I really think they should’ve made lite versions of Tokyo’s ride rather than pluses versions of FEA.
They could’ve cut the kid scene and even the coronation and shortened the top of the mountain and still had a fantastic ride without spending too much more.
HKDL/Paris’s version is sufficient, but Tokyo’s seems more POTC scale, which both of those parks could use.
Especially Paris, since it doesn’t have the accompanying coaster and is the centerpiece of the lagoon, whereas in Hong Kong it’s a self-contained land.

While that's definitely better than FEA, it doesn't look that great to me. It reminds me of the Little Mermaid ride.
I think the Beauty and the Beast ride is still the best they've done for an animated film dark ride in the past couple of decades (unless I'm missing something obvious), and it has its own share of problems.
They realise it would look better shot 16:9.

I actually think this is better than Beauty and the Beast and fixes a lot of its flaws, such as the pacing problems and lack of visual interest (large rooms with not much happening or things to see for extended durations).

I agree that it fixes some of BatB's flaws, but I think it has its own separate flaws -- visual interest is actually one of my issues with this. The scenes in BatB (with the exception of the outdoor scene that goes on too long) are more interesting than just about anything I saw in that video.
A lot of the scenes in the Frozen ride are very empty with just a single AA and not much else in terms of sets, scenery, etc. -- it's reminiscent of FEA in some places. It was pretty underwhelming.
Just based on videos, I'd be more excited to ride BatB than this. Also, although we obviously don't have a ride through video yet... some of the info about Tiana makes me think it will be significantly better than this and the BatB ride, which would be a very pleasant surprise.

I don't think a video recorded on a phone does a good job showing all the detail in the scenes. It seems there are multiple effects that were not captured. As an example, the interior castle scene is elaborately themed on both sides despite the boats directing focus on the AAs.
I don't think there's a single scene in Frozen Journey where I felt bored unlike Beauty and the Beast. But I will reserve judgment until I experience it in person. I just don't think we can appreciate the scale of this ride without seeing it in person.

Of course it's all subjective, I just had almost the opposite reaction. I found most of the scenes in that video pretty boring compared to what's offered in BatB -- and I don't think BatB is any kind of masterpiece, nor does it compare well to the truly great Disney E tickets. Watching a video of BatB at least made me want to experience the attraction, though, whereas this didn't really pique my interest at all. It just looks bland for the most part.
Clearly an improvement over Frozen Ever After, but it feels like another miss overall from Disney to me. Once better video is available I'll certainly watch it to see if it changes my opinion, though.
That said, I'll never experience either of these rides in person unless they're cloned to the US, so my opinion doesn't really matter much anyways. While I'd love to visit Tokyo Disney in an ideal world, in reality it's so far down on my list of things to do in Japan that it's wildly unlikely I'll ever spend enough time there to see it.

Am I crazy for preferring the approach of FEA than this book report ride?
Obviously the execution is better here (thought I have a more generous opinion of FEA than most on here), but I just find the straight re-telling of the film's plot a little plodding. I much prefer the approach they took with FEA of just putting together a very loose story that allows riders to drift through scenes and songs they enjoyed from the movie rather than feeling that they either have to re-tell the film's plot or come up with a sequel or prequel idea that precludes including some of the things people liked from the film.

I'd have to think more to say which approach I prefer, but I probably lean towards your view, considering I think the BatB ride looks more interesting than this and it's probably closer to FEA in design (mainly focusing on specific scenes/songs from the movie rather than attempting to retell the whole story).
