Check out this old Master Plan. You will see that the parking garages were made for a transit station and link. You can see the transit station in these plans all the way to the right and between the parking garages and the thin black line going up and down through it is the transit line.View attachment 80988
Correct. And Universal Blvd was built with the intention of being able to incorporate a transit system. However, this was to connect the 2 properties and have a direct link to OIA and/or any regional transit, as opposed to the current hotels on-site. The thought was to let the waterway and possible shuttle transportation serve the purpose of on-site transportation for the existing property.
Over the last few years they've looked at Peoplemover systems, Monorail and gondola cable cars.

Should anything be needed to be connected to other areas in the future of course.
Gondola just makes me laugh.

Seem to be having difficulty discerning sarcasm from people actually asking lately. My bad!

Avatar's number is pegged at approx $500m, but that's not where it will end up. The rest of the work being done in DAK hasn't had any numbers attached, so I can't answer that. I don't actually know. DHS hasn't had anything announced, so can't answer this either. In general, currently and over the next 5 years, there are billions being spent on the Florida property in total between the parks, Springs and infrastructure. Spending that is long overdue in my opinion.

Gawrsh. Thanks.
Just to pile on. THANKS to you and @marni1971 , @drew81 @WDW1974 @Lee, and others who provide the most reliable information out there. I rarely post anything I hear through off-the-record and unofficial channels (here, on my newscast or on my work blog) that isn't WELL WELL founded because it can easily get people I like, respect, and/or appreciate in trouble and to what end? But if anyone on this site is a doubter, I am here to say these fine gentlemen (and I mean no disrespect leaving out any others) know what the heck they are talking about. That's all I can safely say.

@articos or anyone who may know,

I was looking at the Orange County property records map online and came accross something interesting for Typhoon Lagoon. There are a few parcels labeled "Entry Road to Typhoon Lagoon" which are curently vacant. These parcels are budding the I-4 interchange there for LBV Boulevard. I was wondering if they plan (or once planned) direct access, like they are doing now for Disney Springs. If you look at the map, it looks like it could be a separate feeder in addition to the Disney Springs feeder. You will see a curve drawn on the map by the interchange that is not within the parcels labeled "Entry Road to Typhoon Lagoon", so I am assuming that the curve is for Disney Springs and the parcels are an entirely different project. Here is an image and I circled the parcels for clarity. The curve that I think is for Disney Springs is between the two top parcels.

I'm sorry, now I'm imagining a "Mick E. Mouse's Showbiz Pizza" restaurant. They could put those Mickey Mouse Revue animatronics to use and put them on a stage while the diners eat!
and have them sing ceelo's 'forget' you --- warning this is backup singers and music, but ---words---

By the way, last night I looked over property records online with Orange County. Universal hasn't bought any new land since Wet N Wild. They have one small parcel to the southeast of their property where USO is and a smallish slice of a parcel just south of the new water park site. My guess is that they won't buy any new land (unless they get a good opportunity and price to do so) and the third park will be built on where Wet N Wild is. I'm guessing the new water park will eventually replace Wet N Wild.

Also, Disney has been selling off a lot of property. They sold off everything south of I-4 and east of Vineland Road, as well as everything north and east of Bay Lake (and immediately southeast of Bay Lake) and everything it had in Lake County. They did add new properties, however, west of 429 to 545 from south of Western Way to Seidel Road.

it would make sense that they would want to push development west, away from I-4 and their competitors. I also believe the area along the tollway is more buildable which is an obvious huge selling point.

So, we've had the rumor for TSPL for months now. And it seemed a major premise of this build would be that it could be opened quickly to help with the capacity loss that DHS has had plus can be advertised as a "new offering" in the dead period before Pandora opens. Yet, it doesn't sound like any work has been done for the build at all.

Granted, with flat rides, it's possible they can be mostly built off-site and added on quickly. But the land needs to be cleared and ancillary construction needs to happen.

Does anyone have any idea where this project stands? At this point, I'm guessing that it would open at the same time as the TSMM expansion, which sounds like it would be in late 2016. Which is sad that such a simple project would take so long.

I think TSMM is on a way different timetable than that.

A quicker or slower timetable? I thought the blog posts and the permit filings point to a late 2016 opening for the third track.
The Disney Park Blog post said late 2016 for Soarin and TSMM.

Here at Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, we’re always making investments to exceed your expectations – whether it’s creating new attractions and entertainment or making existing experiences even better.

One of the things we’ve heard from our guests is that a visit to Walt Disney World Resort just isn’t complete without enjoying the spectacular views at Soarin’ in Epcot or a spin through Toy Story Mania! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Well, I’m excited to share that we are expanding both attractions by adding another theater at Soarin’ and more midway track at Toy Story Mania! We’ll also be updating the screens and projection system at Soarin,’ bringing a visually enhanced experience.

These expansions are expected to be complete by late 2016, offering even more opportunities for you to enjoy these beloved attractions during your Walt Disney World Resort vacation.

I know I saw a picture of the Backlot tour where the battle ship part of the tour was located the day after it closed. All of the water was drained out of it. I thought wow, they are moving fast with whatever is going in there. Then nothing was announced? Does anyone have any recent pictures of what is going on where the backlot tours used to be?? Thanks

Quite literally until the last month that is all they did. More recently however I was told the prop storage building has been all but cleared out. The last time It was seen only the very large props remained and most of those had already been palleted. The Hanna Montana Chicken coop fort or whatever that thing was had also been removed. Honestly I think they are planning on using the buildings temporarily for Star Wars Weekends particularly for Darth Mall.

Cool - thanks for the update

Again it may not be everyone's cup of tea but the park needs flat rides. At least we are rumored to get the Cars land flat rides. Toy Story is smart for the theme because of the popularity of Mania. They do something that makes sense and it still gets hate.

I think it gets the hate because of the 'cheap-n-nasty' style which has been in play at WDW since 2001 or so, If TWDC had simply ordered the flat rides and gotten them installed soon after the 5 rides closed at the end of the last FY I think most of us would have been happy even I would have been pleased

By the delay it seems that TDO is gauging whether they need to install them at all, If the gate clicks remain at pre-removal levels in all probability TDO will NOT do the TSPL - why should they 'business' was not affected by removal of the rides and that made the park's margins FAR better.

One interpretation could be summarized like this:

Both expansions are being worked on simultaneously and both will have been completed and opened by late 2016. That does not mean that they will both open at the same time in late 2016. Maybe the Soarin' expansion project will take longer for a more complicated build and for external factors (Shanghai debut), causing it to open after the TSMM project is completed. Sometimes the use of subtle word choice can be mildly ambiguous for a specific purpose. That might be the case here. Both rides will open when completed, TSMM first, followed by Soarin', with both being finished by late 2016.
