Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Oh please. Staying relevant to this thread, I gave my take as to why HM's stretching room changes might be being discussed. Mick made an insensitive comment and made it clear that he did not care to understand why it was insensitive. THAT is what got the topic off the rails.

Also, notice how you two were so quick to empathize with each other and your own personal tragedies but dismiss out of hand everyone else's views and experiences. That is precisely why these arguments break out-because your empathy is selective. As if being empathetic to other people is inherently ridiculous or unworthy of your time.

This is the reason for everyone becoming frustrated. You cannot post some of the things that were posted and be shocked that other people were upset. At best, it shows a lack of self-awareness.

Can't two things be simultaneously be true? I think Disneyland is fine as is and not offensive- but also think that real life suicide and alcoholism is a tragedy and something that should be actively fought against. I've not downplayed other tragedies- but instead listed possible areas of the park that could be offensive yet no one has an issue with.

Splash Mountain, the singing chicken ride isn't racist or offensive- but real life racism should be actively fought against.

Something that I haven't mentioned yet... I recall people talking about Ray being in the ride. How is this possible if it will take place after the final scene in the film?

If I had to guess ... I think if they stick with the current plan in terms of plot...which I think is a big “if”... Ray’s family members (absent Ray) will show as a projections after the double drop where the bees are currently.

I think the visuals of the Zip-e-de-lady may be darker more black-lit (Similar time the Under the Sea sequence in TLM) to New Orleans riverfront at night and I think Ray and Evangeline will be two stars behind the river boat. The remainder of that scene may include large floats for the Mardi Gras parade.

I just really hope the America Sings gators and frogs are repurposed here and elsewhere.

I have a few questions for my holy and moral overlord @PiratesMansion

Why would you choose to represent the Haunted Mansion in your profile name and why haven’t you or anyone else ever mentioned once how insensitive and terrible that scene in the much beloved stretching room is?

Didn't he say he doesn't have an issue with the Stretching Room? Which would mean he's just as insensitive as we are.

I completely forgot about Ray as a star at the end. I could definitely see that happening.

I forgot to mention that I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to keep the rest of the America Sings animatronics out of the new ride.

I find it ironic that the people most upset by and sensitive about Splash's closing are the very people telling others that it's not valid for anyone to be upset by depictions of suicide.

As I said, I want to keep the scene as is, but...priorities, guys. Or at least keep the way you're expressing your opinions in mind. The way you're expressing them now is not a good look.
It’s funny, I saw the opposite on Twitter before I shut down my account. I posed the situation as something to consider, with how easy it would be to remove without really affecting the experience. The people advocating for Splash’s removal shot it down instantly because it was the Haunted Mansion. Nobody touches the Haunted Mansion.

I’ve struggle with suicidal thoughts for 10 years. Nobody close to me has committed suicide, but people I’ve really admired have. The scene in Mansion doesn’t sit with me right, but I try not to let it bother me too much because I know people like it.

I hope not but I wouldn’t be surprised either. They already fit into the theme of the ride but losing as many AAs as possible would be a great cost savings, I’m sure.

Not to mention they're not in the best of shape. It would be nice if Disney actually took the time to refurbish them, but they're not going to do that.

I was unsure of whether to 'like' this post since likes contribute to your reaction score, or do the 'sad face' since suicidal thoughts and depression in general are serious and not something I 'like'. I hope you're doing better now.

I'm so sorry to hear about that, and thank you for sharing. While I have not had that struggle myself, I'm always amazed to learn just how many people I've met have been in that situation, including close friends. Never once has someone who has expressed such thoughts been someone that I would have ever expected it from, based on how they present themselves to the world. It really puts things into perspective about my own struggles that I've had in other aspects of my life, and just how little we as a society (world?) understand about suicide and mental health in general, and how much we still have to learn and understand.

I've not had any friends or family members go through with it, but our school has lost a student a year to suicide for the two years I've been there. It's heartbreaking.

Just wanted to say that I do not have a clue as to what you experience every day, but I empathize with you.
