per Seth.

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to see the group Voctave at a local theater. If you haven't heard of them, it's an acapella group and many of the members are Cast Members who perform with Voices of Liberty, Dapper Dans and other musical acts across WDW. I highly recommend checking them out if you like that kind of thing. I really enjoy listening to their Christmas albums during the holidays.

The show was incredible. They sang a mixture of Disney songs, some Broadway and some original music and hearing, Kate Lott, the Soprano 1, sing in person literally gave me chills. Her talent is unreal.

I love love love Kate Lott's voice. We got her autograph back in 2019 when we were at Epcot. We spent a whole day and watched every one of the Voice of Liberty performances and brought our autograph books and got as many to sign as we could. I think we got Tiffany Coburn, who no longer sings with VoL. And Aaron something. I don't remember his last name. And I think we got Elodie's signature. Kate was harder to get because she's always the first to go back stage. But she makes it sound so easy to hit those high notes, and it IS easy for her....I used to be able to do that, but when I had kids, I had to stop singing in choir because E would SCREAM the entire time I was at rehearsals and wouldn't take a bottle from dad. So I had to wait until the kids were older to go back to singing, and then the only thing I could find was a pop choir....nothing that used that vocal range and the high notes. And I've lost a lot of my range now, which is so sad because I LOVED belting. I used to sing along with the Phantom of the Opera sound track, or the Hallelujah chorus and I could nail those high notes, and I can't anymore. :( If you don't use it, you lose it. But I LOVE watching VoL, and I follow Voctave on facebook. I think all of the Voctave members have at some point been members of VoL. I think that's the rule. Some of them do other things now, but they are all originally VoL members. At least that was my understanding. I know Tiffany Colburn and Sarah Whitmore do a LOT of other stuff....solo material, projects with orchestras and whatnot. I would LOVE to be in VoL, but it's got to be super hard to get in there. Stiff competition. I have the right KIND of voice for it....I don't have much vibrato, which makes it easier to blend and sing close harmony, but they are so amazing it's intimidating. I don't think I would have ever stood a chance even when my voice was at its best, right out of college when I was used to singing several hours every day in a demanding environment. They are at an entirely different level! So so good.

I couldn't keep my eyes off of her because she was so impressive. But yes, they all are just so talented. Tiffany Coburn was absolutely amazing as well. Honestly, they all are. They put on a great show. They have funny commentary throughout also. I thought it was really neat b/c the show opened up with the local high schools performing a song written by Jamey Ray. Voctave had been there for a few days doing a workshop with them. I was in choir in high school and I thought to myself, wow, what an opportunity that would have been!! So cool and thought it was great that they did that for the community. Aaron Stratton is actually from here, so I look for them to return on another tour, at least I hope so!

But I def know what you mean about if you don't use it, you lose it. I used to have a much broader range than I do now, but other than singing along in church or the radio, I don't do any real singing anymore, haha!

Aaron Stratton! Yes, thank you! I couldn't come up with the name. There's a Josh something with a very complicated last name, too, and I want to say he started off singing in California...maybe with Dapper Dans? I don't remember, but I really like him, too. They are all so kind as well as being talented.

We didn't get a lot of opportunities like that when I was in high school. I come from podunk nowhere Wyoming and there were only 5 kids in my choir my freshman year. We just didn't have the numbers and I was the only one who really loved singing. Most people who took choir took it because it was an easy A. But singing was the only thing that I felt like I was good at, and it was "my thing". I wasn't an Athlete, and my brother was the classic over-achiever, and music/drama was the area where I felt like I actually got a chance to shine. But the only time I got to do workshops like that was when I made it to All-state choir, etc. When I got to college, my vocal jazz group got to do a masterclass with The Real Group. That was AMAZING.

I sing in a choir now, but it's a pop/rock group...we say we're a band with 20 lead singers. We're very choosy with music, but there's very little music in that genre that goes above the staff, so my voice doesn't get much of a workout. But we were doing an arrangement of Uprising that went up to a G I think? And I'm the only one who can hit it. That and Mr. Blue Sky, and that one goes up to a high B-flat which is at the top of my range now, where I used to be able to hit an E, so squeaking out a B-flat is very disappointing. But still, no one else in my choir even comes close to being able to hit that, but that puts a lot of pressure on me, too, because if I get sick and can't hit it, there's no one else to cover. And I really have to belt to hit it, so if the rest of the group doesn't sing loudly enough, I either don't blend, or the note isn't quite steady and my voice has a tendency to break on it if I have to hold back. I really need their support to get up to it. We haven't done that one in a couple of years now, though.

@Songbird76 How is your son doing?
He's out of the hospital now, but still can't stomach much. His stomach is still a bit unused to having to work, so he gets an upset stomach. So far, he can make it through a muffin, or at least most of it, and that's about it. We're building up. He's going to go back to school for a couple of hours tomorrow, but I'll drive him there and pick him up when he's tired and wants to come home. So...he's better, but still recovering. Thanks for asking!

We'll miss you by a little over a week. Love going that time of year though, here's hoping the heat is only mildly oppressive in May

That is really really sad!!! Are you there before or after me?
Sad Inside Out GIF

I've lived in SW Florida for 27 years now, so I'm pretty used to it. I like to start early, take a pool break in the afternoon, and head back out for the evening. The rain is the one thing that can be bothersome more than anything for me that time of year. I can't wait to see how LP is growing up - will you be doing a trip report? :inlove:

I'll be there before you! May 15-20. I have kind of given up on trip reporting, but I may do an abbreviated one just because a few people have asked :hilarious: I just don't take nearly as many pictures when I'm keeping up with a busy kid.
