Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

Slinky may have been neutered.....again.

Possibly euthanized.

"Neutered" sounds terrible since it would likely mean removing any theming that makes the coaster even slightly palatable. How much more could they possible take away from it?

"Euthanized" could possibly be a good thing if they replaced it with other attractions. The coaster to me looked interested (in original form) but was not what DHS needed as a "Phase 1". If they are removing the ride, but coming up with some alternative entertainment, it could work out for the best. Even some Fantasyland style dark rides with cardboard cutouts would probably be a better use of all that land than a coaster with 1 minute ride time.

Personally, I'd like to see TSL morph into a more generic Pixar land. We know that some version of Monstropolis was on the table for Phase 3 -- use attractions for that to compliment some Toy Story ones and add a third IP (Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille) to balance it out and you have a solid land that is what DHS needs. Of course, it would need to be build quickly so it's up and running before Star Wars, so... that seems unlikely for today's Disney.

Even just a bunch of clones like Ratatouille from Paris and Ride and Seek from Tokyo would be good. Having good attractions would be more important than having unique ones for this park at this point.

:p

But honestly, with cuts it's probably essentially the Barnstormer with a dog bowl on the middle.

(Which, I would actually be quite fine with as a minor addition- but only with additional and substantial content to go with it in a new land. Which I somehow doubt is the case)

I think this also factors into how a lot more people were excited about the land when it was initially announced than now. When we first heard about it, I assumed the finish goal was around the end of 2016. Never would have imagined it would be later than 2017 at all. Now, with this supposed "quick fix" land still so far away from opening, I think a lot of the hype has (and is) decreased/decreasing.

Oh, and not to mention the cuts :p

Bingo. When this was officially announced last year, I assumed they would be doing demo and construction within months and would have the land open by late 2016, maybe early 2017 at the latest. After all, the Backlot Tour closed a year before so they was plenty of time for relocating services and preparing the land before the announcement was made. TSL looked like a quick addition to capacity to help with all the closures and made sense in that context -- but it's summer 2016 and they haven't even starting building yet? Huh?

It's SDMT all over again but even worse. A coaster being forced as the headliner ride of a new land that should be more of an opening or side act.

Yeah, this really is what should happen. Even aside from personal bias of what I want to see, it's just smarter- it allows more for future expansion/changing attractions, and having more famous properties in a park that's about experiencing your favorite movies yourself just makes more sense.

And with an Incredibles or Cars dark ride, the synergy is beautiful! :p

The timeline would work fine too. Late-ish 2017- open miniature TS area with either swirling aliens or Slinky Barnstormer, not both, just one for a small land. Then, mid-late 2018- open the dark ride (people eater for the capacity). And then 2020 or so is when a Monstropolis sub-area can open.

This is sad to hear! Disney needs to stop acting like it doesn't have money to build nice things....

The only way I would defend this choice if they are scrapping the coaster and changing TSL to a Pixar Land. Change the alien saucer ride back to Maters (save money there), add a Monsters Inc dark ride like ride and go seek or the one in DisneyLand or door coaster, add an Incredibles ride like Spiderman, and a quick service (themed to Remy?).

Sigh......
