If that statement is coming from management, maybe, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to work for WDI also actively doesn't want to make worthwhile attractions. It's more like, "Our corporate mandates and strapped budgets won't allow us to".
I see it more as "We could match the quality of Splash, but everything we've overlayed does fine and besides, there's even more money to throw stuff places if we do it quickly and cheaply"

That's the vibe I get from the whole remodel

My friend is planning on heading to DL in Feb. Think it's safe to tell them they can get one last ride on Classic Splash?

Oh, jeez... I'm fully convinced by now that Splash Mountain's matienence crew was among the layoffs. Maybe they're intentionally letting things on the ride break down to "justify" the retheme.
Water causes enough issues that it's unlikely they would need to intentionally neglect it to push it in that direction.

Both US Splash Mountains have had people complaining about maintenance for a decade. As much as I believe this change to have been planned before last summer, I do not believe they were playing the long game for THAT long.

I just bought a Song of the South DVD on Amazon for $20. Lots of folks had questions as to whether it's legit or not. With copyright ending in 2021, folks guessed that Disney let Brian's Retro Collection sell it so they could make a few bucks without blowback.

There's a color corrected remaster floating around the internet that should have higher quality picture/sound then the DVD. I believe it was scanned from a 35mm print from the '80s theatrical run.

I had a bootleg DVD as a kid which I ordered online. It had Warner Bros. "Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarves" as a hidden easter egg and after a year or two the image on the DVD turned black like it had been infected with some kind of dirty parasite.

Now THAT'S something animated with racist stereotypes.
True. I think it’s worth noting though that it was made in collaboration with a lot of the big black New York jazz artists of the day. Racial sensitivities aside it is still an amazing cartoon, one of my favorites ever. The way they blend music and animation in that one is really unparalleled.

That's some urban legend type stuff right there. "And then the suuuuper haunted Song of the South DVD turned black and then Br'er Fox left the screen and married my dad'
