Tiana's Bayou Adventure: Disneyland Watch & Discussion

Can I just say that, while I'm still against the retheme, I would much rather have Splash Mountain be rethemed to The Princess and the Frog than something like Pocahontas or The Emperor's New Groove?

Within the greater context of Disneyland, another Bayou attraction abutting Haunted Mansion / NOS is an excellent fit and placement.

It's just too bad all the other context this carries (a beloved attraction, change and the political overtones).

Madame Leota has a cameo in PATF.

The attraction will be in NOS.
Has it been confirmed that New Orleans Square would be "annexing" Splash Mountain? I've always assumed that they were just gonna keep it in Critter Country.

If it does, what are they gonna do about the rest of the land? I imagine the Briar Patch shop will be renamed, but are they gonna retheme the Hungry Bear, Pooh Corner, etc. to New Orleans-themed shops? What about the Pooh ride?

Nothing has been confirmed, and they are such a mess, they probably don't even know.

I don’t know what will happen to the rest of Critter Country. They haven’t announced anything regarding that. We’ll have to wait and see.

And yes, Disney insinuated that it will be considered a NOS attraction.

If the intention truly is to eradicate any ties to Song of the South, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney got rid of Critter Country entirely as in the 80s when they came up with the land, they explicitly said the name came from the Uncle Remus quote where "The critters were closer to the folks and the folks closer to the critters."

Remus says the quote shortly before launching into Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah:

Basically, the entire namesake of the land comes from SOTS.

The only film other that would kind of work is Robin Hood but it has a fair level of unfamiliarity with modern audiences.

Robin Hood wouldn't work due to it taking place in a 1190's England. If established IP must be placed, the best to fit thematically and geographically would be the Rescuers. More talking inhabitants that narratively takes place in a Louisiana bayou.

While we're at it, relocate Pooh to Fantasyland were he truly belongs (settle for a copy of Hunny Hunt) and dedicate an England sub section that could also feature Robin Hood and Mary Poppins.

Yeah I agree. The only reason why I think you could pigeonhole in Robin Hood is 1) the overarching critter theme includes English-inspired Pooh and 2) I could easily see the AS AAs being repurposed for Robin Hood.

I agree with everyone else that the European fairy tales should ideally stay in Fantasyland but they kinda already through that bear out with the bath water when they evicted Big Al for Pooh.

Catfish Bend, which is referenced in the attraction, because many of the character designs of American Sings came from the unused film (and Chanticleer) , is supposed to take place in that same Universe as the first Rescuers movie (or at the very least, a near identical one).

I really like the idea of a Rescuers version of Splash Mountain. I think it would work best for Tokyo, where Critter Country is next to Fantasyland and Bernard and Bianca are seen more often in the parks.
