I have the mental image of Disney employees actually going into both versions of the attraction and vandalizing it as yet another attempt to "justify" the retheme.
In the real world, people do not care one way or the other about the fate of an amusement park ride enough to risk getting fired and/or going to jail for. The ride could be in perfect, pristine condition and the retheme would still happen.

Okay, so now Bob Chapek is gone and Bob Iger is back in. Will this mean that Splash Mountain won’t get rethemed?
Oh my god, stooooooop with the nonsense. You are delusional if you honestly think there’s a chance this is getting cancelled because baldy is leaving.

The project is happening. Deal with it and move on. Get your last rides in, say a prayer, throw in a Hail Mary, and get TF over it.

If anything, Iger coming back will likely result in even more Splash Mountain-esque rethemes to rid the parks of anything someone might find problematic.

Wasn't it Iger who greenlit the Splash Mountain retheme and the removal of the Jungle Cruise's problematic stuff, though?
Those are decisions that would have been made eventually anyway, no matter who was in charge. This is 2022. If Walt had lived long enough to witness how offensive those elements had become with time, he would have ordered the changes himself.

Allow me to rephrase that, I don't think any of the rides remaining have as many problematic (in the company's eyes) elements as Splash or Jungle Cruise. Maybe Peter Pan but that sells merch so they'd keep the PP theme probably

Friend was on Splash a few days ago and they're happy to say it looks alot better than it did in that vid from a few days ago. Still a few things out but still improvements, especially in HDYD

To me, todays announcement hits extra hard. because I have a sort of emotional connection with Splash. I don't tell many people this, but Splash/Disney was one of the last things I remember my family being happy while doing before everything in my house went, well, to heck in a handbasket [In forum friendly terms]. Sure, I knew it was coming, but it feels like that one happy memory is being ripped out with the ride.

Finally, some actual news when I click on this thread.

The concept art is very pretty. Im down for the Mardi Gras thing…for now.

Interesting that there’s no specific closing date for ours yet. Not sure what that could mean, if it even means anything at all.

If Disneylands is closing in March ish it’s interesting that they left it out. Maybe they ll just do another post with DL specific concept art and/ or maybe DL’s is themed slightly differently?

I like that concept art shows the interior to be heavily bayou themed. One of my biggest fears when they announced this was the interior losing its rustic feel. Hoping for more of this throughout.

I had similar thoughts when I first read it. Maybe something different is happening with ours? It’s possible that Orlando’s and Anaheim’s will have different opening dates. Wouldn’t be surprised if that actually happens. I just remembered that we’re getting an eatery, too. I doubt that has anything to do with it, though. Not sure what’s going on. I assume it won’t close that much long after MK’s.

Regarding the second half of your post, I definitely agree.
