Toy Story Mania Wii Reviews

Ours came from Amazon today (shipped yesterday...its nice to have a new Amazon distro center just south of here!)

I will say that it's very well made/designed. However...

1) There are way too many credits at the beginning

2) The main menu is difficult to navigate. We actually had to get out the book to figure out where to start (no kids - we have to learn the old way)

3) The 3D glasses are the red/green kind and it's just plain awful! The lenses just overwhelm you and everything is either red or green. Done with those!

4) I probably could have dug deeper and found rules or instructions, but without them it was hard to figure out what all the wii-mote maneuvers were supposed to do. The wave back and forth thing - no idea what that does during game play.

Other than that, we played for about an hour and had to quit because our thumbs and wrists were tired. The bonus rounds are tiring with the shaking and wiggling and other wii-mote motions.

I'll actually read the little booklet and mess around with it more and it will probably make way more sense.

BTW, I guess I don't have the bionic thumb that the-reason14 has, because I was perfectly content with the speed of throwing. Heck, I could hardly keep track of my crosshair and thrown objects as it was

Lol, yea well I guess I just want my projectiles to go faster, lol.

And I know what you mean about the difficulties with the menus, but in a way I like that its so massive, with all these menus and sub menus and what not. Funnily for me, I figured out how to pause the game, show the score, and navigate pretty well without reading the book. I did read it, but later, and its so small. Its useful, but yea I dont like reading those instruction books.

I like that they have all these modes, one in particular the build mode. I constructed the order of the games, just like the ride and thought that was pretty fun. The 3d to me is cool, I guess cuz I never used those glases before. And while its not great great, to me its good enough for my home.

And lastly the waggles, I enjoy them because they're different for each game. I thought they would be the same, but they're not. And because of that added accuracy, it makes me enjoy the games even more. Like I said my only beef is the projectile launch speed, but its good enough for the home.

I don't know if they all do, but mine came with snazzy face plates. My Wiimote is now all dressed and ready to go!

Ok...got it this afternoon.

My kids and I played for a couple of hours (until the Wii died - again...long story), and it is fun enough. I did like that you can turn off the 3D in setup, and the play itself isn't bad at all - even a bit addicting.

As we play more, I'm sure we'll have more review comments!

I think I may have been playing with the 3D on, without using the 3D glasses. I wasn't thrilled with the navigation, and I don't see a mode that's identical to the theme parks at this point. Perhaps it's an easter egg, or something that can be unlocked.

IMHO They did a great job bringing the attraction to the Wii..One other element that remained true to the ride is it still makes your hands hurt after playing...Plus this will keep me busy, distracted and make me think of DHS during the winter months.

I've only played 2 games, the ring toss and the rocket launcher type game, the ring toss was definitely different than the ride, but similar in concept, and the rocket launcher game was more of a timing game and couldn't be replicated in the ride.

Where are the actual ride games located?

Okay so we just finished playing. I think it is really fun and alot of the games are like the ride- minus the spinning and the shooters of course. I really like it and so did the kids (teenage) I think they did a great job with it. Obviously it is not as cool as the ride but very fun. If there was some way that you could have a shooter similar to what you use at WDW it would be more fun, it takes a little bit of getting used to to gt your aim right. The 3-D was not as much as I thought it may be but we only played one game in it because it was getting late. We did not use the cheesy ones that came with it - we have our own like the ones from WDW that I got off eBay. I'll play more tomorrow and see about the effects. Overall though.... we love it, it was worth going out for today and the money! :D

The faceplates came with pre-orders at GameStop. It was a nice idea, but I was disappointed that they were stick-ons. I had been envisioning actual plastic components that you could put on your Wiimote -- kind of akin to the Eternal Sonata Xbox 360 faceplates that came with GameStop pre-orders.

The game is a fun diversion. It's good for light entertainment, but nothing more. The red-blue 3D effect seems to be a total waste -- they probably added it to the game just so it would seem more like the attraction.

Ah ha. I bought mine at Game Stop tonight...although not through a pre-order. The stick on feature was a little weird...and very tricky to get on there correctly.

How do the stick-ons work? They're not permanent, are they? They looked like the kind of material that adheres to plastic, but that comes off fairly easily if you lift at the corners -- I'm assuming they're not actual stickers. (I didn't care to apply them to my Wiimotes, so I left them in the sealed plastic.)

Actually, they really do seem like stickers. I was expecting something like a window cling. I haven't tried to take it off all the way yet because I am afraid it will destroy the entire thing.

Love it. :ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL: Love it.
Definitely brings back memories of Disney
We had so much fun & played for hours last night.
Really didn't care for the cheap 3d glasses but we'll probably try them again

I especially enjoyed having objectives instead of just scoring as many points as possible. That really adds something, IMO, although most of the objectives are pretty easy.

The 3D component is a total waste with the red blue glasses. I could barely see my target and projectiles with them on. I doubt I'll ever play the 3D games again. There seem to be plenty of 2D games.

If it's a game based on a attraction I'd definatley get it. Even if it's a bit different. Heck I have the PSOne & Dreamcast versions of Walt Disney World Quest Magical Racing Tour and the layouts of the rides are a little bit off but it is still the ride decked out as a racetrack.

I love Disney Kong Racing

Has anyone identified a mode that has the games from the attraction?

We played in Story mode last night and unlocked several games that you can play in free play. The Bo Peep water ballon pop is like the ride, as well as the ring toss, Woody's Shootup, The Army man Plate shoot, and a few more. We also unlocked those in 3-D. It is just okay in 3-D and I know it isn't the tv because we have a 1080p Plasma that is only a few months old. All in all though fun game but it isn't worth the headache you get from the glasses to play it in 3-D so far unless there is more to unlock.

You got the faceplates without preordering!? How much did it cost in total?

And I agree with the person who said that the faceplates should have and could have been better. I too was expecting something hard and sturdy, but the ones from gamestop are ok.

I think you just have to play in story mode for a while to unlock games. Then go to Free Play and Build a series of games using the ones from the ride.

So, there doesn't seem to be a "ride" mode - you can just customize it in the order you want to play.

I'm getting Nintendo Thumb all over again!

Day 2 was much better, as far as navigation. Unlocked a ton of games.

I still don't understand the waggle thing. It seems as though both playes (when 2 are playing) get the same "bonus points" no matter what you do, or how well you waggle. And are you supposed to mimic the actual speed of the graphic on the screen, or go as fast as you can? There really are no instructions regarding the waggle stuff, that I can find :veryconfu

Regardless, I love it! :sohappy:
