We rode it yesterday and I’m happy to report we enjoyed it also, I’d say it’s a tiny decline from Splash simply because there’s less to look at but the drops (and getting wet) are just as fun as ever. Seems wasteful they spent so much money on something that doesn’t improve the park though, at best it’s a wash IMHO, but at least they didn’t ruin it.
I think it’ll have the exact same draw that splash did, Splash was a must do, Tiana is a must do.
Looks more like Naveen than the ride.

Pretty good side by side video from Fresh Baked. Some of the analysis drove me nuts but I think it’s worth a watch. Agree with a good portion of his takes in regards to the exterior and queue but he really loses me during the HDYD scenes. Agree with him on Laughin Place through the lifthill and then he loses me again on the finale.
After watching this video I was surprised to see that after the initial Brer Bear/ Brer Fox scene (where the first critter band is now) the figure count for both of the HDYD scenes are comparable. It’s really that first drop in with the geese and the frog sleeping on gator where you have the biggest loss. I’m just talking quantity here. Staging issues and inferior quality of the newer figures aside.
As far as the the exterior I had kind of ended up with the opinion that exterior is Ok and it is especially compared to the inside of the attraction but man seeing the side by side of Splash and TBA it’s not close. If you re not looking at the mountain straight on now the view is pretty awful with those fake trees blocking the drop and the loss of the dead tree stump/ weenie is huge.
Anyway he comes to the conclusion that TBA is the better ride. For some reason he thinks there’s more to look at in TBA but he must be counting the twinkling lights and fireflies. The whole video just really focuses on visuals and not any of the other elements that contribute to the ride experience. But again, I was surprised that the figure count after that first Brer Bear/ Brer Fox scene is pretty comparable. Of course that doesn’t tell paint the whole picture becasue the quality and staging of those figures are pretty bad along with the awful story and dialogue. Overall this video cemented for me what the biggest downgrade on this ride is and that is the music and sound design.
For me losing the Zip finale is on the same level as losing the battle ship scene in POTC or the ballroom scene in HM. Losing the HDYD scenes is also a tough loss as that was quintessential Disneyland to me.

Too bad the ride isn’t worth all of this hoopla.
This reminds of an artist showcase I went to go see once that a friend of mine who was helping an “up coming” singer invited me to. They rented a huge venue. She had seasoned musicians and writers on her songs -some that worked with Michael Jackson. She had a great producer and rich parents to throw money at all these people. And then she came out on stage and just totally bombed. But not like she just had an off night. She just flat out didn’t have the talent. This reminds me of that.

Nice list. I meant to say the amount of figures in the HDYD scenes / current critter band scenes are comparable after the first Brer Fox/ Brer Bear. Which is why the first drop in has always felt the most lackluster. Replaced a bunch of AAs/ figures with a firefly projection there

Let's just take a second to appreciate how "They sure can play!!" "They can play, no problem!" was talking about this performance-
I mean doesn't this sound grating and amateurish to anyone else?
And the travesty is, it replaced this beautiful song-

Agreed. I don’t think they understood these kind of things and the details that made Splash great and therefore didn’t understand the assignment. To them it was as simple as Swap out Splash music with PatF music. People like PatF music. People will like this.

Right I just watched the Laughin Place then the Tiana shrunk segment back to back and it really hit how much of a disaster this is. It just feels amateurish- and the cheap figures, poorly done music, and complete lack of any kind of tension really stand out.
