This is terrible! (Thread orginally posted 9/11/2001)

I still remember this thread being started, like it was yesterday.

This forum and it's members were just amazing on that day. It was the only place I could get any real information, and also the only place I wanted to be.

I can remember the feeling of being completely incapable of doing anything, and the terrible feeling of shock and horror for everyone caught up in this.

I just wanted to say that my thoughts are with everyone on this 5th anniversary of a truly, truly sad day.

It's hard to believe it was 5 years ago.

The images and emotions are as strong today as they were then.

Hug your loved ones today and say a prayer for those who cannot.

Thanks for bringing this thread back - I wasn't a member back then, but every time I read this I feel like I was living it with you. Such a horrible day!

Thanks for re-posting that banner, Steve. I remember it. Very well done.

We cannot forget. Here is another picture that I happened to have from that year, that I use as my wallpaper sometimes around this time. My co-worker had just visited New York City during the summer of 2001, and had happened to take this picture... (and gave us permission to share).

Sometimes it does seem like yesterday, not 5 years ago yesterday. I can still remember watching it all live, since I was home from work getting some plumbing work done. I remember nearly every channel on cable (including MTV and ESPN) canning their regular programming and showing news from their sister networks. Disney and Nickelodeon were about the only channels not showing 24 hour news.

And the internet news sites were around then, but new. And many of them were too busy to log into (like someone said above, making this one of the places to find news). I actually came to find WDW Magic in part because of September 11, 2001, as I was looking for stories and pictures on WDW's response to the attacks and the flights being stopped.

Thanks again for this thread, and keeping it alive from year to year. An amazing read. And a great, world-wide community!

Paul

Wow, I can't believe it has been 6 years already. I remember where I was on that day. I was in 10th grade, and I was in free period. Everyone in the library had their computers turned to news stations. Throughout the school tvs were turned to stations showing what was going on. I later found out that one of my dad's best friends had been lost in one of the towers. He left behind a wife and 3 kids (I took care of his 2 little girls once in awhile).:(
