Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

You previously stated it was based on ride time.

I already addressed how ride time and cycle time are related...

Sure. They can send a train out. Wait for it to come all the way back. Wait an extra five minutes and then send out another train. In that case, ride time and cycle time would be wildly different.

But they tend not to do that. They tend to send out a vehicle as soon as they can. Which makes Ride Time and Cycle Time theoretically the same (operationally, it may be off due to ineffeciency, but we tend to be talking THRC when we talk about a rides capacity rather than it's OHRC).

You're focusing solely on the cycle of an individual specific train including how long it hangs out in the station. Which is accurate to do so if there aren't any extra trains. If there are extra trains, they go out while others sit in the station. They send out more people (dispatch time) than the cycle of a specific train would indicate. I assumed in my THRC that there was an extra train or two and that reload wouldn't slow down each dispatch when it became available.

it's weird to me that they are going to have 2 Little Green Amy Men Shows and Meet & Greets all day with Jessie, Buzz, and Woody and yet they did not build a Meet and Greet area/stage or Merchandise shop? Is this all happening out on the walking paths? That will be fun when it rains and everything will get shut down....

also - I LOVE the new Buzz Lightyear BubbleWands. Those are going to be HUGE sellers with kids.

Oh man!!!!!!! I am way too excited for this land to open. I think this looks awesome and I think it it exactly what DHS needs. When SW and Mickey open, they revamp some of the shows, and maybeeeeeeee add that rumored E-ticket I am very excited for how DHS will look. Very different than the stale DHS of the last ten fifteen years. Very exciting!

So all that new merchandise and you'll have to leave the new land to purchase most of it. How did they not find space for a proper gift shop? It's rare that I would complain about the lack of a store, but it should be in the land and not on Sunset. Perhaps they'll realize this later and find a better option.

Rides look fun, but I really fear the wait times for both of them. It's a shame I'll likely only experience them with a FP, which means once each while visiting DHS twice during a 10 day vacation. Still can't justify more than that until SWL opens.

Same reason they couldn’t fit 2 more flat rides. This is a real lame addition.

Dinorama looks exactly like what it’s supposed to be, even if folks don’t like what it’s supposed to be. It was also squeezed into an unused portion of the park and not touted as a major, park-enhancing addition.

On that note, one thing that has struck me is that, even if the scale and immersion work (very debatable), TSL doesn’t really FEEL like anything from any of the films. Unless I’m misremembering, we never really spend significant time in Andy’s yard - the locations are Andy’s room, Al’s apartment, the Toy Barn, the daycare center, etc. The new wave of franchise lands generally tries to invoke specific filmic locations - Diagon, Radiator Springs, Pandora. Even SWGE is highly reminiscent of Tatooine and centers around the very recognizable Falcon. This may be one reason TSL strikes me as arbitrary and lacking in immersion - it feels like a theme park area decorated with franchise elements rather then a location from the world of the franchise.

And Sid's room!
They should have made a scary Sid's escape ride.

Slinky won’t be their first coaster. That’s Barnstormer. They’ll ride Slink the same trip they ride Mine Train.

I have two 5-year olds. We are going to have a blast on these rides. My issues are:

1) too much $$
2) too much acreage
3) too much of the DHS “rebirth”

If we were getting a third land in 2020 or 2021, my view would be a bit different.

It'll doubtless be the first coaster for many little guests.
Simply because Barnstormer is at MK and smaller doesn't mean it's going to be every little kids first coaster.
Certainly many families will take their kids directly to Hollywood Studios and directly to Toy Story Land where they will in turn ride their first coaster.

What’s your formula that creates this change? The number of trains does not change the formula because they all can only complete a certain number of cycles per hour. The math simplifies to a number based on a single train.

We can manually count any of your examples. If there are four trains, leaving every minute starting at 00:00 then we get the following dispatch times:

Train 1, Train 2, Train 3, Train 4
  1. 00:00, 01:00, 02:00, 03:00
  2. 04:00, 05:00, 06:00, 07:00
  3. 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 11:00
  4. 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00
  5. 16:00, 17:00, 18:00, 19:00
  6. 20:00, 21:00, 22:00, 23:00
  7. 24:00, 25:00, 26:00, 27:00
  8. 28:00, 29:00, 30:00, 31:00
  9. 32:00, 33:00, 34:00, 35:00
  10. 36:00, 37:00, 38:00, 39;00
  11. 40:00, 41:00, 42:00, 43:00
  12. 44:00, 45:00, 46:00, 47:00
  13. 48:00, 49:00, 50:00, 51:00
  14. 52:00, 53:00, 54:00, 55:00
  15. 56:00, 57:00, 58:00, 59:00
That is 60 dispatches in one hour. If each train holds 20 people then you get 1,200 pph.

(60 minutes / Cycle Time) * Total Seats
(60 minutes / 4 minutes) * (20 seats * 4 trains) = 1,200 pph

Cycle time does not decrease due to more trains.

All you’ve explained is that you don’t know how to do the calculation.
THRC = (60 min / Cycle Time) * Seats
Cycle Time = Load Time + Ride Time + Unload Time
Loading and unloading is not instantaneous and it doesn’t become insteaneous with multiple vehicles. A vehicle with a 1 minute ride time cannot do 60 cycles per hour.
dude dont be a .....
have some couth

Something I had just though about with Slinky having a big roll in TSL compared to the versions in the other Disneyparks...When Disney*MGM Studios opened they had one of their first entire Films done at MCO, parts of Orlando, WDW Property , and the Backlot area where TSL Resides...And that film was Ernest Saves Christmas the 2nd film of The Ernest Franchise...

The film having a big role since it was the first film done on the WDW Property seems to be a good nod to Jim Varney who played Ernest and of course Slinky as he now Frolics and plays in the Old Backlot where the first film was done.....

You say the number of trains does not change the formula and yet, your formula takes into account the number of trains.

If there was just one train, then the times it leaves would be 0:00, 4:00, 8:00 12:00 . . . That's just 15 cycles for one train in an hour. You show how four trains would have four times the number of dispatches.

And actually, one train wouldn't have those times because of reload time.

The formula remains:
(60 minutes / Cycle Time) * Seats

It doesn’t change based on all of the permutations of attractions and therefore works on roller coaster, flat rides, dark rides and even continuously cycling shows.

How does Train 1 operating alone not hit those same dispatch times?
00:00 Dispatch + 02:00 ride time
02:00 Arrive at Unload + 01:00 unload time
03:00 Arrive at Load + 01:00 loaf time
04:00 Dispatch + 02:00 ride time
06:00 Arrive at Unload + 01:00 unload time
07:00 Arrive at Load + 01:00 Load time
08:00 Dispatch...

Where does it get off your hypothetical cycle? It’s one train every 4 minutes, just as you described.
