Tower of Terror like you've NEVER seen

Hi all,

Since I am new here I want to be sure to point out that I am not trying to stir the pot or attack anybody.

I believe that the policy on not posting copyrighten (sp) material is more to protect the owner of the website/board. Disney is absolutely the most aggresive protector of their copyright in the business. As an example of how bad they are, when I worked for Kinko's (years ago) they would have people come around and ask for a couple of color copies of Mickey Mouse or some other character. A few days later a very nasy letter from Disney's attorneys would arrive threatening a lawsuit against the entire company if we violate their copyright ever again!

With an attitude like that it should be easy to see why Steve wants to protect himself. And why we should be willing to respect his policy. Not as a matter of enforcing morality regarding the theft/sharing/sampling of copywritten material but to protect this community that we all enjoy being a part of.

This copy write thing can really go anyway.....and it makes my brain hurty....

I mean....then we even have to question the www.wdwmagic.com flash intro....there is a Mickey in there....does Steve have a copy write release from Disney for that?...or is he buying trademark rights? :hammer: ;)

Or how about the Digital Media contests...then we are all going to be sued or jailed...! Steve...please clarify all this for us.....

(I am joking for the most part....but I am still somewhat confused)

It is a very tricky position. The basis that I have operated on is...

1. No characters (although I have the intro Mickey, which may have to go, and also there are all the avatars, which are technically not allowed, but with the sheer number of them on the internet it will be hard to enforce)

2. No photos taken from other sources/websites (basically because the orignal owner can take action against me for hosting it)

It really comes down to whether it is worth the owner pursuing it or not.

I do have to be careful that the forum doesnt become a Napster-type site, where people can download photos/sounds/videos that are commercially available on a product. Example would be the audio found on the CD Kiosks at the parks, or any of the Park CDs.

LOL that probably hasnt answered your question at all, sorry for not have a proper answer for you. Basically I review everything on an individual basis. :)
