News Tomorrowland love

I love Tomorrowland. I know many view it as dated but now it has a 'retro-futuristic' cool about it. Like the Jetsons! It's quite interesting to see how we viewed the future and I still think it works. I doubt a further vision of the future would hold up so well.

I agree.. It looked completely futuristic in 1971...around thge 80s it started to look dated... but now when you look at the original buildings, they all look futuristic again... I think it's original gleaming white lines and gull-wing fountains were timeless...but it required a little distance to see it.

I drove past Space Mountain this morning, and a small section, just above the scaffolding on the far left of the photo, was being painted a rust red color. Or maybe it was the white paint stripped away, revealing a red color beneath?
Likely primer.

Hopefully primer...

Problem with silver, and any metallic finishes is, they are unforgiving... they will show every flaw in the finish, and what appears like a slick gleaming white surface may in fact not be too slick... the metallic will show this off... Also metallic finished oxidize and darken in exposure to the elements...So unless they are cladding the exterior in a polymer shell, it will oxidize and darken... The Disneyland Bronze Space Mountain was not as dark as the pictures when it was first completed...

Look no further than the Carousel of Progress building. Now that it has a proper paint job, it just exudes classy retro-futurism.

Hmmm, interesting. I'd be surprised if red became the accent color given that WDW's Space Mountain has always had a white/blue scheme. But white/red/silver(?) could pop if done correctly.

If the colors do change, I also wonder if we'd get a new entrance sign, as the lime green then wouldn't match anything.
(Actually, could we just get a whole new entrance plaza for Space Mountain? There's nothing attractive about the current design.)

the lime green never did match anything...and the odd choice of interior colors during that rehab as well...I find it mystifying that they would have chosen pink for the walls in the queue... It makes no sense whatsoever... When you think of futuristic space travel, NO ONE thinks of the color pink...

We've ridden Space Mountain a few times so far this trip. With no prior info from me, my friends both remarked how there were so many more stars than on past trips.

Also, the off ride audio on Alpha side seems to be working better at the moment.

Oh, and the screens along the exit upramp were occasionally using customized names from the MagicBands as you went by to give names to the travel quotes displayed on the monitors.

Shame Omega has not been address yet. It was noticeably the quieter side over a month ago.

Back when Space Mountain opened, the Re-entry tunnel had a sound effect... a screaming reentry with an explosion sound...perfectly times with the tunnel...over the year, the timing has slipped...a little more each decade to now I think the sounds effect goes off about the time you are out of the tunnel and leaving... When operable it was super-cool... now it is just stupid... Seems odd to me that they could figure out how to have it perfectly synced back in 1975, but in 2016, they can't seem to get the effect working....it's always so late it just looks stupid...
Actually the effect has not worked right in so long, most people probably don't even know it is there...

That's very true. Sadly. The effects are actually two separate recordings. The re entry noise has been off for ages and the bang is so badly out of sync it's embarrassing.

It's the small details that count. I know another SQ list for the mountain is being prepared. Hopefully the love will spread to this too.

When it worked it was amazing... really heightened the excitement...especially that screaming turn into the explosion part... a really simple thing...but so very effective. If they actually got it working properly, people would think it was a great new upgrade... My last ride on Space Mountain last weekend, the explosion sound effect went off behind us while we were already out of the tunnel... laughably bad.

There are rumors of Tomorrowland getting a name change and Disney is now selling a picture frame with that land curiously omitted. Could mean nothing, could mean a lot. Speculate away.

The rumor I saw is that it will be Discoveryland, which... doesn't fit the land either? If they remake it to look like Paris it'd be neat, but to me it fits even less with the current rides than Tomorroland does.
