It’s quite a good story. The tech was tested on Casey Jr at DLP. Once it was proven to work it was beefed up for SM. The biggest problem the first gen had was the memory cards kept vibrating loose. SMM1 an to a degree M2 was notorious for missing audio.

Mission One (and subsequent rides) has the audio split into sections to maintain sync. Listening to each section in isolation is fascinating to hear how the end of each didn’t really end as such, so it could play for plus or minus a few seconds from the ideal match without any gaps.
Show that adapts to delays and runtime changes is amazing. The way soundtrack coasters adjust playback to match progress, the way dinosaur/Indy manipulates movement to cover-up ride delays, apparently Shanghai's pirates takes it into account big-time.

Sometimes it doesn't work out well (FoP pre-show) but when it does it's beautiful and totally unnoticeable.

No need. Just stop cramming IP in everywhere. Especially when the IP is already represented.

“Crap. We spent billions on this property. We’d better use it.

But we already do.

Well, use it some more. We spent billions on it.”
As Walt famously said,
"Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.
And IP. Imagination and IP. Wait, can I try this again? I feel like I can make it better. Quick, cut the tape so I can-."

Yep. That’s the clever and the hard part. Fascinating.

RnRC even takes it to Easter egg level with a whole band introduction should you be held before unload too long.

Oooo... something else I really would like to hear sometime. You wouldn't happen to have that in video or something, would you?

Interested as well. I can't remember but I was held on the final block for a solid 5 minutes last fall so I may have heard it. But I was too focused on my friend trying not to throw up from doing Food and Wine really hardcore that morning.

...I've never watched someone burn $100+ only on booze in less then 90 minutes...

I’m sure I have it somewhere. I just don’t exactly where since it’s not where it should be.

It’s worth noting RnRC doesn’t have its ride tracks split like SM. Once you launch its one single track until the music runs out.

Off topic, but I've heard people (friends included) humblebrag about how much money they spent drinking around the world.

Teacups : 5 year old :: Overpriced Slushies : Adult
Oh for sure. I kept questioning them like "Hey, you went through that $45 gift card really fast. Maybe you should slow down?"
"No way, I have a good job and can pay for it. I'll refill the card at my next stop"...later... "Why yes I want to put $80 on it!"
They totaled it up somewhere but I forget how much. I felt kinda sick hearing the total.
But then again...I do the same with my Lego and various PC part purchases...so... guilty there.

I quickly realized why Disney loves these festivals so much. Literally no more effort then sticking some glorified food carts in the middle of the walk ways, charging $1 or 2 more then most normal places, and just sitting back as the cash flies in.

Thanks. We watched it. Slinky with lights and projections. I like the lighting effects, so at least there's that.
Calling Tron “Slinky with lights and projections” is a real understatement. It surely tells me you never rode Tron yourself cause it’s leagues better than Slinky! The difference in seating position alone makes Tron so much more exciting.

my only real critique of the Tron ride would be the very short length of the experience, and the over-use of trim breaks...seems like as soon as you get moving, they are slowing you back down... and perhaps the exit from the show building back to the station could have a been used to create a better end for the ride..instead of just a very long plain tunnel... but I am being very picky...It is a great ride... We went on it 4 times! no lines at all there evening we were there...

Good luck doing that here in Orlando.
How bad do we think lines will be for this sucker when it opens? Seven Dwarfs was ridiculous, and that wasn't even a thrilling coaster. This will stretch to the hub for the entire 50th celebration.
Like any other new attraction, there will be aggressive lines and will stretch Tomorrowland to its limit. The only silver lining I cold find would be that maybe Frontierland will benefit from this but who knows.

and the lines for Seven Dwarfs is still crazy long years later... The park clearly needs more attractions... The lines for Tron will reach Pandora levels... for a longer period of time... With the dual loading station the lines do move pretty fast.

You're right, obviously I haven't since I was asking. Hope to visit SDL in a couple of years- it's in our plans. If Tron proves to be amazing, I will be very happy. A better coaster is something DH and I have thought WDW needed for a long time. Fast is nice, smooth is enjoyable, but I love the drops and scream through the loops. Does Tron have drops and loops? It is hard to get a feel from video. At any rate, the lighting and design looks amazing and it should really add to TL.:)

It has a very fast launch...there are some drops on the interior sections, not big ones, and no loops. Think RnRC with no loops and an outdoor section... though a big part of the experience is the ride vehicles themselves... (calf crushers)

if they had taken the TRON budget and put it into a new attraction for stitch / monsters inc. buildings, and perhaps even buzz as well.... and then redo the speedway into something much cooler we could be looking at a really cool Tomorrowland for the 50th.

Any plans at all for the old stitch building? Even rocket to the moon retro would be better than nothing.

I would agree with that... Tron is cool, but the money could have been spent better... Space Mountain already has the thrill aspect... I would prefer them to properly rehab Space Mountain and add effects and refresh the show scenes... I like Tron but maybe it belongs in DHS....or as they are doing now, put it in EPCOT as part of a huge new Computer pavilion replacing Wonders Of Life...then you have built a complete narrative that supports the storyline instead of random theme park ride

I’m hoping they extend the track a bit, given the high demand at WDW.
