We’re broken people that fall short of what our creator intended in many ways. Racism and all it brings are part of a human nature that is based on pride not humility. I’m thankful 99% of us are engaging thoughtfully and respectfully. That’s how we will all learn from each other.

I think this really captures the absurdity of cancel culture.
In fairness, I've heard that this story is being wildly misreported. Supposedly the entire line of Lego Star Wars toys (including Slave I) are being re-named due to some licensing dispute with another toy company that already held specific licensing rights.

I feel like at best, the overlay will be another Mission: Breakout, which means it would be vastly better than anyone could realistically have hoped for, but still inferior to what it replaced. Modern Disney isn't capable of producing something that even comes close to Splash Mountain anymore, but there is a chance they could still make something fun. At worst, this overlay might be another Web Slingers in terms of quality, and be a completely soulless and corporate product devoid of any charm.

The Briar Patch has reopened at Disneyland. None of the Brer character decorations removed, but as expected not selling any Splash Mountain merchandise (which has been the case for years at this point).
I expect any Splash merch we see after this will be Time to Be Moving Along or something along those lines

No, it really doesn't. There is reportedly a licensing issue with Hasbro, and the names of all Mando ships are being changed on the LEGO line. The name remains the same in the Databank and is used in The Mandalorian, because nothing was canceled and the ship is still called Slave 1, just not on the LEGO sets.

Are you saying I cannot trust mainstream media to report the truth?

That would be a pretty interesting interpretation, considering even the article you shared doesn't say that the name was changed because of any kind of outrage and acknowledges within the first paragraph that the name was only changed for the Lego sets.

The issue has not been officially acknowledged or commented on by Disney or LEGO, as the article also states, so no reason for the change was reported.

Modern Disney is absolutely capable of producing something like Splash, they just choose not to.

Per the databank, still Slave I as you stated above.
