The Conundrum

So you mean converting most of the park to thrill rides would have done more good than harm? Are you serious?

By most of the park you mean 1 right?

Time Racers would have been a good ride (unlike TT and MS) and it wasn't possible in the sphere anyway due to structural issues so they would have had to build it elsewhere. Ironically it followed the original Bradbury concept of SSE much closer than the actual SSE ever did.

COP would have found a new home at Epcot with a refreshed show (making room for a new e-ticket at MK). All of the clutter would have been removed and there would be new pavillions.

Other than the rainforest coaster (which would have had some themeing and would have replaced a movie nobody watches). I have no idea what you mean by all the pavillions would have been replaced with thrill rides? The only 2 were time racers and the roller coaster. The other attractions would have gotten refurbs.

Sorry.

I meant converting AND adding thrill rides to the park. That really would be lowering Disney's standards.

and yet they replaced horizons and world of motion with.....barebone THRILL rides. So you are admitting they lowered there standards.

and also...Dino-RAMA and Aladdin magic carpets. Thats some real disney standard i'll tell you what.

Project Gemini with a proper budget would have done FAR more good than harm.
Aesthetics? Yes. "Montana Future" EPCOT would have been nice.

Coaster in FW West? Time Racers? NO.:( That would have really killed EPCOT Center's spirit, which is still in the Epcot of today.

All IMHO, of course...

About 5 members on here are excited about triangles - so don't brand all 60,000 here by that.

But.... adding dance-a-thons with an over used alien, on a LCD screen, with a over hyped up announcer IS Disney standards???
True but it sure wasn't WDI's call.

Dino-Rama was on purpose. As for the other one, I'll give you that.

And yes, I am admitting Disney lowered it's standards. I'm not one of those obsessed Fanboys saying they can do no wrong. They replaced TK with MILF and I will never forgive them for that. Same with AE and SGE.

Best coaster in Florida.
Personally...everyone better sit down for this...I would be very ok with Manta being built at AK.:lookaroun
The area SW has built is lovely, well themed, and very much adds to the ride. The queue (both the rider and non-ride portions) is very well done (better than Soarin', TSMM, LMA, all of Dinorama, etc.) with fantastic aquariums, and the ride is just fabulous.

Of course, I am one who finds coasters to be works of art and don't mind seeing them not hidden inside a building.
I like them hidden as well. Adds to the mystique. As long as i can see construction photos (IE: EE ) Im good. :D

Why skip mountains? They are cool when Disney do them :D
So true.

I was on the original R&D team for Indy at WDI. The cool thing is we originally mocked up the ride system as an AGV-based prototype. Funny story about one of the first proof of concepts. Lucas, Eisner and Wells were there and looking forward to riding it. We had it set up at the Te Hunga building all programmed and ready for a spin. They boarded the car and we started it up. It was going along well in its figure 8 pattern for a while until the vehicle's guidance receiver went out. The E stop bus is supposed to activate in that situation but it didn't. The vehicle left its safe path and started heading toward a wall at full speed. We were frantically trying to figure out how to stop it before we killed all three of them. Thankfully two of our guys were close enough to the path that they were able to run with the car and reach over to the E Stop button.

To make a long story a bit shorter, the car stopped ubruptly and their reaction was like 3 teenagers that just got off an exhilerating thrill ride. They loved it and bought off on it for further development. They had no idea that they were about to be seriously injured. That was the day we decided not to go with the wireless system for that attraction. :D
Thanks for sharing. Great story

 Really. I sure am not going to ride MILF when I have CoP waiting for me. As for SGE, I don't think anyone rides that anymore.

You ride MILF?? :lookaroun

As for SGE, people still go on it.. but, not nearly as many as when it first opened... Maybe the same 5 people on these boards who like the triangles in SSE? lol..

Being a flying coaster, I have to imagine that hiding the supports is substantially harder with any overhead track. The only point of reference I can think of is the old Sim Theme Park game which was incredibly unrealistic, but they'd theme supports as trees and such. Even with forming the ground area in such a way that the supports aren't as large, it would still be quite difficult to hide all of the steel.

Test Track and Mission Space are not bare-bone thrill rides. They have thrill elements but they still fit the mold of "Entertain' inform and inspire".

How does MS entertain, inform and inspire? By learning if you can puke or not after spinning in a circle? lol...
